Good luck OP, hopefully just a very brief experience. File for unemployment benefits.
I was forced to resign. In retrospect, it was an amazing opportunity. I have a better job, I run the whole damn company, make more money, have fun and kind co-workers and escaped a toxic shit show. I empathize with you but don't give up on a better gig. You will find it. If you are financially stable, take some time off, relax, find a hobby, watch Price is Right like I did and come back when you are ready. Sorry to hear my friend. So my company was closing which I knew but my boss just told me he's laying me off and paying me for this week and the next. Said he couldn't afford to keep paying people while shutting down and gave me a letter of recommendation. Also got a letter about being laid off so I could apply for unemployment.
I was given the impression that I had months left when he told me he was closing up to retire. Didn't really give a good answer IMO as to why everything moved up so fast.
The previous interview he set me up didn't come through so I'm officially unemployed once I leave work for the day.
Small division 8 subcontractor. Doors and Hardware, Glass and Glazing. I worked in glass and glazing with one of the owners. Basically was a combination of a CAD Tech/Project Admin/Estimator.
Oddly enough the owner advised me that I should look outside of glass and glazing because he doesn't think business is that good right now. I'm not sure how true that is though, he stopped quoting a lot of jobs.
That said there arn't a ton of places to go either. He set me up on an interview with a much larger competitor (If you could call it that as we only competed on the largest jobs for us which for that company were probably small jobs) and that didn't work out. He said he tried to get other companies to interview me but none bit.
Nearest other company in the industry is like an hour away via interstate. I may try and see if they have any openings, but I don't particularly want to drive an hour to work and back every day if I can avoid it.
Can you buy it from them?Family company and yes that's correct. It's shutting down so the owners can retire.
Fine with that. Wish I would have had more notice. I was told 3 weeks ago we were shutting down but was given the impression I'd have months.
You couldn't afford my foodOpen a food truck like @McLovin32 did
I don't eat at places that don't provide ketchup. You couldn't afford my food
Good idea. I know a guy in Decorah who does that and he makes good money, plus you’re restoring pieces of history. He’s the only guy in NE Iowa that does it so he gets lots of business. If you have a historic home neighborhood near you, restoring old wood windows could be a good business. This guy in Tampa teaches everything you need to know

Good because we don't serve anyone that eats ketchup. So that works well.I don't eat at places that don't provide ketchup.
Sorry to hear this @Hoosierhawkeye I hope you find a much better job soon!I'm the sole breadwinner so not much cash flow, although there are a few things I can do to make some money here and there.
Only debt I have is a few thousand on my student loan I havn't paid off. I could have paid it off for a long time but kind didn't so I had the money as a backup. Glad I did. At this point that's about 2 months income.
I'm going to leave a yelp review that you used to small of slice and now my stomach is completely f*cked.Good because we don't serve anyone that eats ketchup. So that works well.
I just got tagged by IAFB in the Zelensky caving thread. Can't wait to see what that's about!I'm going to leave a yelp review that you used to small of slice and now my stomach is completely f*cked.
That is a path to THC addiction - beware!Open a food truck like @McLovin32 did

super sorry to hear this Hoosier. Keep your head up. You will land in your feet.
Side note: @NoWokeBloke what exactly is so funny about Hoosiers situation to you? What f is wrong with you? No empathy whatsoever.
I did more commercial stuff and the glazing part was done by others.
My dad does have a carpentry business he is doing that I could get some hours in at. I'm not sure how many. Certainly not full time hours.
I think the biggest issue for me right now is that I have to look for a job which is something that I know I'm just not very good at. I also hate it with a passion because I feel like it's 90% bullshitting. I have no problem with the "do my skills line up with what you need" part, it's the "Where do you see yourself in 5 years" and "Why do you want to work here" questions that are BS. I want to work there to work in exchange for money. But I'm not suppose to say that, I'm suppose to pretend like working at the company is going to feed into some higher aspiration of my life and that I'd still want to work there even if I didn't need the income.
I've reached the opinion that some of these folks are just scum of the earth. NoWokeBloke definitely fits that profile.super sorry to hear this Hoosier. Keep your head up. You will land in your feet.

@NoWokeBloke is a piece of shit. I don’t normally think people should get a real ban hammer (that’s what the ignore function is for), but I wouldn’t be sad if he went the way of NC and had to create 100 different usernames and just react to the posts.super sorry to hear this Hoosier. Sorry about that. At my last position, in South Carolina, management of our plant started bailing out as the parent company started moving people in from a plant in Ohio, so it became a matter of when and not if. I probably should have waited to get the notice but I really disliked many of the people with whom I had to work. Whereas before, I actually enjoyed 99% of the people before upper management stupidity took hold.So my company was closing which I knew but my boss just told me he's laying me off and paying me for this week and the next.
