Play a game, have a week off. Play a game, have a week off. Play a game, have a week off. It doesn't lend itself to any sort of consistency. Does anyone else in the BIG have a schedule like this. Or the nation?

As an Iowa basketball junkie. I'd prefer that Iowa play 2 times a week during the season, but I also think it's a good thing that these players need the time off, especially Garza from all the body blows he takes during the games. Keeping the body healthy and fresh could pay dividends starting this Saturday...

I'm sure they do at some point. I mean at least for the conference teams they all start around the same week, and they definetly end the same week, and they play the same number of games, so probably so.

It looks like their longest time between games for the rest of the season is five days. They do a Fri/Wed/Mon in late Jan, a Sat/Thurs in mid Feb, a Thurs/Tues in late Feb and a Tue/Sun in March. Everything else is three or four days.

They also have a compressed schedule at times. They play five games between the 4th and 17th of Jan, four games between 30th Jan and 8th of Feb.

I dislike that we have so few weekend games/ too many Friday night games. Doesn’t seem very friendly to the kids academics and Saturday afternoon is optimal for getting students to attend.

I don't like Friday night games either, but it looks like it's dictated by $. Fox wants those games on Fridays.

As far as the goofy schedule, the Hawks had a week off for finals; not sure if finals week was 'further away' from Xmas compared to other years. Thanksgiving was on the 29th iirc.

From here on out I don't see more than four days of downtime between any games in the schedule,... looks fairly normal to me.

We only have 4 home games this month.

I just hope the fans show up for these upcoming home games:

Fri Jan 10, 6 pm, Maryland
Fri Jan 17, 8 pm, Michigan
Wed Jan 22, 8 pm, Rutgers (they are good!)
Mon Jan 27, 7:30 pm, Wisconsin

I think the schedule this time of year frequently is impacted by the academic calendar and holiday schedule. Isn't the Iowa/ISU game always on the Friday before finals week so that the kids can focus on finals after the game? Then I thought I saw at some point in Fran's tenure he mentioned that he doesn't like to play over the holidays so that people can see their families more easily?

ISU to Cincy was Finals week, Cincy to Kennesaw was Christmas. Having 5 days off in advance of the last 18 conference games makes total sense, because we're not getting that again, it's kind of an All-Star break. Things fall a little differently depending on how the calendar works out and when Big Ten play restarts. The rest of the way: there's always a weekend/mid-week cadence that takes place for scheduling where there's the mid-week (Tues, Weds, Thurs) and weekend (Fri, Sat, Sun, Mon) windows but they also schedule all games so there are 2 days scheduled off between each game.

I love the Friday games and the crowds for them have been great. Michigan last year was as fun of a game that I’ve attended in a long time.

I agree that the Friday and Sunday games have increased to the point of too much. Obviously TV dictates scheduling more than anything.

If all 14 teams are playing (no bye) why not have five games scheduled for Saturday (11:00 cst to 7:00 pm) then have two more scheduled for Sunday. 11:00 or Noon being a premier match up that CBS would snatch up.

You could still play a game on Friday and a couple on Sunday, but the majority should be set for Saturday. And if that’s still the case, I apologize because it seems like Iowa doesn’t have many Sat games.

Iowa has two Friday games - both in Jan and both at home.

Three Sat games (yes three). Two home - One road - Play both games against PSU on Sat

Three Sun games. Both home/away vs ILL and at Minnesota.
