It’s about to go down!!!

With that sort of a lineup, ideally you try to make it hard for the guards to make entry passes.

Speed the game up with traps and switching all the screens. Make the guards play one on one taking it to the hoop with multiple 6'9 guys to help protect the rim.

When they do get an entry feed you swarm the post player with two and 3 guys. (Even Garza struggled with that.)

Multiple long arm defenders who can block shots from behind makes it hard to beat the doubles with a shot or a pass.

This will work well against most of the big ten besides Purdue.

Against PU id sag off or even zone. You don't want to speed up Ivey going at the rim and you don't want to double Williams in the post with how well he passes. He loves to get doubled.

If Kris Murray can play heavy minutes at the "2" then we will have defensive spurts like the football team. Keegan, Kris and Patrick would eat up a huge part of the defensive court, create some very frustrating traps and make it difficult to even get into an offensive set.

Unless and until things go bad there is every reason to be excited about this season's boys basketball.

I can see both playing the 2-4 no problem this year.

Yes, I believe that'll be the starting lineup.

Then your 'second' unit: Uhlis, Perkins, Kris, Connor, Riley, Josh, in some combination. It's hard to get 6 bench guys meaningful time each game -- unless, Iowa is blowing out everyone.

Unless Sandfort really impresses like Keegan did last year (or heaven forbid, injuries), I think he'll be a 'victim' of a numbers game much like Kris Murray was last season. Just not enough minutes in the game for everyone. He might be a prime candidate to redshirt, although I do like his versatility and the way he's bulked up (that picture looks like he's put on 10-15 lbs of muscle this summer).

I know Laketa is already planning on redshirting this year. There's something about him that I really like. Not as a potential superstar, but he seems like a highly intelligent player, and versatile on the wing and down low (although, not up against guys built like Garza). In some ways, Riley Till comes to mind. A very valuable teammate and capable of contributing as needed.

I'm not sure of the situation with Kingsbury. That guy has a man's body already.

Speaking of redshirting, what are the current rules on that? I think with the medical redshirt you can play in 30% of your team's games and still obtain a redshirt. In the back of my mind I was thinking there was something about allowing kids to play in a handful of games and still redshirt, but I certainly could be wrong on that account.
Why do people on here readily assume that Connor won't be in the starting lineup getting 22-25 minutes per game this year? He's a 3 year starter and Fran's son. Has something changed that I'm not aware of?

Probably wishful thinking. But also his hip(s).

Count me in as one of those fans who think Connor will likely average under 15 minutes a game when it is all said and done this season. We have to extend some minutes to these young guys coming up so we know what they can bring to the court every night.

Connor was a very complimentary piece when you surrounded him with guys like Garza, Weiskamp, and Cook.

I'd prefer he be in the game more when we have our traditional posts (Ogundele and Mulvey) in the game due to how well Connor can post entry.

Wishful thinking. Just like the people riding the pine are better than the starters.

He averaged 22.8 last season after a high of 30 the year before. I think with the depth at guard and no Garza that it would be natural for him to play fewer minutes, definitely no more.

Right. So I think you might be seeing a starting lineup of JBo and Connor at the guards, Keegan and Patrick at the wings and Rebraca at center. I'd be surprised if anyone else cracks that starting lineup.

Barring injury, Joe T is as good as written in pen as a starter based on what McC has said. He's the PG going forward unless he does something to lose it.

After that, I don't see CMac starting ahead of JoBo but I suppose it could happen. Doubt it, but it could.

There is a lot of talent that sat on the bench last year. They will play more this year, you can bet on that. There are minutes available and CMac will not be taking the majority of those unless he really improves his shooting.

When JBo returned, he stated that Fran re-recruited him to play the 2. He also stated that it was Joe T's turn to run the point and he didn't want to get in the way of that. Sounds to me like Joe T at the 1 and JBo at the 2 for two of the starters. Not to mention that a backcourt of Connor and JBo would be a recipe for a defensive disaster.

I think everyone can agree that Keegan starts at a forward spot.

By all accounts it appeared that Rebraca came here to start. And the most logical spot would be at the 5.

That leaves one forward spot. Even if Fran initially goes with the seniority of Connor, I just don't see it lasting. Connor knows that Patrick is better. And he know that Patrick starting in that second forward spot is good for the team. Connor is a good teammate. He is a good family member. I would not be at all surprised to see Connor suggest giving up his spot to Patrick. Also, it wouldn't be as bad as pairing with JBo in the backcourt, but I just don't think starting Connor and JBo at any positions is a good idea for this team defensively

I honestly doubt Connor starts. Joe T, JBo, PMac, Keegan and Rebraca makes the most sense.

Could be.. Fran favors shooters and JBo didn't come back to come off the bench. This starting lineup would be the same as last year inserting Rebraca for Garza and Patrick for Joe. Keegan was already starting last year when Fredrick was out with injury. I just don't see CMac losing his starting position assuming he's healthy but we'll see. CMac started over JT all last year so I think it's far from a foregone conclusion at this point that he won't again.

If he can defend the 2 then I want him starting at the 4.

Personally I think the best D you can have is 5 players on the court together that can all defend the oppositions guards, allowing you to switch screens, with out sacrificing the ability to defend the rim and rebound.

Being able to auto switch screens without thinking about it simplifies so much of defense.

This. You don't need guards defending a big 5 feet from the bucket but occasionally you will need a forward on a guard, especially in a zone.

Them boys READY!! Keegan 6’9, 224 lbs and Kris 6’9, 222 lbs. Might be a problem with them on the floor together!!

People should have listened

Congratulations PHawk!!! Kris is forcing his way onto the floor for more crunch time and a substantial minutes increase. He was a delight to watch tonight. He earned a starting job IMO with his play, I just hope he doesn’t get drafted. I’d love to see him in as our star next year.
