Jan 10 Injury Updates: Drew QUESTIONABLE vs IU; Koch was hospitalized? Traore is 100% (bad ankle sprain on Nov 26; was SUPPOSED to be back by Dec 10)

Fran used the word “flare up” when talking about Thelwell, but it sounds like he practiced all week. He was dressed for the game, but had a huge limp when moving around.

You’d think Fran would be getting tired of these comments. - we hear them from opponents usually a couple of times per season.

Fran emphasizes not turning the ball over like crazy; he likes no more than 11 per game

I will never understand why Fran does not emphasize rebounding because, obviously, when you rebound the ball, you possess the ball. And you can only score if you possess the ball. And we know Fran likes offense. ;)

Tbf, in previous years they’ve usually been within sight of at least breaking even on the boards.

Was it you or someone else that did some digging about iowas defense actually being solid when defending the first shot, but it’s that 2nd and 3rd shot that’s really killing the defensive analytics?

it would have been someone else bringing up 2nd and 3rd shots

I do know that second chance points off of offensive rebounds have been killing us (cost us in the Clown U game, for sure)

full text of tweet:

Drew on playing against Indiana: “I will be ready to go, and I will be juiced”.

Twice he said he was going to play. Great interview.

Team replayed and chatted about McGee viral clip about Iowa's defense, they know they need to change and have mindset to want it more than the other team every night.

I see what you did there. Excellent!

Good story previewing the IU game.

Some excerpts:

Drew Thelwell could be available for Iowa basketball’s matchup with Indiana on Saturday. Freshman Cooper Koch will not be, according to coach Fran McCaffery.

Thelwell did not play in Tuesday's overtime win over Nebraska due to a “lingering lower leg” injury.

Asked Thursday if he expects Thelwell to play against Indiana, McCaffery said: “I do. But I really have no basis to say that from a medical standpoint. It’s really dependent on how he feels. We’ll just be really smart with how we use him these next two days (Thursday and Friday) and try to get him ready.”

Koch, who has already been unavailable for four games this season, is dealing with an undisclosed health issue. His absence is a hit to Iowa’s depth. The freshman averages 4.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per contest while shooting 42.9% from deep.

McCaffery said seeking a medical redshirt for Koch is a possibility.

“It’s not been easy for him,” McCaffery said. “I really feel for him because he’s a wonderful kid and a really good player. We could really use him and he desperately wants to be out there. But we’re on top of his health situation, which is the most important thing.”

Why are you posting this ten times in different spots? Is your ultimate goal to have every thread on the board started by you?

Switching subjects a little, does anyone know the status of Reneau, (maybe IU's most talented player and IU's other big man besides Ballo) for the game Saturday? Ballo is a monster and will be a handful, but if the Hawks can get IU with Reneau out, that would be a huge break. If it is only Ballo in the middle, I hope Iowa posts up Freeman early and often to try to get Ballo on the bench. If not, Owen might be the one on the bench.
