Is there one good movie before The Godfather (1972)?

For a Few Dollars More, Planet of the Apes, Blazing Saddles was just after Godfather. Deliverance and The Poseidon Adventure. Dirty Harry and Play Misty for Me. Swiss Family Robinson was a good one.

Good/Bad/Ugly. Just because it hasn't been mentioned yet. Cured football withdrawals for me a few years back.

Has to be considered a classic. The cinematography and some role acting wasn't epic, but the story and the eccentricity of the spaghetti western was riveting. More so with The Good/Dad/Ugly than the others.

I don't mean to stick my nose into this but the subject of the thread shows you know little to nothing about movies, so don't get your panies in a wad when people make fun of you over it.

I know plenty about movies, I’ve seen thousands. I just think anything before The Godfather blows.

I feel like you have little or no perspective and you are happy that you are ignorant to my beliefs.

You could have structured your OP differently so not to have raised the hackles of the old farts.

See, that's the problem, anybody who knows anything about movies knows that's bullshit and it shows how little you really know about movies.

Age has nothing to do with it. Anybody with any level of knowledge in movies knows that what he said is bullshit.

I agree with this after seeing his post saying "I know plenty about movies, I’ve seen thousands. I just think anything before The Godfather blows".

So, in your opinion, The God Father is the best movie ever made up to that point. O.K. In fairness, that is understandable. It is difficult for many of us to appreciate, given some of the epic movies made before it, but since you have seen thousands, you no doubt have included that standard classics to compare.

“Epic” lolz.

Honestly, I've seen a couple football hit films I liked more than the original Godfather. Part 2 is in rarified air, but the first one should have been like 90 minutes. It was a chore to watch compared to 2. Just so I could say I saw The Godfather. I haven't mustered the courage to watch 3 yet. The posters earlier talking about Goodfellas and Donnie Brasco are right. Even Casino. Much more fun to watch than the original Godfather for gangster films. Of course, they came after 1972. But probably nothing good before 1972. Speaking of Al Pacino, wasn't Scarface a remake of an Al Capone movie from the 40s? Haven't seen that, but I imagine it's good. I wonder if, when drug dealers get their doors busted in on search warrants, they ever have posters of the first Scarface? Probably just the Pacino one. Because life for people was probably pretty dull until color TV and the Vietnam War.

Edit: Also LOL Boondock Saints. I love it. Conor McGregor remake is scheduled for 2021 after his 6 fight deal. Liam Neeson is playing the dad.

Question for you Snow, did you see The Florida Project? One of my favorite new movies I've seen the past couple years. I think you're like Jax/Atlantic coast area, but have you visited Orlando much? Is that as real as it looked?

This thread prompted me to google a list of 100 best films of the 1960's and I discovered that whoever had compiled it included 10-12 foreign movies from the era that I had never heard of. I guess I will have a resource for my next pay-per-view!

In any case here is a handful of absolute classics from the era that Mr. Mars should discover ... hand selected from the IMBD list by me. With the exception of the first and third items, I think each one would be to his taste; that is, to the taste of one who likes gangster movies.

-Breakfast at Tiffany's
-Hud
-Midnight Cowboy
-Hombre
-Bonnie and Clyde
-Cool Hand Luke

The whole list is worthwhile however.

Have not seen it. Always pause at it. Will have to check it out.

Dude Florida Project is fantastic. No arrogance. The director is a genius and he paired Willem Dafoe with locals Florida and Iowa are different. But I have white trash roots. The kids in the movie are so good. It reminds me of being a kid. It's also lighthearted for the most part. It is my favorite movie for sure the last 2-3 years.
