Jeff Moes kid transferring to Iowa City

Jeff Moe is why I’m an Iowa fan. 1987 on the road against Purdue. Marble left the game early with a scratched eye. Dirty Doug Lee hit a 3 to give Purdon’t the lead in the 2nd half. Moe answered right back with a 3 pointer from the corner. Purdue fans were flipping him off as he ran back on defense. Moe was returning the bird and screaming at the crowd. I was hooked. That was the same week that Iowa was ranked #1 for the first and only time. Until this Monday of course!!!!!!!!

Any further backstory? Work related move at all, for Jeff or his wife, or simply centered around Pete's basketball future? I assume Indiana, of all places, hasn't cancelled HS basketball because of Covid ;)

What impact has Liberty had athletic-wise on West (and city to some extent)?

Acie has been all over. Not sure where he is.

I, too, was surprised to see that Barnes' kid is at West.

Earl couldn’t live further from West high and still live in Iowa City if he tried. Last I knew he was living on the eastern edge of town. Two of his daughters were/are playing for City high. Not sure why his son is at West. I have no idea where Barnes lives in the area but I was under the impression he was in Coralville.

Glad to see City get the win, I coached a lot of the current senior players at City when they were younger and though they’re not loaded with high level talent they’re very competent and able players. Through middle school and early high school they rarely lost games to anyone. Unfortunately after this year I don’t think there’s much coming in to fill their places though.

Moe and Earl’s kids are legit prospects. Shame they didn’t go to the school that leads.

Jeff Moe could score for sure but man was he a hound dog on defense. My memory could be playing tricks but IIRC he sported a black eye / face bruise or two c/o of an opponent's elbow but didn't ever back off. Wasn't the quickest by any means but hustled his ass off. Those teams he was on had some attitude.

Moe was a favorite of mine in that era. He was our version of Scott Skiles and toughness was his calling card. If Pete stays on track I could see Fran bringing him into the Black and Gold fold.

We are getting there. We have lost some kids to West for a variety of reasons but it really depends on the sport. For boys basketball, Liberty is starting to get there. My argument is that Liberty has the deepest talent but maybe not the best players in the area.

It's frustrating when kids end up leaving, some for VERY legit reasons- Liberty has to fix some problems, for West because it's been hard to build some programs but our volleyball, softball and baseball programs came fully loaded.

As always, I'm trying to be careful what I say because I have certainly revealed too much in the past! However, Earl's kid has no business playing for West. I believe he has a daughter playing for City right now. Certainly did a few years ago.

Jeff Moe was a veritable Winston Churchill of shit talkers, and Winston was the best shit talker in history. I'm guessing Jeff taunted Frieder-who was a dick. Kent Hill, Roy Marble and Ed Horton and of course Jeff Moe said hilarious stuff on the court.

So...is the kid not a D-1 prospect or did he score 41 against City?

Acie will sell your house, teach you hoops one on one, and give you a goddamn energy drink at the end.

He's equal opportunistic
