Is Stanley set in stone

Iowa was ALWAYS behind on downs and 3rd and long. It went something like this - "1st down = run stuffed, 2nd down = run stuffed again, 3rd and long = pass and way too often followed by a punt". I think Stanley can become a great qb, just not there yet. His spot should be up for competition. Even more so, Brian F has failed as OC.
LMAO!!! Did you ever watch a game this year? Sober? Well since that is what ALWAYS happened, then obviously Iowa never scored an offensive TD this year. Hell, since that is what ALWAYS happened they never even got a first down this year, LMAO. Do you also go by the name Joel Bittner on this site, LOL. Did that twister down there in texas drop a longhorn on your head? Have you been drinking heavily? Not enough?
Okay, even the biggest derelicts on here aren't going to support you in this post, except maybe that "I'm a troll, didn't think" kid (or something like that)......:)

Perhaps you should have your mommie read it and explain what I said for you. Grasp of English syntax is not your strength.

Typical of ignorant, uneducated boor....the 'mommy slam'. Lol.... WE all know exactly what you said. And we all know how ignorant it is. Syntax has nothing to do with your use of the word 'always'. You apparently do not know what syntax means. Where we supposed to take your statement as embroidery? I took it quite literally. Oh, and as far as syntax goes, no one would call your writing 'the arrangement of words and phrases to create well-formed sentences'.
Oh, and btw, my 'mommy' is 78 yrs. old and knows more about football than you do sonny. I'll call here later tonite and have her explain what you said in your post, LMAO............You're an 'entertaining' guy, Tex. I'm surprised you didn't bring up my mommy's basement, lol. All you 'children' on here have the same couple insults that you use that apparently are hurtful to your type.

And muskie, you are incapable of discerning figures of speech and exaggerating for emphasis. I communicated over you head. Sorry. (BTW, you started the belittling - I just fired back in kind)

Oh, so we are supposed to ASSUME that everything you post is hyperbole. When do we know to take you seriously? I will never take you seriously, as you know NOTHING about college football. And I am not exaggerating. Just get drunk, watch the games and try to enjoy them. You have no answers for anything a college football team does, you don't have an inkling of an understanding of any of their schemes. Want me to quiz you to prove my point?
If you tried to talk to the coaches about football, they would laugh you out of the room, so save your ignorant OPINIONS and slamming of coaches, okay bubba.
P.S.- YOU started the slamming by belittling coaches behind their backs like the anonymous coward you are. Tell Brian to his face how he has 'failed' as an OC. Since Brian isn't on here to defend himself, I do it for him.

I very happy to have Petras on board, but Stanley starts. Petras throws a nice ball and puts some air under his deep balls, but if you look at his film his receivers often have to slow down. It's been effective, but it's not like he's dropping the ball into the hands while they're in full stride. He's good, but he's not coming in NFL ready as some want us to believe. Stanley will get better, he knows the system and the receivers, and he throws a nice ball too.

As far as the Nebby QB completing passes at 60% does that include the defense?

Hey brilliant one, I mean muskie. Coaches are public servants and fair game for criticism. Brian F. has done a poor job as offensive coordinator. #107 of 129 is what I call piss poor performance.

We will see a quantum leap in Stanley's performance next year. The offense will improve around and with him. He did not do a bad job, but can certainly improve.

Petras will have time to develop and if he earns it will hopefully will be getting #2 reps by his red shirt freshman year. He has the tools to be the very good. GURU KOK will bring him along nicely.

Just watch the Ohio State game again.

That is all.

Crap, I wish I had read that before watching the Wisconsin replay. But seriously, let's hope Petras doesn't have to start next year. That would probably mean either Stanley had seriously regressed or gotten injured. Wiegers was a 4-star QB and he's never seen the field except in garbage time and he got beat out by a true freshman (Stanly) to be Beatherd's backup in 2016. It's possible that will be Petras' future as well. When Stanley is gone or hurt, he'll still have to beat out Mansell and there's no guarantee that Petras is going to be better than Mansell. No reason to anoint an unknown quantity as the next Chuck Long. I hope Petras is good, but QB seems to be the most difficult position to accurately project from a recruiting perspective.

Petras chose wisely. He'll need that time to learn the pro style offense. In high school he ran almost exclusively out of the gun. No doubt he has aspirations of playing in the league, and he'll be well schooled at Iowa, in transitioning his skill set to a pro offense, unlike so many young signal callers.

We didn’t even play Wisconsin this year Eternal. I don’t know who was wearing our uniforms, but they did the same thing at MSU & Northwestern.

I’m not gonna call Petras God yet and I still wanna see Peyton play.

lol. My bad. I should have realized the Iowa players were kidnapped for some secret government operation during the UW and Purdue games. Typical of the CIA to undermine Iowa football. Damnit!

Nate will get all the 1st team reps obviously, but I expect his greatest advance next season will come in film study and recognizing defensive tendencies/strategies. Not to be critical at all, but how many nothing runs into the line of scrimmage were the result of checking down to the wrong call? Particularly vs. Wisconsin where there entire defensive scheme is to confuse and misdirect the offense?

By all reports, Nate is a diligent, serious and intelligent kid who will do the work necessary to improve in this area. We've already seen that he's more than capable of making all the plays needed to make this offense work. I will always have faith in our lines ability to execute at a high level. I don't expect any major changes in the playbook, just an uptick in productivity.

Go back and look at the film. How many times did Iowa's WR/TE Hurt Stanley? There were a LOT of easy drops. Beautiful deep ball WR hits right to the DB for INT instead of Touchdown. TE drops easy 1st down conversion to end game in OT. Possession receiver drops ball in mitts on crossing pattern.
Stanley was not perfect but he managed most games well and put ball where it should be. Out of the 6 INT, two of them atleast were directly on the receiver.
When your "#1WR" was very rusty from year off, your #2 WR was new on campus and your #3 WR is a true freshman, there is a lot of room for improvement on a solid first year. Add in two freshman starting tackles and this year was a positive foundation.

Not going to give near as much optimism if next year doesn't improve, but the offense felt light years better than Davis from a year ago in that you had a chance to get a first down on any play.
