Is it really stand your ground when you put the second shot in his head?

Read the police responded just before 10. So likely around 915 to 930 would be my guess.
I was just about to follow-up with the same info from CNN.com.

In my previous post I was simply pointing out there's a big difference in some kid ringing your doorbell in the day/evening vs some perp in a mask at 2am.

After looking at everything it appears the old dude is most likely not all there mentally. A shouldn't be living alone and B owning a gun. Insert Captain Hindsight.gif

The OP's story was from a very liberal news site which is known for omitting facts.

I agree with you that it's not a smart move attempting to open someones door in the middle of the night
It's a dumber move to keep a firearm when you clearly aren't capable of handling it appropriately.

For ****s sake it wasn’t at 2am. Quit trying to justify this you morons. The crazy scared old coot shot him through the door and then put a 2nd bullet in him and left him out there to die. Didn’t call 911, didn’t do anything.
I’m sorry.. I thought someone said it occurred very late. Easy! I’m not trying to justify anything as I clearly said that. There are very few details in the linked OP’s article.

What happened that resulted in the kid being shot in the first place? You can’t just shoot a person because they knock on your door. That doesn’t pass a stand your ground defense. Was there a threat that took place? Is it accurate the kid was there to pick up his sister? I realize the kid was shot a second time, but this is where journalism fails. What happened that the guy shot him? Why is that not in here?
This might sound crazy, but sometimes people that shouldn't have guns....have guns. And then they do really bad things with them for absolutely no reason.

but the kid clearly made a bad decision to knock on a door at 2:00 am
Not if that's where his parents sent him (wrong/right address is irrelevant from a decision making point). Even if it's 2am I'm not shooting through my front door if the only thing that's occurred is a doorbell ring. Hell, my 1am doorbell, door-kicking in story never had a shot fired.

I realize that. That being said, I have to feel like he will eventually be charged?

He’s been charged. Somehow though this so called senile old man has supposedly found his way to Arizona. So they have to bring his old KKK ASA back from there.

You walk around a neighborhood jerking on door handles at night and bad things are bound to happen to you.

Good thing that we don't have a lot of old people, crazy people, people living alone, or gun owners then,.. isn't it?

That's possibly true. However, Ralph wasn't walking around a neighborhood jerking on door handles. He went to where he "thought" his parents sent him around 9pm. He walked up to the house and rang the doorbell. No one answered, so the kid was opening the storm door to likely knock on the door (I've done that; especially when I'm not sure I heard the bell working) only to get shot through the darn door.

"In an interview with police, Lester stated he had just laid down in bed when he heard the doorbell ring."

Just have to say that teenage me, going to a strange house to pick up my kid sister, I'm phoning her from the curb...

Well, that is good. It at least provides some sort of faith in the system.

I read in a different article that his sister was at his aunts house...not sure if that's true or not but if so that may be why he actually went up to the door.

Or he reached for the handle when he saw the old man open the door to be helpful and was going to tell the guy that he was there to pick up his siblings.

The excuse making is ridiculous. There is a significant responsibility to owning a firearm people need to take it seriously. If you can't handle it you shouldn't own one. You certainly shouldn't have a loaded one in your home.

The intent of this entire publicity from a journalism POV is not the stand your ground law or not the loss of life, but because this was a white person who killed a black person. Would this have even been an issue if it was a black person who killed a black person?

Nobody was killed.

Edit: And there's the other story out of NY now about an old white man shooting at white girls that pulled into his driveway. So while race plays into this one a bit, I think it would still make headlines given the circumstances.

85 year old man hears someone at his door during the night. He gets up to investigate and yes he takes a small caliber pistol with him. He opens the door and comes face to face with a large black male who is apparently trying to get in as he his trying to open the door. At age 85 he did what many would do when they feel threatened.

Charges have been filed to placate the pitchfork and torch crowd but he will never be convicted on those charges based on the fact circumstances.

Question 1. Do you think Lester fires if it's a "large white male"?
Question 2. Who is lying, 84-year old Lester or the 16-year old honor student?

Detectives were able to interview Yarl in the hospital on April 14, according to the affidavit. He told cops he walked up to the door and rang the bell, then waited—but never pulled on the handle. When Lester showed up, Yarl said he “was immediately shot in the head and fell to the ground,” then he was shot in the arm as he lay there, wounded.

I disagree. It was an old man who should not have access to a gun at his age.

1. Lester fires no matter what color the person trying to gain entry is.

2. Yarl allegedly is suffering from a head injury so do you think he might be a little confused as to what took place.

This whole matter was just a terrible misunderstanding and definitely does not need to end in someone going to jail over.
