I honestly think we have a chance at a 5 seed or better in the NCAA Tournament this season & moving forward.

We know that Fran develops players. What's interesting is that he is landing better players now; let's see what he can do with them.

This year should be an NCAA Tournament team.

Looking to the future:

2023-2024 Roster (12 on Scholarship; 1 scholarship available):

FRESHMEN: 3 players

6"10" C Owen Freeman

6'0" PG Brock Harding

6'7" PF Pryce Sandfort

SOPHOMORES: 2 players

6'3" PG Dasonte Bowen

6'5" SG Josh Dix

JUNIORS: 2 players

6'7" F Payton Sandfort

6'11" C Riley Mulvey

SENIORS: 5 players

6'4" G Tony Perkins

6'2" G Ahron Ulis

6'8" F Kris Murray

6'9" SF Patrick McCaffery

6'11" C Josh Ogundele

4 Notable Walk on players:

SENIORS: 1 player

Dante Eldridge -- walk on

JUNIORS: 1 player

Luc Laketa-- preferred walk on

SOPHOMORES: 2 players

Carter Kingsbury-- preferred walk on

Amarion Nimmers-- preferred walk on
Kris Murray won't be a senior at Iowa. He'll be a rookie somewhere else.

So dumb.

One of the purposes of having a national tournament which includes the best teams from the various conferences with different styles and competitio levels etc., is to have a way of crowning a single champion without involving media etc. The other purpose is money making spectacle (because, after all, a single elimination tournament is a terrible way of determining the best team -- cf., NBA playoffs).

I guarantee you that the underlying rationale for establishing the Big Ten Tournament was not because the conference was having trouble determining which team should actually be crowned conference champion. The best conference record over the course of a season is a pretty cut and dried, time tested methodology. lol

The reason for the BTT was and is a money grab. TV, ticket, and merch money plus the off chance of getting one more conference team into the big dance which otherwise wouldn't have earned an at large bid.

If you want to refer to the winner of a weekend tourney as the "conference champ", knock yourself out. You're not hurting anything but your own credibility. Just understand that the conference itself makes sure to distinguish between the regular season and conference tournament champions. Because they are, in fact, two very different things.
If all the teams played the same conference schedule, you might have a point. Since all teams have different schedules, the only way (not a perfect way) to determine the champion is a tournament or for football, a championship game.

Yup, that's why the team ranked number 1 prior to the NCAA Basketball Tournament is always the national champion, right? Oh wait...

😉

I like Kris too, but he's a long way from showing he's gonna be NBA ready in 9 months.
Well he is already projected as a first round draft pick and he could have received a 2nd round offer this year had he chosen to to take it. I think I heard nearly these exact same statements from people on this forum regarding Keegan's NBA readiness at this time last year.

The big ten tourney champ is a different thing. Iowa has not won an actual (regular season) big ten championship since 1979, and that wasn’t outright. Iowa tied with MSU that year. Alford also tried to spin his tourney championship as a big ten title, and it’s just not.

There are two Big Ten championships in BBall. The regular season champion has a more mythical nature, bragging rights and recruiting advantage. But, in terms of practical effect it only determines the top seed for the tournament.

The NCAA considers the tourney winner as the "official" Big Ten champ for NCAA qualifications purposes.

Winning the tournament is great, it guarantees an NCAA qualification. I'd like to see another regular season champ. The conference ****ed us hard in 81, 87 and 88, and maybe one of those Settles teams before his injury. Now there are newer and shinier franchises in the Big Ten. Expansion is not aimed at making the little schools/small budgets more competitive, to be sure.
