They know the quick pass is coming on the blitz and the pass defenders giving too much cushion.

And why has Castro forgotten how to tackle???

Sometimes it is harder to tackle that quicker shifty athlete like the MSU receivers

Castro has an NFL future.

And this isn't the first time this year where he forgot how to tackle.

Something is wrong.

Tonite was just another colossal failure which we've come to expect all too often.

The gum chewer still gets paid, tho.

Give UCLA some credit too. They are an improving team with some excellent players and good team speed. We were down to the 4th string qb, and Sullivan played poorly before he was injured. I don’t know why our defense seems to forget how to tackle this season and the way the O-line got manhandled was certainly unexpected.

Opponents with 'team speed' have been the Hawkeye's Achilles heel for years.
Didn't really face it in the 70's style B10 West opponents, but when we got outside that retro division we have been embarrassed.
Unfortunately, we can't 'develop' team speed.
Ya can't fix slow

I know our problem last nite! Game was tied and near the end Kirk stopped chewing his gum. It looked like he had completely stopped chewing. That explains it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL

Yes, especially in the first half I was yelling at our players thru the TV to wrap up, use your arms and tackle lower around the waist and legs. We were tackling high with no arms and just trying to knock runners down rather than tackle.

ucla got a ton of yards after contact because of this and it hurts when a 2 yard first down run becomes 2nd and 4.

Oh well, and we lose a lot of defensive experience and talent so I would guess next year's defense will be a bit worse to start off with otherwise those 2nd teamers now would be starting

This. Our defense looked like Nebraska’s defense under Frost and they have most of the year.

Hopefully, next year's starters have an attitude!

Last nite wasn't an aberration. They've played complacent most of the season.
Realistically, they haven't beaten a good team yet, unless you want to call Minnesota good. And Minnesota hasn't beaten a good team either.

I think they thought they were going to come into the Rose Bowl and push around a 3-5 team. They got their heads knocked in instead. I will give UCLA credit though as they are better than their record indicates. Playing much better as the season goes along. Iowa, hit or miss all season.

Oh, and Stratton is ten times better than CM. But we continue to hear CM gives us the best chance to win. WTF is KF smoking?

I missed the game and don’t have a ton of interest in watching dvr. How bad is sully’s injury? And what did you like about Stratton?
OMG stop with the injury bullsheet. Please people, stop being gullible. It'll help you when making choices in November every 2 years.

The issue is KF spent $500k and earned a suspension recruiting CM.

Not a great ROI.

Stratton represents a guy that Lester found on a trip to look at quarterbacks. Kirk has said he can really throw and had a good fall camp. We saw a little of that last night and just that one bad throw to Buie stalled out that last drive. He also showed he can move when needed as well. Anxious to hear more about Sullivan as well but I would guess with the bye week he will heal up.

Stratton actually showed promise last night especially for a guy who has never taken 1 snap with the 1st team. With time to work with the 1st team he would be as good as anybody currently on the team at QB.

Well, the good news is the coaches have gotten to see a couple QB's in game action. Looks like we finally have some good competition in the QB room. As I have said about the entire team, 9 months or so until fall camp, let the competition begin. Lester might just turn that room around in a year!!!

Guess that whole "hard to learn the offense" thing has been a smoke screen for sticking with the upper classmen. Who knew?
