Really puzzling where offense is for some of our people. All that said. ISU is wrestling a very solid dual here. They are a much better team than I believed them to be
Cyclones have been more aggressive in general than the Hawks. That’s disappointing for Hawk fans.
Warner vs Bastida. Revenge match for Warner.
1st: 1:30 in And no action. Bastida with a nice shot and gets the two, Warner caught flat footed.quick escape Warner. 2-1 Bastida 1 min left. Bastida with double unders and gets the two right at the end of the 1st. This will be challenged by isu. Maybe not. 4-1 Bastida end of 1z
2nd: Bastida picks neutral to start the 2nd. Getting a little chippy here. Possible head gear pull by Bastida. 1 min left. Bastida shoots again but it’s oob. 30 seconds left. Warner on on a nice hi c. But apparently it was oob when the action ended. Warner wanted the challenge, but Tom waived it off.
3rd: Warner on bottom. And out in 15 seconds. 4-2 bastida. Snap to ankle pick for Warner but Bastida kicks out of it. 1 min left. Challenge brick thrown by Brands for a headgear pull. Looks pretty obvious. 4-3 Warner after the challenge. Warner looks amped up. 55 seconds left. Warner on a single off the whistle. He’s in deep, Warner has the leg elevated, but Great defense by Bastida, fights off the shot and Bastida wins 4-3. Words and a kiss by Bastida after the match. Damn. Whew intense.

Outside of Spencer's first period and a surprising amount of aggression from brands, this has been some passive wrestling from the Hawks
Cyclones look way more polished than the Hawks do. Give them our level of recruits and this woulda been lopsided.
Heavy and we’re tied 15-15
Cass vs Schuyler. Last year Cass stalled him out.
1st: First td goes to goes to Big Cass about 50 seconds in. stall call on isu’s heavy. Cass over a minute of RT. Cass has Schuyler’s arm pinned and Schuyler is flat. Dominating ride for Cass. Over 2 mins of RT. 2-0 Cass end of 1.
2nd: Stoppage. Blood I’d guess? Yep. From a Cass cross face. schuyler’s bleeding from the nose. Case stars down. Out real quick. 3-0 big Tony. The annoying whew”s are starting. Hate that. Oh well. 1 minute in Cass gets behind and brings him down for two more. Cass back on top. Forward pressure. 3 mins of riding time, Cass called for stalling using a double thigh pry. I like the call. End of 3 5-0 Cass with 3 mins of riding time.
3rd. Schuyler chooses neutral. No surprise. Cass is caught in a cradle here, two pt takedown for Schuyler. Nerve racking . 6-2 after Cass gets cut from the bottom. 45 seconds left. Hand fighting and Cass goes for a late double but gets shoved away. Re attack by Cass gets the last sec td. 9-2 big Cass.
18-15 Hawks win.

That was one of the best post match interviews I’ve heard from Tom. He acknowledged the importance of winning the dual despite lots of work to do.
Yes, normally Tom downplays the good and focuses on the negative without celebrating the victory. It was nice to hear him savor the W for a change.
I told you this was gonna be close. Thank God for Spencer and Real.
Iowa State has some great, athletic, explosive wrestlers in the lineup. Best team they've put out there since Dresser started. Give them credit. The matches we lost we deserved to lose.
Great to see Spencer--he clearly needed this tune-up badly. Schriever needs more time with DeSanto. Real is the Real Deal; didn't tire like I expected. Murin is Murin--gonna have to fight to AA, as usual. Cobe has made our "weight weak" fun to watch. Kennedy didn't wrestle badly--Carr is just amazing. Nelson looked very good. Assad is a sightly better version of Assad, but still Assad. Warner is still Warner. Gotta finish your damn shots. Cass looked good except for the brain fart.
