Iowa will be better next year

I posted something similar in a response on another board and wanted to see what you all thought. After reading this board the last couple of weeks, I am confident that next years team will be better. Losing Gesell will help since he isn't any good and can't finish at the rim. Uthoff is playing awful and is afraid to shoot in the last minutes of the game so it will be good to get rid of him. Outside of rebounding Woodbury won't be a big loss. Clemmons doesn't seem to catch as much heat as the others so I guess he will be missed. So besides being a top ten team next year, how many wins do you think Iowa will have? 25-30?

I don't think any other Big Ten team loses as many people or as much production as we do. I just hope that we are able to battle to around .500 in the conference with everything that everybody else has back. That means we need to win about 9 games in the pre conference schedule to get to the NIT.

There are a lot of teams losing some serious pieces. The difference for Iowa is the amount of unknowns for next year beyond Jok. What we cannot assess is the maturation of Moss, Hutton and the ability of Cook to provide topnotch help.

We will be inexperienced but so will many others. Actually, Northwestern and Wisconsin may have the most coming back with MSU, IU and OSU with the most elite talent. Also, don't forget the unbalanced schedule angle. Maybe we will get a break.

I doubt we will be better but should be more athletic. Williams, Moss and Hutton are very good athlete that can break down a defense.

I will say that Christian Williams has shown flashes. He was good against MSU earlier in the year and has been productive so far against IU. Think he's earned some playing time (even if it has been in the wake of foul trouble.

Lets be honest. We've likely reached our peak under Fran. After all this time we still cant defend, execute, shoot free throws, or make bunnies with any level of consistency.

I'm really looking forward to Ahmad Wagner. He is my prediction to make a big jump forward. Give me him and Cook in the post. Make Uhl a 3(he is just too weak to play inside).

My big concern is defense. I'm gonna get heat for saying this but here goes ...

I am not sold on Fran's ability to teach and coach defense. Just not.

Why would you get heat? Your statement is backed by 6 years of evidence.

Woodbury is a liability. A guy his size, in this offense, should have 4-6 easy buckets on the pick and roll every single game. He also should draw 2-3 fouls on it per game too. We don’t even try it when he’s in because he can’t catch the ball. How many rebounds does he fail to secure? How many passes does he bat to the floor before catching? How many times does he have his shot blocked by a guy half a foot shorter than him because he can’t jump over a folded newspaper? How many should-be two-handed dunks end up being missed lay ups?
At times, he’s been pretty good on defense. At times he’s shown he can get up and down the floor. He’s come a long way since his freshman year, but no where near far enough. We’ll be better when he’s playing in Turkey.

I doubt we'll be better. It will be a big accomplishment to qualify for the real tourney with that much youth against this conference. The cupboard isn't bare, but we'll be counting on a lot of inexperience. Jok, Uhl, Wagner, and Baer will be our most experienced players. Getting Jok decent looks will be an even bigger struggle than it has been for the last 4-6 weeks. He may have to play some 1 in the half-court on offense. We could be better inside offensively with Cook + Wagner, but we'll almost certainly take some lumps defensively unless we magically learn how to play Boehim 2-3 against teams with more size inside. And who knows what to expect with Williams and Bohannon.

And enough with this Fran-bashing. My first year at Iowa as a student was Todd Lickliter's first year at Iowa. This is so much better. And it's better than Alford. Won't comment on Dr. Tom because I was too young. There are people who are optimistic about our chances next year because they see talent in this year's true freshman class. And we have a monster in Cook joining us next year. I hate you if you doubt Fran at this point. You simply lack perspective on Hawkeye hoops and I don't care how much older you are than me. Whatever with this year's tease. Our program is in much better shape and there's no one available who's going to take us to the "next level." This very fine season has been brought to you by a staff that has been more and more successful and will be able to recruit more effectively going forward. I hate Hawkeye fans.

I think next year will be similar to RDMs senior year. The good news is that we have a better group of players returning than that NIT team.

There is a 0% chance that we will be better next year. 0%. I do feel better about next year after tonight, but we will have serious growing pains next year. Just in case you missed it OP, 0% chance of being better next year.

Pretty sure the OP was being sarcastic given the way some posters rip into the 4 seniors.

For what it's worth, I don't think guys like Adam Woodbury or Anthony Clemmons are guys that we will (from here on out) see much on Fran-coached teams. Woody doesn't really fit with the run n' gun philosophy, and Clemmons isn't very versatile either.
