Yes....THAT Jimmy Collins. Long time Illinois assistant BB coach to Lou Henson....reportedly, the man with the car keys for Deonne Thomas passed away last week after undergoing heart surgery in November. Only a couple of folks know what really happened with the recruitment of Thomas but guaranteed Collins and Bruce Pearl did not exchange Christmas cards after the affair.
I was fortunate to watch Collins play ball for Henson at New Mexico State decades ago...the guy was a bonafide AA for Lou. He played professionally a few years and then joined Henson at Champaign as his assistant coach. He later went to U of Illinois-Chicago as head BB coach and got them into a NCAA Tournament a couple of times.
