Iowa WBB 2025 Recruiting Thread

I'm not sure teams can host official visits for an NCAA Tournament game. This might be a workaround where they pay for her travel to and from and she just happens to be in town and available to go.

I would think it would be a huge distraction to go through all an official visit entails while you are in the midst of a tournament setting.

The only way a school can pay for travel is if it's an official visit.
Right, I'm meaning they host the official visit on Sunday, but I'm not sure if they can provide tickets and access for the NCAA Tournament game. So the official takes place on "Sunday" and hey she happens to be in town and can attend the Tournament games if she wants also.

UConn listed but they have not offered McCaughy a scholarship. Hopefully, Iowa can make a solid impression on her visit.
Where did you see UConn hasn’t offered? I did some clicking around the boneyard and Geno reportedly paid her a visit at home in Colfax. Did you read differently?

The #1 prospect in the 2024 class, Sarah Strong, is a PF who just cut her list to 3 with UConn being one of the finalists. Might have something to do with not offering.

Slightly off-topic: Barring an outbound transfer, UConn only has one scholarship for next year. If Strong pics UConn, they could not take Kaitlyn Chen (which already seems weird tbh since they have 3 PGs).

Shows list of UConn targets for 2025 and 2026; McGaughy shown as having been offered.
Page down to post #55.

Love how they put a picture of Skinner's Iowa visit in her Gatorade player of the year announcement though they did remove the name on the jersey. Still a Hawkeye on the ball though...Coincidence? 😂🤞
If Iowa could get Skinner and McGaughy to go with Deal and Houston, to go along with the 24 class, look out

I’m sure we all read the epic Caitlin Clark tome on ESPN. My favorite tidbit was the writer meeting with Jan in September in LA while she was on a layover between Alaska and CR….

I have more confidence in Layla Hays signing with Iowa than any other recruit in the '25 class. But if she does; it leaves a huge door open for a great PG, and/or a talented wing. Can you imagine a signing class of Deal, Hayes, Houston, Speiser, and Skinner?
I also think Hays is the most likely to become a hawk of the 4 top 2025 recruits. I think Skinner will hold the mantle of least likely unless she publicly narrows it down or otherwise does something to demonstrate her continued interest. We should assume she has offers from basically every school in the country. Iowa is the only visit she has posted on social so we should also assume it’s the first of many.

you hearing stuff on Skinner or just speculating?

100% based on vibes. There's just not a lot to work with now with regard to her. Compare her to Addie Deal, whose recruiting journey was always very much on a trajectory to land at Iowa. She came 3 times. She agreed to do a story with Kyle after the first visit. She was always liking Iowa content on social media -- even though she didn't post about every single step of her recruiting journey the way some kids do (she was actually fairly private).

In contrast, Emilee has only visited once. She did not do a Q&A with Kyle (I'm sure he asked, he asks everyone). She is ranked higher than Deal so we can assume demand for her is even higher. She's even less active than Deal on social so we can't see if she's engaging with Iowa content (or other teams' content). I just feel like we should manage expectations. We haven't been given much of a reason to assume she is leaning toward Iowa at all, is all I'm saying. If she comes again, or Bluder heads to Utah, or she releases a Top 5, I may "calculate" differently....

Meanwhile look at Hays. She agreed to a Q&A with Kyle. She has engaged positively with multiple Iowa posts on social (even some saying she should become a Hawk). As I mentioned earlier, her mom is clearly a huge Iowa fan. She likes basically every Iowa WBB post -- the only other program she engages with is EWU, where her other daughter plays. That's much more in line with Deal's trajectory than Skinner's.

This is all vibes of course. Nothing concrete whatsoever. It's just my opinion that of the 4 big 2025 targets, the order of likelihood that we sign them is:
  1. Hays
  2. Speiser
  3. McGaughy
  4. Skinner
Although I do think it's fair to say that now that we have Mallegni, Houston and Deal signed, we really don't need Speiser the way we need the rest. They are all athletic wings that can play the 2 / 3 and maybe 4 -- just like Speiser. I wonder if she realizes that...hopefully that's not a deterrent. She'd probably start over Mallegni and Houston (and it's fair to point out that Houston's knee issues may be come persistent).

This article has some of Skinner's offers listed: https://www.maxpreps.com/news/awswN... some media outlets,USC and Utah among others.

The one good thing for Iowa in her recruitment is that unless she picks Utah, basically every other elite program she could go to is very far from her home. I'm not sure distance matters as much where every option is likely a plane ride away.

And if they don't land Speiser and Skinner there's Greenway, Lewis, and Bjorn in 2026.
