I'm out of state for work . . . missed both Heller's pre-game interview and missed the first inning of tonight's game.

For those who may be interested:

Iowa started the day at #48 RPI. Dropped to #49 by game time - Western Michigan's loss (-7.8) and KSU's win (+3) earlier today impacted Iowa's total RPI points before tonight's first pitch.
At #49, Iowa is 3 RPI points behind #48 Florida Gulf Coast and 8 RPI points ahead of #50 Duke.
RPI metrics for game: An Iowa win would earn 27 RPI points (let's hear it for road games!) and an Iowa loss would result in a loss of 82 RPI points.
In other action, Texas Tech is holding onto a slim lead over New Mexico in B7 with the Lobos threatening (TT win would add 8.5 points); Indiana State is up 6-1 in B6 over Purdue (ISU win would add 5.7 points).

Iowa up 2-0 in T3 on the back of a Sam Hojnar two-out 2 run HR in B2. Anthony with 2 scoreless innings. Of Iowa's 8 outs thus far, 7 have been strike outs. Yikes.

Batter started his swing and ball hitting the hand is not a hbp. Hand is part of the bat on a swing.

In B3, a leadoff line drive to RCF and a real hustle
Batter started his swing and ball hitting the hand is not a hbp. Hand is part of the bat on a swing.
Heller certainly isn't happy with the call.

Obermueller in to see if he can stomp out the 1 out - runners on corners - thread.

EDIT: Batter pitch count violation benefits Iowa. Obermueller with a swinging K. One more out to end threat.

EDIT 2: Very nice play by Seeger on a grounder up the middle and a pitch to Hojnar at 2nd ends the rally. Seeger's momentum actually took him past the base and he had to toss the ball back-hand to Hojnar. Put a star in the play book.

EDIT 3: ISU's announcing team is . . . ummm . . . not particularly strong.

Two out single by Tello.
Wild pitch advances Tello.
Peterson doubles in Tello on a one bouncer off the wall.

I was being kind to ISU's announcers in the post above. They suggested that the reason Tello scored was because the LFer had difficulty picking up the ball after it hit the wall. Ummm . . . pretty sure that Tello was running on any batted ball with 2 outs. He would have scored easily if the ball was fielded cleanly and Roberto Clemente was playing LF for ISU.

To B4 . . . Iowa up 3-0.

Iowa really struggling with the bats. This is a must win game. Heller going through his pitchers.
