Maybe I missed this thread, but here's what I would go with if the question were just the best players for their positions. I would change it up a bit if you were wanting the most cohesive lineup...........

PG- Roy Devyn Marble
SG- Peter Jok
SF- Jarrod Uthoff
PF- Tyler Cook
C- Luka Garza

I would substitute Aaron White for Cook.

Marble
Bohannon
Uthoff
White
Garza

Marble and Garza are no brainers because no one comes close to their skills and production.

Bohannon edges out Gatens consistency by a hair due to his end game chutzpah. Jok is a distant third, his basketball IQ leaves a lot to be desired, not sure I have ever seen such a talented basketball player forget how to dribble or do a layup before but Jok managed to do just that.

White is a no brainer over Cook, Cook was a great player but he was just way too much of a black hole on offense and he was extremely lackadaisical on defense. White would be a perfect compliment to Garza because unlike Cook, he doesn't need to be the focus on offense to score and Garza would allow White to roam around causing havoc.

Uthoff is still the clear choice but I have a feeling that Wieskamp by the end of his JR year will make this choice much more difficult.

White, Uthoff, Garza, Marble, & I have to go with Bohannan instead of Jok. Now if you're wanting to include a 2nd team or up to a roster of 13, you could add Woodbury, Gatens, Basabe, Cook, Gesell, Wieskamp, and maybe Clemmons.

Garza, White, Uthoff, and Marble are sure things. Cook is not even close to White. For the last spot, I give the nod to Gatens over Jok and Bohannon. I really think Gatens was hindered very badly by having Licklighter as coach. I think if he had Fran all 4 years, he would be much more highly regarded as a great all-around player.

We had 4 first team all Big Ten players at different positions.
PG Marble
SG Jok
SF Uthoff
PF White

After that you choose between Woodbury, Olaseni, and Garza at center. Garza will likely be 1st team this season. If I’m picking a team from the last 10 years, that’s what I’m going with. Garza in the middle, the other guys busting a zone. White and Marble getting run outs for dunks after picking off passes. No shot blocker and Jok is a liability on defense. But I think we outscore most teams. Unfortunately this team probably sn’t enough to win a Big Ten title when you consider we had 4 of them together already at once just at different ages, but it is probably a top 3 team as long as nobody else gets an all star team, too.

First Team:
Marble
Jok
Uthoff
White
Garza

Second Team:
Cook
Woodbury
Gesell
Gatens
Wieskamp

Honorable mention:
Baer
Bohannon
Olaseni

No Melsahn Basabe?

He wasn't quite as powerful as Tyler Cook, but he was honestly a better ball handler and a terrific shot blocker. One of the best in recent memory, in fact.

It looks totally different if you look at the positions the players probably should have been playing. Too many of these guys had to play out of position which leads to defensive lapses with negative size/quickness mismatches. There have been an over-abundance of fours, and a lack of one and twos. Too many times, fours have been shifted to threes, and threes shifted to twos or even ones. That's why this year is so exciting. Iowa has a true 1, 2, 3, and 5. Kreiner or Cmac are doing a good job at the 4. And, the future looks bright at all five positions.

1. Bohannon, Gesell, Clemmons
2. Jok, Gatens
3. Marble, Wieskamp, May
4. White, Uthoff, Oleseni, Basabe, Cook
5. Garza, Woodbury

Cook was a great dunker, that's it. No way he is first team over White. His absence is one of the reason's this years team is better.

Matt Gatens is a top 5 guy. He owned Wisconsin.
I think if you look at the body of work then I'd take Jok over Gatens. But those last 6-8 games where Gatens put the team on his back and won a couple of big games remains one of the most impressive performances I've seen. Had he not played out of position on some terrible teams for Lick, he probably would have had a much bigger career.

I agree. That guy sucked so bad. Only the 20th all-time leader in scoring for Iowa in 3 years of play? Awful. I mean partially impressive since every single one of them was a dunk as you say and only in 3 years but still!

All-Big Ten selection? What in the hell were those people thinking. They obviously don't know basketball like you and I do to know Tyler Cook sucked!

Glad we cleared that up. *The biggest eye roll imaginable*

Perhaps you should have spent more time watching the games and less time staring at stats. Ryan Kriener has a better PER this year, than Cook did in any of his 3 years here. I don't care that he was the 20th all time leading scorer that shot a lot when he was here. He has the same career FG% Kriener has, with a worse FT% that sat at a pathetic 63%. Unless of course you think Kriener should also be first team all decade.

Cook was doubled teamed quite often. Kriener is not.
