Or is the QB position going to be opened up and let the best man win. With Mansel and now Petras signing, can one of these guys take his job?

I'll say this, I do believe if by chance we have another QB that blew up in spring/fall, he'd be considered if they "really" thought he was better. But he'd have to be incredible to supplant Stanley. Because he had a hell of a year & major upside.

For the most part I believe our staff nails personnel decisions despite their obnoxious critics.

The more interesting topic is since Petras is a four star will the fans automatically consider him better than Mansell....

Wieger was a 4 star, so I would say no. The 'star' system is a crap shoot anyway outside the top 50 players in the country.

Any other smart***** wanna chime in??
What do you expect when you start a stupid ass thread....he was wonderful this year and who in the hell would dethrone him? PM will be RSF and although Petras film looked fantastic nobody is going to replace a Soph QB who will have been in the system for his 3rd year and put up some incredible #'s this year.

Drew Breese, meet Tom Brady.

Joe Montana, meet Steve Young.

Different situations, but you get my drift. Shit happens.
Very different situation, you had aging stars and upcoming professional players. Favre meet Rodgers, Manning meet luck. It's like comparing apples to oranges because the franchises are looking at the future because eligibility doesn't end after 4 or 5 years......

No position should be set in stone, hopefully.
Agree with this, if a player gets complacent or in trouble or injured.....however; this thread was started bc of an impressive recruit coming in. Now if Stanley gets hurt and somebody comes in and tears it up- sure, however; there will be no QB competition going into the season unless something completely crazy happens. Stanley could go down as one of the best hawkeye QB's ever-his upside is that good and that is saying alot because his stats this year were pretty darn good- upgraded WR corp and that will look even better

Just watch the Ohio State game again.

That is all.
Watch the games vs Wisconsin and Purdue. Not saying he shouldn't start, just not saying it shouldn't be a foregone conclusion already

8-24, 41 yards and an INT
16-33, 176 yards, an INT and a garbage time TD

He only competed over 60% of his passes in 3 games
The horrible Tanner Lee of Nebraska did that in 5 games

Alot of people think competition among postions is good, brings out the best. So how do sign a guy, and tell him no way your gonna play barring, "something completley crazy happens"?

100% agreed, and the return rate on five star players I think is still only in the neighborhood of 50 or 60 percent?

I believe it was Bledsoe as well.

I was referring to his potential. ;)

Yeah he is pretty much a given. he is already one of the best QBs in the big ten.
