Iowa WBB Class of 2026 Recruiting Thread

Yikes. Probably (hopefully) doesn’t mean anything. Still, not what I wanted to see.

Do you know if Kussow has an Iowa offer? Seems to me very similar to Greenway maybe a first come first served situation.

I know very little about Kussow. All I know is she visited Kinnick for a game a couple falls ago, Kyle has identified her as a “target” and AMAYS reported that someone with proven intel on another message board (Minnesota's) said Iowa is the “favorite” to get her. I’d be shocked if she didn’t have an offer considering her profile and that of other comparable guards that Iowa has offered.

Yikes- yeah. Doesn’t look good for Jenica 😕 Seems like she is not into Iowa by that video lol.

Bummer that she said that on that platform— they reach a lot of young hoopers.

A gopherhole poster (not the one who has been knowledgeable about Minnesota HS/AAU prospects) posted today that he/she was "hearing Michigan" for Kussow. That would suck, if true.

I can't shake the feeling that we're in for a lot of "that sucks" kind of news in the coming months...

Transfers are a thing, and sounds like Jensen is on top of that newer dynamic. Recruit an athlete well, and odds are in your favor to find them again down the road. Certainly, a good showing from the "new" team (and Olsen in particular) will have a big impact on '26 and '27 classes. We'll see.

Feels like Iowa's recruiting really failing to capitalize on CC
The 2025 class had a Top 15 and Top 40 player before they both got hurt in their HS season. None of Iowa's top 2026 targets have committed yet.

Deal is a significant sign that Iowa's recruiting has improved. Iowa getting visits from top players from different time zones is another sign. Let's see how the rest of 2025 and 2026 shake out before coming to any conclusions.

She's got a ways to go to be in that post.

I say if someone comes along very similar to Greenway pick whoever wants to be a hawk first. They have given MG plenty of time.
Greenway is on track to become one of the greatest scorers in high school history. She is a great floor leader and the daughter of a Hawkeye legend. Give her as much time as she needs.

Only 1 player in ESPN's Top 60 for 2026 has committed so far. Skinner's decision could impact Greenway, but so could any number of things. Basically, it's still really early in the process for her class.

New coach obviously…but going to guess that it will not be that much different,

Lisa would have put three point guards starting with out a problem if they created the best team.

Iowa gets Skinner and Greenway…they both prove they belong starting…they both starting.

I have seen numerous pictures of her in Texas orange at football games and basketball games. She has visited numerous ACC schools but sure looks like she is tight with Texas.

Okay, I respect your opinion, it makes sense. I guess I feel the same way about this particular situation that I feel about Greenway tho... I'm just not convinced that just because someone goes to games or wears gear from a (popular) local/family team, they're bound to go to that program. I was born in Austin/have lots of family there, UT is the epicenter of everything. Just like Iowa -- you grow up in the area, you're bound to accumulate gear / go to games / cheer for the team. She just visited Stanford BTW.

I know she is 2025 but I'm posting here because Hawkbuck accurately predicted this a couple months ago (and tbh I dont really consider her an Iowa target). Anyway, that makes the 11th correct prediction from Hawkbuck...more like 13th actually since he had 3 about Clark. So that's 13 out of 13 predictions -- for a 100% accuracy rate, not a single inaccurate prediction....

"Bjorn seems to be a huge fan of Texas".........follow the crumb(p)s

...and I would guess that Bjorn headed to Texas will be 14/14, as this was in response to a comment I made about Bjorn seeming very warm to Texas. I took his cryptic comment to mean Bjorn would be following Crump to Texas and it seems to be panning out. Full predictions below for reference.

FYI, a review of Hawkbuck's past intel includes the following accurate predictions:

1) Kylie Feuerbach was transfering to Iowa
2) Callie Levin would commit to Iowa
3) Journey Houston would commit to Iowa
4) Sahara Williams was likely to commit to Oklahoma
5) Britt Prince was likely to commit to UNL
6) Megan Meyer would transfer out
7) McCabe would commit to Iowa
8) Clark was going to commit to Notre Dame, then was decommitting and would commit to Iowa
9) Grace Berg would commit to Drake
10) Shateah Wettering would commit to Iowa

Vic is a great defensive coach (not my favorite offensive coach), and a great recruiter. With the UT-platform, sky is the limit for Vic.
Vic has also been to the NC game twice.

And yeah, Austin is Austin. The ideal college town IMO. I’ve lived both there and Iowa City.

Still no Iowa offer apparently….
It is mystifying to me. Koupal was invited to visit IC for the season finale with all the top ‘25 recruits. She is a Top20 player IMO.

As I mentioned before, Nebraska and Minnesota offered early and ex-USD (now MN) coach Dawn Plitzuweit has been in touch since middle school. USD blood runs through the family. My guess is she commits to Nebraska (Amy Williams is ex-USD also) or Minnesota but who knows? She has a lot of options.

She is also a top 20 player according to ESPN. IDGI either.

I guess I can understand a person growing up with Minnesota winters wanting to go somewhere a little warmer…😕

I can think of 3 reasons, but I don't really love any of them as a good explanation.

1) The coaches are much lower on Koupal than ESPN and others. That's plausible I suppose, but she has a really good offer list already, and inviting her to the Ohio State game made it seem like she was a priority.

2) Something during or after the Ohio State visit made the coaches think she wasn't a good fit or wasn't truly interested. Again this is plausible, but the visit seems like a sign of mutual interest. One "fit" issue that seems at least possible is a disagreement over ideal position. If Koupal wants to play as a 3 or 4, but the coaches see her ideally as a 5 (as an example) maybe that made them hesitant to offer. Position disagreements happen more in football than basketball, but Koupal is unique in that she's the height of a 5, but with some skills of a 3/4.

3) The coaches think Bjorn and Koupal will play the same position and don't want to offer Koupal until they know Bjorn isn't coming. Bjorn is the higher rated player, but this would seem like a fairly risky strategy to play with another highly rated recruit. Especially if hawkbuck's intel is right and Bjorn favors Texas.
