Iowa -12

LAST 10 GAMES: Golden Gophers: 1-9, averaging 58.3 points, 29.5 rebounds, 12.6 assists, 4.9 steals and 3.4 blocks per game while shooting 40.1% from the field. Their opponents have averaged 72.3 points per game.

Hawkeyes: 7-3, averaging 81.2 points, 30.0 rebounds, 15.9 assists, 6.6 steals and 3.9 blocks per game while shooting 47.5% from the field. Their opponents have averaged 77.9 points.

Hawks need to come out fast and not let the undermanned gophers hang around. I like Iowa 83-70 today.

Minnesota is below Hawks in the standings - I guess that means it will be extra tough to beat them.

Must win.

People talk about must win games too often. This and Nebraska are must win games for Iowa to stay on track for a middle seed. Lose one of these and it's probably a much lower seed. Lose both and it's back on the bubble.

So you’re saying if the Hawks finish out 5–2, and the losses are to Min and Neb, they are on the bubble? Does that mean they would have to at least get to the BTT championship game to get an invite?

We won't need to worry about it. But if Iowa were to slip a bit, it's worth mentioning that bubble teams (by my estimation) went like 5-9 the past 2 days with some of them taking horrendous losses. Iowa's resume is so buoyed by their 7 Q1 wins that I think it would take a total collapse for them to fall out of the bracket. Keep in mind that last season Rutgers had 2 Q4 Ls, a Q3 L and was in the 70s in all metrics (NET, KenPom, Sagarin, etc) and still squeaked in due to their 7-7 Q1 record. The committee values quality wins over everything else, and most bubble teams right now are severely lacking those wins--UNC for example is a team that's in most "Last 4 in" brackets and is 1-8 in Q1.

Gophers men's basketball returns from COVID break vs. Iowa

A five-day COVID-19 pause earlier in the week delayed a game against Illinois until Feb. 20.

Noon Sunday vs. Iowa • Williams Arena • FS1

Gophers update:

*
The Gophers (7-15, 1-11 Big Ten) take a 7-game losing streak into Sunday's matchup with Iowa at Williams Arena.

* Ben Johnson's team returned from a five-day COVID-19 pause on Saturday, which included postponing an earlier game at Illinois until Feb. 20.

* In their last game, the Gophers suffered their second straight 35-point loss against Maryland at home. Their last three losses have been by a combined 90 points, including against Rutgers and Northwestern.

* Leading scorer and rebounder Dawson Garcia (bone bruise) is questionable to play Sunday after missing the last 4 games.

* Minnesota's last win in the series against Iowa was 102-95 in overtime on Christmas Day in 2020.

Iowa update:

* The Hawkeyes (15-9, 7-6) had their three-game winning streak end in Thursday's 87-73 loss at No. 1-ranked Purdue. Junior forward Kris Murray had 24 points in the loss.

* Murray, the twin brother of Sacramento Kings rookie Keegan Murray, ranks second in the Big Ten in scoring (20.7 points per game) and fifth in rebounding (8.2).

* Iowa's 4-game win streak in January was snapped after back-to-back road losses to Ohio State and Michigan State last month.

* The Hawkeyes have won 5 of the last 6 games against the Gophers, including three straight in the series.

Take care of the ball and the Hawks win. Can’t have a bunch of sloppy, unforced turnovers and allow them to hang around.

Anyone trying to pull the game up on the Fox Sports App? Literally is ONLY Super Bowl stuff.

On the Roku and phone.

Nevermind, just came up. Looks like they went nuts with the Fox Sports homepage
