Hawk Buck's ties are to AIA, not sure where he got the Greenway news. Doubt he has much on Skinner but he may. She has been very guarded about her recruitment. I thought for sure at least one other highly ranked recruit would want to play with Deal and Houston, maybe not.

If for some reason a class doesn't land targets, I'd argue it's in Iowa's best interest currently to keep those roster spots for transfers. Probably in best interest to save spots regardless!

The game has changed.
Agreed. Will Greenway get to Duke and see the crowds aren't as big as she saw at Iowa, and people don't value women's BB like she saw at Iowa, and the Duke team isn't winning and start looking for somewhere else to land? Maybe not, but maybe there is another Lucy out there.

Exactly. Like everyone else, disappointed we haven't received more commitments. But with the portal now there are a lot of quality players who have proven what they can do.

It's truly crazy that our remaining 3 targets are from Florida, Utah and Alaska. Shows how different things are from just a couple years ago. We do need to be patient. But I suspect everyone will be decided in the next 8 weeks or so.

It's also easy to forget we only need a couple more pieces to get where we want to be. We already have 2 great recruits for 2025 on top of a solid 2024 class. We have a very good roster among those 7 players.

ETA: Raina is in Los Angeles.

Deal at #9💥✨
... and still a chance with Skinner #10 🤞

Iowa is not going away.

Civil and Deal Turn Heads

There are always prospects during the rankings process who are valued more by one outlet than they might be by others. For the 247Sports rankings release, that's the case for Jaida Civil (No. 13) and Addie Deal (No. 9).

. . .
On the other coast, Deal got it rolling during the summer. She did whatever is needed on the perimeter for Cal Stars. Deal, who has already committed to Iowa, rebounds the basketball like a big and defends well. She showed off these skills this summer while averaging close to 20 points per game and shooting 36% from the three-point line.

Funny but sad. I live in Ohio and what has happened in Springfield is sad. Town of 60,000 that has been inundated with 40,000 Haitians. Have read in papers about concerns for pets in the community. FWIW, the local goose populations in local parks have been eliminated. We should bring some up to our golf course. They always shit on the short grass. Makes putting interesting.
This is an idiotic post on so many levels.

Skinner's Top 5 is interesting in that none of the schools she unofficially visited--at least publicly--made her Top 5. Thus far, Iowa and UCLA are the only schools of the 5 that she's publicly visited. Some additional thoughts.

Iowa- There are pretty clear signs Iowa is still very much in the running. I still think Iowa has a big advantage in that it can sell turning the keys over to Skinner at PG as a freshman.

UCLA- They are a big theat. Skinner seems to get along well with Sienna Betts, who is already committed. Skinner would overlap for a year with Kiki Rice, though, so I'm not sure she would start right away. It's also worth watching Jazzy Davidson's recruitment, as UCLA seems to be one of the favorites. Davidson is listed as a guard/wing, but is on-ball a lot. If they both went to UCLA, Skinner wouldn't have full control of the offense like she would at Iowa.

Notre Dame- Skinner would overlap for two years with Hannah Hidalgo. If Skinner wants to run point early in her career, ND isn't the place to do it. This is anecdotal, but I check an ND board from time to time. They had info on Clark's verbal to ND when it happened. No one there thought ND was in the running for Skinner until she announced her top 5. They thought it was between Iowa and UCLA.

Duke- Skinner would overlap for a year with their current starting PG Taina Mair. Not sure that's a huge deal, but Skinner's path to being a starting PG at Duke isn't as clear as it is at Iowa. It's interesting that Skinner took an unofficial visit to UNC but not Duke (at least not publicly). If Skinner did end up at Duke that could impact Greenway's recruitment.

TCU- They've been trendy since Mark Campbell got there and had some portal wins (Sedona Prince, Hailey Van Lith). But they were underwhelming last year, and haven't had the same success in HS recruiting yet.

Some very good points, Another factor in my view that should be favorable towards Iowa is style of play, It sounds like she wants a style that is uptempo and really pushes the ball, None of the teams listed compete with Iowa in that area IMO.

Some intangibles which may or may not mean much to Skinner: at UCLA she is going to spend a lot of time on an airplane- in LA, UCLA women’s bb is not a “big thing” but at Iowa she will feel enjoy a much greater level of attention in the immediate footprint of the conference- historically, player development at Iowa has been very high compared to others- and finally, playing with Deal and Hieden, in particular, could be an excellent opportunity to win and yet not be overshadowed. Each of these would be significant to me!

Great post.
Very good points.

Those points are all valid. I've lived in SoCal and been on campus in Westwood...it is a glamor school and location. Academics and campus are top notch as well. Emilee doesn't seem to be too caught up in social media/pretty quiet with her recruiting, so these pluses may not be that important to her. Proximity favors the Bruins as well; they'll be tough to beat out.

While obviously L.A. is a helluva lot closer to Millville Utah than Iowa City, It is still an 11/12 hour drive one way. So I don’t know how realistic of a commute that is if one of her concerns is family being able to attend games. It would be roughly the same as living in Iowa City and having to go to Penn State to watch the games. From that perspective I don’t know if proximity will be a huge factor.

Completely agree. My comment is based on air travel considerations: there are dozens of non-stop flights daily between LA and Salt Lake vs none between CR and SLC. On the good side, I believe I've seen her quoted as saying location wouldn't be a big factor.

Really comes down to jazzy Davidson ….but Iowa is a huge fan of pace and having athletes that can run so we can hold a few guards but agreed ucla is what we are up against wonder we’re Jan is today

I'm recalling Olsen's experience coming to Iowa and realizing quickly that the players in IWBB are pretty much the show-->celebrities. I'm sure the recruits notice this to some degree. I think Ray-gun even had t-shirts with Deal's name on them after committing.

I'm assuming the fan support is going to continue even without CC. Big Ten has given Iowa a lot of Sunday games--> exposure in prime TV slots.

I'd think these things are attractive to elite players like Skinner. If Jensen delivers a team, and if Olsen ends up a Big Ten bucket, I like the odds.

Deal with Iowa already own that shirt #7

The staff feels good about their chances with Skinner. UCLA is the legit threat here from my intel, but I don't sense my sources have anything concrete on Skinner's final selection. TCU has $$$ to offer and lots of it. They will show up in a lot of recruits final lists. But, to summarize, from recent conversations, the staff feels good about landing a 2025.

Hawkbuck, heard anything recently on Layla Hays? She seems mostly off the radar as of late.

I have not heard her name come up for a while now. It appears the staff is paying special attention this week to some of the younger prospects from Minnesota. This is the time of year when coaches show up at "open gyms" and volleyball games to watch recruits. It's all about being seen and making an appearance to re-affirm their interest in a kid.
