JJ gets paid!!

Nice payday. Pity though, as a 1st Rounder he'd command $10-12 million 4-year contract. No worries ~ he'll make 'em pay in 48 months!

Not too shabby of a sign on bonus either!

Here's how second-round pick Josh Jackson's contract with the Packers, signed Thursday, breaks down:
Total: Four years, $6,256,100
Signing bonus: $2,629,892
Total guarantees: $3,109,892
Base salaries: $480,000 (2018), $764,368 (2019), $1,048,736 (2020),...

lol.. exactly.. I just forget when I am rooting for the Packers that they don’t exist in cheese dick land.. I have been only to Madison for Iowa Pissconsin games otherwise it’s a dumpy state, however I hear northern Wisconsin is beautiful like Eagle River and (can’t remember the exact name and spelling) I think it’s called Minocqua, WI?
Minocqua

QUOTE="Dick Rambone, post: 5388192, member: 90548"]Packers kind of like them some Hawkeyes . If that city wasn't in Wisconsin I might actually be a fan .[/QUOTE]

I’ll never get over how professional football players make peanuts compared to the other major professional sports leagues, when it is by far the most dangerous sport (both short-term and long-term effects). I understand that the rosters are way bigger, so there are more guys to pay. It just seems kind of wrong to me that one of the most highly drafted rookies is only going to make $3m guaranteed over 4 years, knowing all the risks involved...

A 2nd round pick isn't a highly drafted rookie.

And go look at Hockey. Those guys get their asses beat daily versus what NFL players go through.

Hyde and Hitchens made way less than this for 4 years and was able to cash in big time.
I do understand it's a risk but with hard work
And a little luck I'm guessing Jackson and Jewell will be much richer in a few years.

I don't know any Soldiers or Cops who make $2 Million a year and I think their risk is in another stratosphere compared to a Football player.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg. Don't ever feel sorry for a Professional Athlete, it's a complete waste of sympathy.

Josh is worth every penny he is being paid. Packers also signed their other DB Alexander from Louisville. Both of these guys will see plenty of action in the 2018 season. Go Packers!

First of all, like 23 so far said, feeling sorry for professional athletes is an amazingly irrational emotion. Not a single professional athlete gives a crap about you. Bumpstock had the topper - calling JJ's modest guaranteed pay a "pity."

Second, I'm not sure where you come up with the pay comparison.

Look at players that go in the baseball draft. The very top draft choices get signing bonuses of about $7 million these days, but by the end of the first round it's typically <$2 million. After that, those players aren't guaranteed jack sh*t and are paid essentially minimum wage while in the minors (usually 3 years minimum). When they finally reach the majors, no matter their star quality, they get paid about the league minimum (~$ 1/2 million) for their first 3 seasons, and don't sniff 7 figures until after that. Even then, they could go another 3 arbitration years before getting any multi-year guarantee.

So, with a $3 million guarantee, JJ has already made as much money as a very successful 2018 2nd round baseball draft choice will make over the next 7-9 years.

When I first saw this thread topic a few days ago, I wondered which JJ coz those initials have been bountifully good for iowa FB in recent times.
