Iowa to dramatically cut back on restaurant inspections. Eateries will be inspected every five years under new rule

Just fyi, HyVee hires an outside company to do inspections every month for the entire store including all food service and fresh departments. People get written up for repeated mistakes that show up on the report.

Edit to add that the monthly inspections are MUCH more detailed and rigid than the actual government inspections.

HyVee is not a company you need to worry about not being food safe.
If you really believe this, then you’ve never been in the deli at the Humboldt Hy-Vee. It’s been disgusting for a number of years.

It depends on the manager. Some stores are amazing others not so much. Same with Kroger here.

Mexican Restaurants are already disgusting! Dogs and cats better look out! 5 years for the Chinese to pack their freezers.

This is a terrible IDEA

Good to know since they sell food!

What I said is Reynolds caters to those that financially support her.

Nothing in your little rant contradicts that. Hy Vee restaurants aren't the issue here. But some of the businesses that buy from them are going to be less regulated...which is good for HyVee.

You see the connection? Or will you choose to continue to make excuses?

You do know it's primarily a county function, right?
Carrying out the physical inspections is largely coordinated by county boards of health, but they answer to the edicts from Des Moines. They have the option to go above the state minimum, but the reality is that most counties barely have the resources to do the minimum, which is part of the reason for this "relaxation" in oversight.

Which, again, goes back to our budget surplus. $2 billion yet we somehow can't afford safe food to eat.

Public health grads cost a lot and get paid by the government. This is not a thing most votings Iowans seem to tolerate, no matter how sh!tty our water gets or how much salmonella and nirovirus we eat.

That may be true. I never worked in Humboldt. I was a kitchen manager for 5 years in a HyVee and I can assure you, my kitchen was inspected every month.

Rant? Lol I think you need to get back on your meds or something. God what a douchebag post.

Then you don't understand what has happened to this State in the last decade.

You are forgiven.

They are also combining the Iowa Department of Public Health, and the Iowa Department of Human Services into a new 'Health and Human Services' Department. Which will leave each department worse off overall, they'll cut more money and make it harder for people to access services. They put that all together during Covid, and brought up someone from Texas to realign things, who had done it before down there.

Why not just kill public health altogether? Kill public education? Kill any public service? The insistence on drowning anything that makes Iowa safer and a better place to lives stuns me.

The elimination of taxing retirement withdrawals comes with collateral damage.

We're seeing it right before our eyes.

Did the low intelligence people on this forum and the State, in general, not think that something like this was going to be the end result?

So, was dining at a certain BBQ in Des Moines last weekend and a mouse ran out from under one of the game machines.

Does reducing the inspections help that situation?

I'll hang up and listen.

I support ending the state income tax.
Why? Iowa is not a tourist state. We don't have people coming here to spend their money. In fact even we Iowans leave when we want something to do. You know how many people that live here go to Chicago when they want real entertainment?

Further, what happens when recessions hit? The state goes under, too?

All these relaxing of regulations and holding corporations accountable are for one reason, and one reason only...political donations.

The Republican Party is the party of less regulation. If you prefer that, you know who to vote for. If you don't prefer that, you know who to vote for.

I don't need inspections of restaurants or motels, no matter how frequent, to know that people aren't following the rules of cleanliness.

You just need to accept the fact that cockroaches are running around and that you're likely sleeping on the same bedsheets as the greasy POS the night before. That or don't eat out or stay at motels.

Even 2 inspections a year will not change that.

Just accept that we should eat cockroaches? How much of a food cuck are you?
