It is RECRUITING season!

No interest in Mason Parris by the coaches...alrighty then.
It appears we are going to get a commit from a top 30 HWT that is committed to wrestling. It only makes sense that they wouldn't be showing up on Parris' door step the first day of recruiting when that isn't a weight of need anymore. The staff recruited Parris, and made the only logical decision when another stud said yes.

Is this unnamed HWT #1 in his weight class?

Cassioppi is #28 on the senior big board, and will be ranked #3/4 next year at 285 depending on where people wrestle. He is a quality recruit, and I for one will be extremely happy if this becomes official. If both him and Parris said yes, I would take Parris, but Mason potentially playing football means you take a stud at a weight of need and move on, IMO. We'll see how it plays out

I hope you have inside info and aren't basing this on who he follows on Twitter.

To be clear I want Teske. But am a little concerned why the coaches want him as bad as some on here have said. And what I mean is if either Teske or Lee can go 133 awesome. But I have only heard they are both '25 lifers. I have also heard that when healthy Lee would handily take Teske. So, outside of depth, are the coaches concerned Lee won't get back to 100 percent which is why we Teske so bad? Once again, I want Teske I just hope Lee will be back to 100 percent and one can go 133. My 2 cents.
Makes me wonder if Lee is planning on being a 4 year collegiate or not? Whats the chances he'll be taking an Olympic redshirt then jumping into freestyle full time in 3 years?

Mathematically I don't think that's possible.

Yes I know haha but from hearing him speak, his long term goal isn't Olympic gold. It's to be a D1 AD. I think winning some NCAA titles and what not will help him out there.

GREAT that we have verbals from Mejia, Lugo and Cassioppi (until LOIs are signed, they're verbals -- after what happened with Teasdale, I'll always have a wait-and-see attitude). But I'm still anxious to hear about Sasso and Hidlay - those are two that I really want in Iowa City. If the Hawks sign those two, then I feel good about Iowa winning NCAAs from 2019 to 2022.

He's explicitly said multiple times he wants to be an Olympic champ.

I'm all for Spencer winning 4 NCAAs, 2 Olympics, and throw in a few World Championships (Sr. level)....then head coach of the Hawks for a while, before stepping into an AD position. Why not?

So Spencer, if you're reading this (I know you're not) I'll be your schedule planner for the next 25+ years:

March 2019 - NCAA Champ
March 2020 - NCAA Champ
Sept. 2020 - Olympic Champ
March 2021 - NCAA Champ
March 2022 - NCAA Champ
Sept. 2022 - World Champ / Asst. Coach at Iowa / Grad. School
Sept. 2023 - World Champ / Asst. Coach at Iowa / Grad. School
Sept. 2024 - Olympic Champ / Asst. Coach at Iowa / Grad. School
Oct. 2024 - Head Coach of Iowa Hawkeyes
April 2044 - Assistant AD of major university

RELAX people, I'm not "putting pressure" on the young man, just having some f*** It's f*** to dream big, and those with special talents/skills should strive for the highest possible (if you laugh at what I think is possible for Spencer, you would die from laughter about my HUGE aspirations in the field that I work in!!). :);):p:cool:

A couple of more guys yesterday and we could have settled all the family business

I'd guess tOSU is where he lands. I'm sure he put this list out to have tOSU up the offer a little. I don't get why he would release this list and say "in this order but I'll make a decision in a couple weeks" unless it was to worry the other schools to pony up a little more money.

I find it a little awkward as well since he just got done climbing the Manitou Incline with tOSU wresting team, but who knows. And since the Hawks aren't on the list, who cares:)

Or, you know, this is his current preference on schools.

From what I hear, his family has plenty of money so I don't think its really a concern.

I love how everyone says that money isn't a concern "his family has money". Um, people with money value money and would not simply pay $80,000 when they could get something similar for $0. I exaggerated my point above with numbers sure, but why do people say this so often on here? Gavin Teasdale doesn't care about his offer from PSU because "he has a rich uncle?" Seriously?

Very well said. Have thought the same thing for years.

I agree in theory but parents of this generation spoil their kids. If for example, the difference between PSU and Lehigh is 20% and he really, really wants to go to PSU, Mommy and Daddy are going to foot the bill. If money is the priority, the Kent States and others of the world would get a lot of our 2nd tier recruits who may have won three titles and had decent results at Fargo. Some guys just want to go to Iowa or PSU...damn the money part of it. Also, if you are looking at results for 149, PSU will have had 4 titles at that weight alone in 8 years (if Zain goes out on top) plus two world team members. Some are happy with a car that runs, others are want the fastest or the most luxurious and are willing to pay.

Then why not just commit to Leigh instead of dangling this little carrot out for a couple weeks?

Because he might not yet have his mind made up?

Surely, even in 2017, it would be possible for a person to have a priority list, but without their mind made up - and to publish it without ulterior motive.

Exactly it's 2017 everything's a conspiracy; don't ya know that? ;)

Sure then, parents spoil their kids and would be willing to do most anything to send their kids to the school of their choice...they will borrow money, sell assets, receive from family...I get all that..but that happens because parents make a choice but, trust me, rich or poor, the money part of the equation is being considered!

My parents paid for all 4 years of my college at a small liberal arts university, with only about a 1/3 of my tuition being covered by an academic scholarship. I had two roommates in college that were in the exact same situation. A good chunk of my friends in high school didn't take out any student loans either (I went to high school and college in Pennsylvania...). All of our families did well, but none of us were what I would call "rich kids". If I was an elite wrestler my parents would have been happy to pay more to help the team. They had already earmarked that money for college over the previous 18 years. Plenty of families don't have the resources to do this, but quite a few do. I'm always amazed how shocked this board is to hear a kid took 20% less to chase the dream. Plenty of families can afford to do that.

Part of Penn State's advantage is being in an area of the country with more wealth than Iowa. More recruits in that part of the country come from families that certainly care about money, but have the resources to comfortably cover the difference. The amount of money is everything to some and very little to others.

Sure it is by why do you think Mejia is coming to Iowa for way less than he could have if he stayed home at Fresno State? Almost timing for him when FSU started up again. Probably less than a half hour from his house. I remember money being an issue with Mr. Mejia, too.

Plus, four years of Prep School at Blair is comparable to college costs for a family of means. Let's face it, he is giving up an education from one of the finest academic institutions in the country to go to tOSU or PSU. He's not going because of the academics.
