ISU game the key.

The ISU game is important for state bragging rights and that's it. In terms of winning the West and/or the conference title, the ISU game is meaningless.
It's meaningless in terms of how the teams do in their respective conferences, which is the primary point for both of them. But it isn't meaningless in terms of national rankings and bowl selections when both teams are pretty good, as it appears they will be this year.

I know what you are saying, but my main goal for Iowa is to win the West. If we do that then it is all in front of us. The ISU game would be a loss but not a season definer. Make no mistake, I want to beat ISU always, but I would rather lose in the non con than to a division rival.

So would I.

Ames’ Super Bowl with State-Fair Super Bowl prices.

Looking back at 2017 — we had to make EVERY SINGLE play to win that game. I think this year will be similar.

Brock Purdy finished sixth in passing efficiency in the entire country as a true freshman. Who were the top five you ask?

1.) Tua Tagovailoa
2.) Kyler Murray
3.) Will Grier
4.) Dwayne Haskins
5.) Jake Fromm
6.) Brock Purdy

I'd say that is a pretty damn good indicator of how good your quarterback is. But yes, Brock Purdy is the most overhyped QB in memory.

Purdy >>> Stanley

I see he barely made the requirement to play in 75% of the games played. Congratulations.

Stanley played against much tougher defenses than Purdy’s average #81 defense played. Stanley>>>>>>>>>>Purdy

Nope none of this counts. Clown fans are really good at telling us what does and what doesn’t fit within their accepted reality.

I think having a bye week that early could hurt ISU. There is nothing better than live game action to get prepared and improve and get timing down for an offense etc.
Not when you have so much experience returning. They aren’t learning the system. They are truly prepping for the opponent.

And Stanley has beaten you guys twice. He also managed to find a way to beat the best defensive team Iowa or Iowa State had to face last year in Miss St. Purdy got pulled against Drake and lost to WASU.
How did he do against NW, Purdue, or Wisconsin? He managed to move the hawks up to 4th in the West division with all of that NFL talent on offense.

Stanley looked like shit many times last year. I agree State fans pumping up Purdy like he's Johnny Manziel is a joke, but Stanley has a lot to prove this year.

You still need game reps. Especially the oline and they do have new starters as well in some spots. I would rather play than sit that early in the year

Those 3 games you mention were not even close to Stanley's fault for the losses. Turnovers in NW and Wisconsin, and for Purdue our D just could not make the stops.

For Iowa, especially when game is in Ames, it presents itself as a good trial for what is to come on the road in the Big Ten. Loud environment. And we face teams that run similar offenses on down the road.

Clone trolls would say Iowa game prices get jacked up because so many Hawk fans want to come watch the super bowl.

Why would the seats be available if clown fans did their part? Or is it that clown fans would rather sell their tickets then go to the game?

Icclown will tell us I’m sure.

I guess everything is for sale if the price is right.

He definitely could be better at times but he would look a lot better with actual weapons at WR and consistency at RB. Without those things we were a hair away from a 10-2 or 11-1 year

True. and this year Iowa is going to be one of the better teams on the ISU schedule, according to the pre-season hoopla. It's a good early season test for both teams. Just what a non-conference game is supposed to be.

Iowa State is always a good barometer for how Iowa's season will play out.

Under Ferentz, in years when Iowa beats Iowa State the Hawkeyes average NINE wins/season. Only once in KF's tenure has Iowa failed to win at least 8 games when beating Iowa State (2006 - Tate senior year).

Under Ferentz, in years when Iowa loses to Iowa State the Hawkeyes average only 6 wins/season (which includes a 1-win year in 1999 and an 11-win year in 2002). 2002 is the only year in which Iowa has won more than 7 games in a season in which it has lost to Iowa State under KF.

Generally speaking, when Iowa loses to Iowa State it's a pretty good sign they are average to below average, which makes sense because historically during this time Iowa State has been average to (well) below average.

All that said, this year is probably a bit different since Iowa State is probably a legit 8-9 win team, so I could see the Hawks dropping this one and still going on to win 8-9 games.

Stanley completed less than 60% of his passes with two 1st rd big bodied TEs that were mismatches for underneath and intermediate routes. They caught 10 of his 16 completed passes last year against ISU. He is facing a stout defense with a great deal of experience returning. Who is going to be a mismatch for the defense? The hawks don’t have one this year so KF is forced to take risks to win the game. That is not really in KF’s DNA.

The Iowa offense didn’t need to do much in the isu game in order to win it. Just don’t put the defense in a bad position and the game was over. Good thing isu got points on their opening drive or it would have been a shut out.

Do you need me to explain more about football to you?

You want to win every game, and because of the higher expectations for ISU this season, the angst is higher. The Hawks need to improve, win in the trenches and win the turnover battle. Hawks win a close game.
