JBo Replacement? Jack Nolan (WashU)

I can see the value in an upperclassman shooter if all of Wieskamp, Bohannon, and Garza leave (Fredrick, Sandfort, Murray’s are really all that’s left), but if this guy spends any amount of time running point guard with Toussaint and Ulis as other options, I’ll be physically ill

Better free throw % than JBo. Same high school and just a year behind Kathleen Doyle. Have her put in a good word (if it's allowed).

Seriously? The guy is D3. I’d give him a walk on spot to help the scout team, but he would get destroyed in the Big Ten regularly. His shooting percentages are good but not insanely great. Imagine what they’d be with an nba caliber player guarding him. If Joe W leaves early, we need another shooter, but I’m pretty sure we can find an available transfer with D1 experience and skills. The mid-majors are stacked with them.

I agree. Iowa needs to stop thinking in terms of "JBo clones" and start trying to find an impact guard who can score off the dribble.

I, like all of us, have no say in this but I would much rather roll the dice with the guys we already have than go hunting for grad transfers. Especially ones that could be question marks on defense.

I am really excited to see what Toussaint, Frederick, Ulis, Perkins and Sandfort can do.

It's a careful balance, for sure. But take a look at Michigan - they brought in two transfers who are absolute difference makers.

Who should I trust in evaluating this guy? Coaches from Iowa, Stanford and Oregon State... or internet poster? Hmm...

At this point, Ulis, JT, and Perkins are non-shooters and that is an issue.
17 of 18 from the line is pretty good for a "non-shooter"....maybe you should give the freshmen a chance to play real minutes before judging. Connor is a non shooter and he plays around 30 a game

I don't think we need a JBo replacement.

Honestly, I'd rather they convince CJ to shoot about 8-10 threes per game. Between him, the Murrays and Nunge, that's enough shooters if they can get Ulis, Perkins and JT to drive effectively and under control.

They need another big, though. Even if just for the reassurance of not having just two.

It is not a foregone conclusion that Wieskamp will turn
pro after this season. He could get better with another
year at Iowa. He would be the MAN next season.

Nonsense. His stock will never be higher and he will improve more next year playing against pros as his full time job than he would dominating Iowas bench guards every day in practice while wasting his time taking classes. He’s a 3 point specialist at the next level, he won’t improve that at all coming back. He’d be crazy not to go pro and has a decent chance to be a late 2nd rounder with his combination of size and lights out 3 point shooting. Joe Harris is a great comparison of what he could turn into, and he’s already surpassed what he did at Virginia.

We haven't seen the best of Ahron yet but from what I've seen, he doesn't turn the ball over much.
I think he has been very good in his on court time. JT is the o ly one I am slightly disappointed in and that is strictly from not advancing much this year. Hr needs to shoot a 1000 jump shots a day for a year and continue to work on his dribble drive. If he can shoot above 30% from 3 they will not be able to stop his drives.
Even a half step closer to him and they have no chance.
This would open the middle back up for someone doing a lot of dunking.
