Iowa WBB 2024-2025 Season Thread

This team will finish better than what most people think. They have learned a lot over the last 4 years, will maintain that same level of energy, and play fast. CC's impact on the team will still be there.

Iowa didn't get respect pre-Caitlin, then Iowa struggled until the public, by her celebrity forced the basketball community to give Iowa the respect we deserved. Few players, if any have had this impact to this degree.

I'm excited] to see how Heiden will perform. A strong post will compensate for much, especially for a team restructuring after losing 3 very good starters (one of them a superstar). We are still a talented and deep team playing in a ungodly loaded conference.

The Wisconsin frosh, Guyton, Levin, Olsen, Kennise, McCabe and all the vets make this a group worth anticipating. I can't wait.

Landing Layla Hayes is also exciting. Hopefully Jensen can keep the momentum going and land some frontline players and guards.

What are you talking about?

Iowa got plenty of respect before Caitlin.

Three years running with the Big Ten Player of the Year...before Caitlin

Naismith Player of the Year...couple years before Caitlin.

Lots of respect for a program that was good, but had not crossed that threshold to be where it was considered during the Vivian days.

Yes the last 4 years has pushed Iowa on the edge of being elite...but to say Iowa was not a respected program before is an insult to everyone that played and coached for Iowa before.

Iowa was not considered a top 10 team even with Megan for the most part. Reaching the elite 8 was seen as a major accomplishment. That's a long ways from expected to contend. It's going to be interesting to see if the wbb reverts back to a few super teams

I think the original poster is referring to respect from fans where you’re referring to respect from colleagues/peers of the program around the league. Look no further than our FB coach to illustrate how different they can be. If that is the case then I agree with both points.

Although I think our 2024 class is very good, you just can't replace experience of playing in the BIG, especially on the road. It took a couple years after Megan graduated for the last team to turn the corner. We do have some solid pieces and sell out crowds in Kinnick will help but winning on the road is hard, especially with 5 freshmen. Still enough talent to go dancing.

What the hell does selling out Kinnick have to do with Womens' Basketball and the projection of their season?

The wild card here is that many of the women on this team came in higher rated than most of they players who left except for Clark. But Clark was so competitive and drove the team, who does that now? They could be a better defensive team this year, but can they put the same kind of pressure on the other team offensively? Can they find enough consistency from enough players to win? Can Kylie/syd/taylor spread the floor enough to give lucy space? How much and how well does Hannah play the 4 after spending so much time at the 5? How good are Addie and Ava going to be at the 5? I can see how the pieces could work, but that's a lot of questions and I'm concerned that it will take some time to get the required level of consistency. Basically can't have bad games from more than one spot on any given night.

So did we get all the recruits we need for the next couple of classes to help us win multiple national championships?

Where's that one poster with all the inside connections in Iowa's recruiting circle who tells us who is still interested in Iowa, who isn't interested in Iowa, and why we still won't be getting the caliber of recruits we need to win national championships?......................................find that man and someone punch him in the d*** the next time you see him, for me.

Thanks in advance, fellas! :D

I don't remember Iowa receiving media attention/publicity. It seemed UConn, Tennessee, and other perennial powers got the write-ups and articles. Maybe you had access to media I didn't.

I think the 26 class is going to give some clarity in how the program may trend under Jan.

Well tell shikreto or whoever the f*** since I can't get his name to appear so I can @ him, to make sure we get the recruits we need to win a national championship and stop making sure recruits like Maddyn Greenway don't come to Iowa......

They must’ve canceled their account because they were the original poster of this post and now the name says anon….

Anyone privy to how Guyton’s rehab is going?

It would be great for her to get meaningful minutes behind Olson this year (maybe second half of season) and be ready for next year.

She will be a very valuable piece for us.

Not privy per say, but she has an instagram thread on her recovery, and preseason interviews indicating that she expects to be back and is hoping to find some minutes at some point this year. I don't remember where I got the impression that they were targeting December? Timeline could move though...

I'm curious about the timeline for Syd Affolters return from surgery. I seem to recall they are targeting a November return and only missing a few games. I'm assuming she misses the Va Tech game Nov 10th, maybe back for Drake on Nov 17th??

When is she back participating in practice?

With smaller scholly allotments, WBB can't afford wasted spots.

What is smaller?

They still get more than the men, at the moment. More often than not most good teams historically have not used all the available scholarships since it would be next to impossible to get 15 women real playing time during a season. Even Iowa in recent years might have had all 15 being used, but also had players that would not play at all that year.

And actually… last year only used 14, with another player that was not going to play, so only 13 active.

This year only using 14.

Pretty common to not use them all.
