Iowa to the pinstripe bowl

I'm sure the team will be heart broken getting a free trip to New York. Just crushed.

Completely devastated. I'm sure the bowl organizers will make them suffer through the Statue of Liberty, 9/11 Memorial, Times Square, blah, blah. Geez, they may even have to go to a Broadway Show or eat in some fancy restaurant (I've heard NYC has those, but I can't prove it). Christmas in NYC is legendary for how bad it sucks - it sucks so bad that they have to charge a premium on hotel rooms to get people to go there. (Wait, was that backwards? Never mind .....)

I know somebody who said he gave up on caring about the football team so he could hear up for basketball season.

Wonder how he's enjoying his last few weeks of Fall, as a Hawk fan..........

Eh I was in that camp hoping for better from the basketball team. I was meaning Dolph probably wants nothing to do with basketball at the moment.

From a TV perspective it’s on at a reasonable hour. You could watch the game over dinner. It won’t keep you up all night like a west coast game. Only game on at that time.

That’s about it.

Broadway shows are awesome, expensive, and typically sold out well ahead of time. I'd be pumped to see a show on broadway for free, it's a cool experience.

I'm so embarrassed by these what we call Iowa fans ....absolutely pathetic! Yeah it's been a up and down year ....but ya know what were are going to a bowl game .....there are a lot of teams that would love to be going to a bowl game! Cry.....cry....cry...I'm just happy we get to play another game ...it's awesome! Some people are just never happy!!

Bad weather, expensive airfare and hotel rooms. If you go you will have to survive on hotdogs and pizza slices the only affordable food in nyc.

We went in 2012. It was 50° all three days we were there. It was on New Year's Eve. Stayed in midtown Manhattan($565 a night!), walking distance to Times Square, Central Park(said "good morning" to Yoko Ono), St. Patrick's.

Times Square was being prepped for the big shows the next night. Heard 8 different languages. The center of the universe that time of the year.

Took the subway to Yankee Stadium. Had time to see the Yankees museum and the memorials in right field. Serious baseball history.

Subway back to midtown, dinner and off to New Year's Eve at Times Square. At 8pm there was about a million people between us on 8th Avenue and Times Square.

If you have never been to NYC, this is the time to do it.

I am talking about the fans. I'll start a post that we should dome kinnick so we don't have to sit outside in November. Watch the response. You'd think I'd shot Hayden. But playing a bowl game in NYC (where it might not be snowy and cold. Been to plenty of New Years parties in the 40s) is OMG, this is terrible. Instead of sitting in maybe 50 degree weather in Nashville or Santa Clara? Comeon' you guys are just whining to whine.
Thats hardly anything new is it?

I don't understand all those going "meh" "this sucks" "not going to waste money"

Would you have been excited about a match up in Santa Clara against Arizona (or whomever)
or Nashville against Kentucky?

How are those significantly better?

Fly to NY and all that goes along with traveling/staying in the city. Watching Iowa/BC in what most likely will be below freezing temps.......

Or

An 8 hr drive to Nashville, a destination I’ve always wanted to see, to hang out and party with thousands of other Hawk fans. Watch a meaningless game in decent 50-60 degree football weather.

Not much of a debate for me personally. NYC would be cool during the Christmas/NYE break, I’d rather go somewhere south for a bowl.

The game starts at like 4:15. How old do you have to be to eat dinner that early? A reasonable hour, lol. Hopefully the game will be out of hand by the time Matlock and Murder She Wrote start.

Pretty much down to, If they want a better bowl, they have to perform better. Barta may have some influence as some suggest, but why would he want to move us from mediocracy? Hell, that is where we have been the last 20 years.

A lot of bowl games have become a joke. 129 Division I football teams and 80 of them play in a bowl game. 14 of the participants this year have 6-6 records and in the past they've had to invite teams with losing records because there weren't enough teams with 6 wins to fill all of the slots. I guess I just remember when having a .500 or worse record didn't earn you a trip to a bowl game.

New York City doesn't interest me much but I am excited for the matchup. Boston College was looking very good toward the end of the year and I think it will be a good game.

BC apparently has a defense, so that doesn't sound like fun for the offensively challenged Hawkeyes and their fans.

I would have traveled to SD, Nashville, or even Santa Clara. NYC in December, no thanks. I hope the boys use this slight, and the disrespect of the media in the CFP debate as motivation to put in the work necessary to absolutely embarrass and humiliate BC. Regardless, I will enjoy this one from the Living Room. Go Hawks, Beat BC!

I think you are crazy overestimating Nashville there. Boss. Sure it's an 8 hour drive. Not sure how that's better than a two hour flight. But, OK. And there will be thousands of Hawk fans in NYC to party with, hell thousands already live there. So plenty of people to party with. Not sure how temps in the low 50s are so much better than snow (and there is not guarentee it could snow. It could be 50 in NYC) is so much better to watch a football game.
