ISU game the key.

This. The game may illustrate the value of a playmaking QB/offense.
Purdy may have more turnovers but more than compensate for them
but making key plays at critical points. In the meantime, our offense is carefully stringing together another series of 3 and outs.
I think Purdy will see a bunch of 3 and outs, don't you ?

Well, not sure what legit defenses are, but 6 of 7 Big XII bowl game opponents (Alabama, Cal, Georgia, Missouri, Syracuse, Washington St) were held below their season scoring average.

The devil is in the details. Taking out ISU's defense (he doesn't have to play them) and TCU's defense (the poster you're relying to said TCU was a legit defense) the remaining 4 gave up an average of 33.25 ppg. If you want to hang your hat on "held below their season average scoring", more power to you.

The two best defenses Purdy played against were WASU (42nd) and Texas (67th). He was 28-50 with 0 TDs and 3 INTs in losing both those games. He was ineffective against Texas Tech (108th) and perennial powerhouse Drake. He has to be the most overhyped QB in memory based on who he played and how he performed in those games.

With how amped up players get before the CyHawk game, I don’t necessarily see having two weeks to prepare for it as a huge (if any) advantage. State pretty much knows what the Hawks are gonna do anyways
Iowa St. having a bye week before the Iowa game doesn’t matter since they start installing their game plan for Iowa the first day of fall camp anyway.

Purdy was 7-2 as a starter as a true freshman with his two losses @Texas and a close bowl game loss vs. Wash State. Both teams finished the year top ten in the country. Purdy was named Big 12 freshman of the year. His passing efficiency numbers ranked sixth in the country last year (169.9) and were the best-ever in the NCAA by a true freshman. He held offers from Alabama and Texas A&M out of HS. Not to mention, hes a charasmatic, smart kid - easy to rally around. Silly cyclone fans for being excited to have him leading the team for the next 3 years.

Silly clown fans also wet themselves over Sam Richardson, Jacob Park, Kyle Kempt and Zeb Noland.

Let’s see if Purdy can do what none of them have been able to and finish an entire season. With the piss poor isu OL I wouldn’t make large bets on that in Vegas.

Hey, look at the ISU thread created by an ISU troll so he can run back to fanatic and use it as evidence of an Iowa obsession. How clever.

No matter who started the thread, this thread demonstrates beyond a shadow of a doubt Iowa's complete and total obsession with ISU...

I think having a bye week that early could hurt ISU. There is nothing better than live game action to get prepared and improve and get timing down for an offense etc.

See it both ways. Iowa fans will be pretty POd if you have a significant injury or two week prior to ISU game.

Only as long as clown fans ignore the Iowa Obsession forum on cryclown fanatic. I see why no self respecting clown fan would acknowledge this. Then again clown fans always ignore anything that blows up their bs arguments. Glad to see you are no different.

I didn't say he didnt have a good season. He did benefit from not having to play the best defenses on their schedule and he did nothing to make all the timid Iowa fans here have any reason to wet themselves over the prospect of having to play him.

Lol okay you said hes the most overhyped QB in memory. He is the returning Big 12 freshman POY and most efficient true freshman QB in the history of the NCAA. He EARNED the hype. And last I checked those same teams/defenses are on Iowa States schedule again this year. I guess I am not understanding your point?

If Iowa had a true freshman QB with those kinds of honors and success you better believe youd be going on about it.

He didn’t play the whole year or even close - and only played the worst defenses the team faced on the schedule - average rank 80th or so. Spare us on the whole most efficient true freshman crap because no one is counting that with a partial season like that in any history textbooks. If he were coming back for us we’d be excited, sure, but skeptical, especially since golden boy had a bunch of turd games including getting benched against non-scholarship Drake.

It's in the NCAA football history textbook. Sorry.

Brock Purdy had one game where he had a QBR under 140. Stanley had a season ranking of 136.

The thing about guys who've generated (and have even earned) such hype and accolades ... is that quality defenses spend that much more time breaking down tape. In '18, Purdy was an unknown commodity. He had a proven RB like Montgomery to help keep Ds honest, he had a jump-ball expert in Butler, and Purdy offers the tough match-up of being a pretty mobile guy.

With defenses placing an emphasis on game-planning Purdy ... and having a whole season of tape to study from ... that will pose a whole new set of challenges for Purdy. Furthermore, without weapons like Montgomery and Butler ... how will that impact his production?

Big 12 play defense?

Brock Purdy finished sixth in passing efficiency in the entire country as a true freshman. Who were the top five you ask?

1.) Tua Tagovailoa
2.) Kyler Murray
3.) Will Grier
4.) Dwayne Haskins
5.) Jake Fromm
6.) Brock Purdy

I'd say that is a pretty damn good indicator of how good your quarterback is. But yes, Brock Purdy is the most overhyped QB in memory.

Purdy >>> Stanley

It will undoubtedly impact it. Will he make better choices? I think he leaned too hard on Butler last year - there were a lot of easy, underneath throws that he passed on to chuck it deep. He also kept the ball on runs sometimes when he handed it off. Question will be if his decision making improves from his freshman year to sophomore year. You'd expect it to going from a true freshman to a sophomore, but you never know.

I expect for him to improve ... and I think that he's a talented kid too. However, the context may be whether he improves at a rate that outstrips the improvements of the defensive gameplans devised to slow him.

The ISU game is important for state bragging rights and that's it. In terms of winning the West and/or the conference title, the ISU game is meaningless.

And Stanley has beaten you guys twice. He also managed to find a way to beat the best defensive team Iowa or Iowa State had to face last year in Miss St. Purdy got pulled against Drake and lost to WASU.
