It's the University president and AD's job to secure NIL funding. Schools successful with NIL, begin with the president and AD!

If they fail, the sports programs will fail because the best teams in football and basketball are aggressive and successful in the portal. There are some very wealthy alumni from UI. The pres and AD must cultivate those relationships and explain the role of NIL. Then have them get their friggin' check books out!

It really only makes sense for the president to act in support of NIL if it's going to make the school more desirable for students (and in turn help generate revenue for academic/research programs).

I believe there's an argument it does exactly this.

Successful NIL programs have one or two sugar daddies (or mommies) that provide millions to the fund. There just aren't enough regular people in the fan base that can donate small amounts to raise enough money to compete with the whales that some schools get to fund them. And the people who have the best ability to get those sugar daddies (or mommies) to donate would be the President and AD. Those rich people aren't going to answer the phone for anyone else.

Something has to change or Iowa is going to end up being a cellar dweller in the new Big Ten.

Football has the chance to be decent. Men’s basketball seems like a pipe dream at this point. The fan interest and support just aren’t there.
