Iowa wrestle-offs schedule of matches

You seriously can't get over something an 18 year old kid tried to do to the point that you will cheer against him? He's not the one with the problem.

Also, he was a brain fart away from AA as a true frosh but after joining the Iowa program he's a long shot to AA?

K.

No, he deliberately tried to break his opponents arm mid ass whooping and wouldn't let go even after the ref blew the whistle multiple times. That's not a slip up from a young kid, that's another level entirely. He's a turd and got what he deserved last year. He is one I wish the Hawks would have said no to just like what's his name last year who got kicked out of multiple schools. As far as being a long shot this year, yes. 133 is much tougher this year than last. It makes perfect sense when you use your head and think.

All student athletes deserve our support. I am pulling for Perez Perez even if no one else but his parents are.
If that's what you took from that post, then knock yourself out. The fact that you're wrong again, isn't surprising in the least.

lol ISU fan? What does that even mean.. Just not a DeSanto fan. Only Hawk I will actively root against after his classless actions last season. Thankfully I think he's a long shot too AA and is going to get hammered by the real 133s this year.

Not that it should excuse all poor behavior, but bears mentioning that DeSanto suffers from autism. He’s going to say and do some strange things from time to time. What he did, looked a lot worse than it actually was. Kid got frustrated and almost got into position to kimura Stephen Micic. Micic laughed it off in his post match interview. I suppose someone unfamiliar with the hold might have been more outraged. He didn’t even get DQd, so even the NCAA didn’t think it was that big o deal. Sounds like someone’s looking for a reason to not like a kid.

Sure it is. It's a young kid having trouble dealing with his emotions. It was terrible and thankfully no injury occurred. What he did was dead wrong and he was rightfully criticized. But jeez...get over it. It was hardly a shun for life offense. Downey lives his life as a piece of garbage. The two aren't in the same stratosphere.

133 is tough as hell but he's likely to be right there competing for the podium. Hardly a long shot.

What he did looked bad because it was. I don't care if he has autism, I work with multiple kids currently who have autism and you know how many have tried to inflict serious bodily harm to their opponents? None. I will not excuse the behavior because of his mental disability (is this a pc term to use in 2018?). It also wasn't the first time DeSanto acted like a turd when he was losing a match, as noted on other forums multiple times before.

Spooner, maybe longshot is a bit of a stretch but I don't see him competing with any of the following: Gross, Micic, Fix, Suriano, Pletcher, Lizak or a Tariq Wilson as we saw at NCAAs last year. That leaves one spot open with LOTS of other qualified guys. I can honestly see Suriano out of that group absolutely breaking DeSanto with his stingy defense and teriffic motor. He's also a Jersey hot head and would likely have zero issues throwing down if DeSanto chose to act that way again.

Is Turk's tattoo on his right thigh a pistol or am I seeing things? Half the tattoo was covered by his singlet, but the exposed part looks like the barrel of a pistol.

Stopped reading here.

Lizak? haha

The faux outrage over something sooooo minor is almost laughable. You do realize that he wrestled in the round of 12, meaning the NCAA wasn’t to worried about it. Filed under BFD.

Turk only shoots straight forward, murin is ripped, young looked great, Nelson plays 2 4 1, Cass can ride. Gave 2.5 pounds today and 3 tomorrow
Nelson looked absolutely huge. And his motor is for reals. MacDonald was overwhelmed by Hurricane Nelson. You can kiss any chance of him getting down to 157 goodbye, though. More likely to jump up to 174 after KemDawg sails away into the sunset.

This is a board for Hawk fans, Desanto is a Hawk now. We root for him.

I have family members that if we weren't related I would never hang out with, but we are family so I would do anything for them.

IAWrestle said not a lot of action from Turk/Stickley. Disappointing.
Stickley was catching everything. He seemed a little gassed at the end when he had to turn it on and try for a takedown, but his defense was more than enough to handle Turk. Turk got lucky today. I think Murin takes him out tomorrow.....

Spot on.. however, regarding Nelson’s size, to me he looked like a 57 pounder wrestling 65.. that’s just me though. I also think Warner looks like a tiny 97.

Hmmmm, someone else posted a conversation they had with Nelson where he (Nelson) said he could make 57. I’m a big fan of guys getting strong and wrestling their more natural weight. Cutting sucks and most guys performance diminishes. I’m sure he looks good and healthy at 165. So much for him being the next Jake Ryan. Hope he gives the Bull a good scrap.

If you work with autistic kids then you must a little about it. You must know there are different levels. You must know that medication helps. You must know that once the medication wears off they lose focus very easily. You must know that interacting with people and certain situations is extremely hard for those with this disease. I know this how... because I have a nephew who has this. He does not realize what he is doing half the time he does it. He lives in a different world than we do. I love him to no end but when he is not on his medication he is quite the handful. Now put yourself in Desantos spot in the most intense sport in the world and do I need to say more. You say you work with autistic kids but knowing what I know I am willing to cut him a little slack.

I was the one that talked to him afterwords and I told him how in Gods green earth do you think you can make 157? He laughed and said I could make it. But honestly I feel he is going to keep growing similar to Kem.

He deserves to be on a short leash but also deserves a second chance.

As far as the podium goes, I think it’s a tough weight. Depending on seeds, he could see some hammers early and be ousted.

We don’t look back....we aren’t going that way. BTW liked by mistake.

If that's your standard then Kolat should have been thrown away during high school.

A single misstep has certainly happened with other wrestlers, btw... did you ever see JDen Cox's match where he dumped a guy on his head, out of bounds? As far as I've seen, Cox has never done anything like that before or since, and is a class act.

I wasn't a fan of what happened last year in DeSanto's match against Micic. That's the only thing I saw. He has to learn sportsmanship, and hopefully under Brands, he has.

Your right about that. Wasn't it Sanders who stomped on Robles? People got over that. I don't remember Sanders doing anything else like that either.

This. We have discussed this issue multiple times. Nobody agrees with what happened and we all feel confident in TnT mentoring him. DeSanto is a Hawk and we root for him.

Never seen Nick lose his cool. Usually a pretty steady dude on the mat.

As for your rants against DeSanto, it's a retread of a justified argument. I get it and I thought he should have gotten bounced from the tourney at the time. Since he has been at Iowa, he has gained the respect of his teammates...he goes 100% all the time. He is also a good guy off the mat but very competitive on it.

These are things he needs to harness because he will be under a microscope. There was a reason for those quick stall calls against him in his Rd of 12 match...one right after the other at a quicker pace than I've ever seen...every 20-30 secs in the last minute of the third period. The ref even called it in the last seconds right after DeSanto had worked his way off his belly to his knees...boom, stall call. IMO, this was a makeup call for not DQing him in the Micic match. He will get no breaks.

Will Spencer be wrestling today since he wrestled Perez^2 yesterday and Cashman didn’t wrestle?

I agree with the loyalty angle, but I don't think just plain team loyalty is needed to give this kid another shot. Let Brands be the arbiter of who the Hawks extend a chance to, that's what he gets paid for. Being a Hawkeye might prove to be therapeutic as well to a kid who made a mistake and might just surprise a lot of folks with his behavior from here forward.

I'm more of a three Strikes type of guy on most things non-criminal, and none of us knows how Austin's autism manifests itself. Austin has one strike earned on the big stage on his first time under those lights. Granted a testy one from an optics pov.

In my book that's only one strike. Team/fan affiliation aside, Aistin is very talented, has a motor second to none nationwide, and he is extremely entertaining to watch. From an outsider pov, aside from Spencer, he is my second must see Hawk this year.

If you saw the video leading up to his wrestleoff yesterday. He is a bit like a caged animal pacing back an forth salivating at a chance to get on the matt.

Personally I love that kind of energy. I think we have all known a few people like that over the years that had a tough time handling their own emotions who are wired like that, let alone someone who is autistic. I suspect Austin will operate close to the edge this year many times. What better therapy than to have Spencer give him a daily dose of how to handle it.

The kid's great and despite being in the toughest class in the nation this year, I'm in the camp that says he improves, surprises many, and will be an AA no doubt.
