Jackson

I'd be surprised because he needs more game film to improve his draft status IMO.
I can understand why some guaranteed 1st round draft picks would do this, but I think Jacksons draft status improves with more games played. If he goes pro this year I know it is only one more game but he is not in a position for pro teams to give him the benefit of the doubt. I also don't think he will do that because it does not seem like the MO of this hawkeye team

He's projected first round, of course he goes after seeing D King go from Thorpe winner/first round pick to Fifth round and 32 db's taken before him a year later.

Josh will make enough money he can finish his degree after football if he won't have his degree in December or May of 18.

Pretty sure this would be the first bowl game Jackson actually gets to play in (I don't know if he saw spot time in some of the previous debacles we've had). I'm betting he stays, if anything because it is his first bowl game he will be the starter in.

I'm pretty sure he was, but I can't remember if that was a real thing or something somebody posted on this board.

Here is one of many articles about Des projected as a first rounder after the '15 season....

https://www.blackheartgoldpants.com...-listed-as-first-round-pick-in-nfl-mock-draft

But he decided to come back his senior year to get his degree due this request by his Mother.

Honestly, not making this stuff up, BFN!
I believe King said the NFL draft advisory board told him to go back. The NFL draft advisory gives three grades a 1st round grade, a second round grade, and a go back to school grade.

It's possible he would've gone a round or two earlier but he was not going to be a first round pick because of his height and running in the 4.5s...Now interestingly enough most of the D backs in NFL run 4.5 and over and one thing I never saw anyone mention about King, was the fact that his neck is exceptionally short. It seems to me like with a normal size neck he would've been about 6-1 and he obviously had very long arms. It was a big miss by the draft people but not anything that hasn't happened 1000 times before!

Jackson is taller, longer and faster, the only thing with him is sometimes the draft guys get nervous about one year phenoms so there is that to contend with.

Not his fault he was playing behind 2 seniors that are now in the nfl.
It's not like he played poorly for 2 years then all the sudden had a good year.

If you leave early you get no respect from me... honor your commitment or I'll call you out... tired of these egotistical leaches skimming money from Athletic coffers than bolting for an early payday. You play till you graduate 4 years...

he does graduate this year.... what are you talking about?
so if they redshirt they should have to stay for 5 years?
ok.....

btw these leeches are pretty much FORCED to play college football!

Yes advisory board I couldn't think of that anyway them projection articles are a joke scouts and GM are not going to say a word to media about draft picks.

Agreed, in fact totally agree and it's my belief Iowa has several other pretty good cornerbacks on the roster but that does sometimes affect draft status!

I will say King was very good and doing well in the NFL but Jackson just really looks the part and I have know doubt he is leaving because he seems very mature and has a great future ahead of him.

Sorry but this post is just absurd!
ncaa basically forces them to play for 3 years while paying them nothing and you think the players are egotistical leeches?
That is nuts.....

He'll leave with his degree in hand. He's under no obligation to come back for a 5th year.

King was never a first round projection.

Paying them nothing? Get real. Take into account everything they get for free. They make plenty.

Why his post was absurd. Let's not say they are paid nothing. They get a free, $100K education and many other perks including a stipend.

Because what choice do they have but go to college for 3 years?
They could have made 100x that in the first 2-3 years if they were allowed to enter the draft before the 3 year mark! To call them "egotistical leaches skimming money from Athletic coffers" for not wanting to waste a 4th year there.....that is insane! They did their time!

Yeah, I'm not disagreeing with any of that. Never did. I'm disagreeing with "while paying them nothing"

"practically nothing", compared to what they could be earning.
especially when they probably never get their degree

OK.I'm just going to end it here. Yes most players do get their degree. Even the ones that leave early.

And compared to what they could be earning? What does that even mean? Do you think they'd earn more than that if paid? Iowa's total athletic department brought in $100 million last year. Even if I take the 85 guys on football scholarship and pay them even? that's what a million bucks a player.

But, an athletic department has far more athletes and far more expenses, coaches, training staff, supllies, utilities, paying guards at the gate and ticket keepers etc.? Seems to me the education is about what they would earn.

I suspect that some debating players getting paid more than a scholarship are UI grads or current students who are taught socialism and as socialists feel all athletes should share equally in all the income those athletes generate. Lots of Bernie Sanders believers here at Iowa.

Yes, I agree....when a $4million/yr coach breaks his employment contract and takes a better coaching opportunity, no problem. Jackson from modest upbringing has chance to win the lottery and that is not okay? I'm going to miss seeing him play for us, but darned if he didn't earn his money with his skills/hard work/athleticism.
