Watch live as the Iowa Supreme Court hears oral arguments in case 18-1276, the League of United Latin American Citizens of Iowa and Taylor Blair, Appellees V. Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate, Appellant.

An Iowa judge issued a temporary injunction barring the state from implementing some provisions of Iowa’s new voter ID law.

The ruling, for now, restores the absentee early voting period from 29 days to 40 days and blocks certain ID requirements of the law, passed by the GOP-led Legislature and signed into law by former Gov. Terry Branstad in May 2017.

Polk County District Judge Karen Romano ruled that elements of the state’s new system requiring state-issued voter identification numbers on absentee ballots could harm the rights of voters to participate in elections, “in contravention” of Iowa’s Constitution.

The live oral arguments are scheduled to start around 9:30 a.m. today, following a traffic camera case.

The Court will strike down the voter ID law and the legislature will cut judiciary budget next year. It's all very predictable.

That's very mature of the Iowa legislature.

I really don’t understand the opposition to this unless you really think there are people out there that are incapable of getting an ID. Other than that it can only be the “inconvenience” of having to take your wallet out and showing someone.
