Anyone know when Rock is visiting? He had to reschedule his last one but have not heard an update. Thanks in advance.

JT is apparently a Minnesota fan and Wisconsin is pursuing according to a chance encounter with his aunt at a picnic in Sioux Falls earlier this summer. I didn't ask about Iowa. That's my "inside" info. Joe Krabbenhoft is probably all over this kid.

We’ll I don’t like the sound of that but thanks for passing along…

I read in another story that JT and his parents are big Hawk fans. I am calling BS on the chance encounter.

ISU has been recruiting him for a long time. Freitag and Rock are probably the two #1 targets for ISU in '24, it will be interesting to see how those shake out.

What do you mean by ISU? The previous and current staff? Or just the current staff?

You mean like the way he was all over Gatens when they played?

Coming on the cusp of 3 straight years with a player of the year candidate (or winner), I would have thought that you would be less jilted!
Seen weird, statistically improbably things happen at the perfect time to just pound us back down.

But, all curses end. It's starting to look like that may be happening. However, I have ridden the highs and lows of Hawkeye heroin for decades. You get enough highs to keep you shooting up but, in the end, more downers.

I would think no news is bad news.
Man, some of y'all are the most impatient people I know. Rock is a '24 kid. Want to know how many '24 kids in Rival's top 125 have committed? 6 and one of them is a Hawkeye.

We are way early in the process here and as other's have posted, he came on an unofficial visit late last week. There's simply nothing else to report--I would guess that Iowa tries to get him back this fall for an official visit during a football game, we'll see if that happens.

It should be widely known that making it through year 13, is a "sword in the stone" moment, for the Iowa coach that does it. The curse will be lifted, and the best players in the country would start recruiting Fran. Maybe he will want to rest his best players until the the first weekend of the NCAA Tourney is over. It's the noble thing to do.

Thank you for some actual facts and an actually valuable rational perspective.

I would take a four-star or a good three star who stays for four years and graduates over a one and done five star any day all day

All such players are going to play in the league, so I’d much rather have them truly be part of the family rather than just use the program as a quick steppingstone.

NIL is just a quick cash out and players that jump for that stuff are not doing what is best for themselves medium or long term. They need to be thinking about the entirety of their career and life.

Iowa’s recruiting continues to improve and Iowa has the talent on campus, as well as committed to the program, to keep them perennial Big Ten powers and peroneal contenders for deep runs in the NCAA tournament.

But in this family-focused program, they do it clean, they do it right, they focus on personal development, and empowering each player to be successful professionally, and even more importantly, personally as men and in life.

And that’s beautiful.

Go Hawks!

According to the Cyclone Insider, Nick Ossen, he thinks Iowa State is in the best position to land him as they are the best fit and have the best relationship with him to this point. Heard him say that on Miller and Condon.... :)

Big surprise I know.....

Are we really a perennial league power?

Same question for "peroneal (sic) contenders for deep runs in the NCAA Tournament?"

Really...?

Of course he did!

Real
Yes, these comments sounded like a bit of "kool-aid" drinking, but then that is part of what these boards are for!

The comment by that poster that they would rather have a player for four years rather than a one and done for one year seems to fail to recognize that scholarship could be used for another player when the one and done leaves. Would Hawk fans rather not have had Keegan since he wasn't with Iowa for 4 years? I don't think so. On the other hand, I love the players that stay at a school for their whole career as we as fans get to know them better and feel closer to them even if we don't interact with them personally.

Also, every kid that takes a lucrative NIL deal hasn't necessarily done something not good for their long term. They like the genius of the "AND" versus the tyranny of the "OR" meaning if they have a car and cash while in college, like the school and their teammates, AND get the big pro contract, where did they go wrong even if we as fans feel we missed out on something.

I haven't seen anything on a Cyclone sight that says they think they will get him. I believe he has had multiple visits to ISU's campus (not sure how many) and TJ has a relationship that dates back to his time in SD, so they likely do feel good at the moment. However, it is WAY to early to call where he will end up, especially if he ends up as a 5 star and the world comes calling. Reading his comments from interviews I haven't seen him tip his hand anywhere, but rather speaks highly of Iowa, ISU, Wisconsin and even heard a comment on Purdue in one interview. Who is best fit? THAT is very subjective, but I bet all the schools recruiting him think no one is likely a better fit than they are.

Yes, we are now. The last two years most obviously. Everyone wrote off the team before last season after the loss of Garza and Joe. Team did even better than the previous year.

Iowa's not had as much talent on the roster and committed to play in decades. Fans and parents and players LOVE Fran, LOVE the family, LOVE the future of this program.

Depends on how you define "perennial league power". If you are saying a threat to win it every year that might be a bit of a stretch. On the other hand if you are saying regular upper division finish, then yes it fits. Perennial contenders for a deep run in the NCAA tourney seems a bit of a stretch. They are regularly in the tourney so you could argue all in the tourney have a chance for a deep run, yet having not gotten past the first weekend for years makes your statement seem a bit of hyperbole. I don't discount that the recruiting seems to have picked up with more talent committed.

Trust me, I feel the same way. I just found it mildly humourous that he would say this as I felt it was way too early to make too many conclusions about his recruitment.

A program that has been to one sweet sixteen in 35 years (24 years ago) is a perennial contender for deep tourney runs? Fran's average tourney seed is 7, btw.

That does not scream perennial contender for deep runs to me. lol

If you asked 100 random basketball fans to name the Big Ten's perennial league powers, do you really think Iowa makes a lot of lists?

Really?

Our program hasn't won a Big Ten title in 44 years but you're contending we should be listed with MSU, Michigan, Purdue, Wisconsin, Ohio State ...etc....?

Joe Biden says c'mon, man....

Good thing that what the team was like 10 and 20 years ago isn’t what the team is like now or recently, or what the trend shows for the future.

There has been steady, even dramatic improvement and teams over the last several years.

Iowa has the talent on its roster and committed to the program to be perennial contenders. I don’t think what I said is controversial in anyway. Or overly optimistic. Iowa has also been putting players into the league at an impressive clip over the last couple of years. Any and every trend imaginable backs up my points.

Recruits are looking toward the future. They look at the commits already on board and they look at the coaching staff and they look at the record of recent success especially.

The last 6 years or so our average offensive efficiency rank is in the Top 10, and we've had a string of top division finishes in the B10 too, and now one B10 tournament championship.

I realize the NCAA matters most to many, but a bigger barometer of how well you've built your program is the regular season, and Iowa has been super competitive in arguably the best basketball conference over the last 5 years or so, and for the next few years too it appears.
