Just saw Star Wars

How did Princess Leia look and is she still royal? How the heck does society progress to that state and still think special blood lines should be in charge of whole planets? Doesn't seem realistic. The rest is totally believable.
Because she's the best diplomat/general in the resistance? She was important before ANH.

Ah hell...DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVENT SEEN IT

Uhhhh...why didn't they just take the map out of the droid and let him get caught? Pretty obvious and simple solution. But I digress.
Because the droid doesn't have human tendencies that can be exploited through torture. The droid will lock that up and make the 1st order take it apart if they find it.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, just saw it. It was really good in a lot of ways but also really bad as well. Normally I can overlook a movies flaws and enjoy it for what it is. That being said, it was a lot of little things that really bugged me. For example, how ridiculously easy it was for them to get the shield for the entire planet shut down and captain Phasma just turning it off for them. I'm not sure what the point of Phasma even was in this movie, completely worthless character. Then the light saber fight scene with Kylo, the dude is trained to fight with a light saber and two people with zero light saber experience are able to not only fight him effectively but the chick actually defeats him. I know he was injured but that shouldn't off set their zero saber experience. The plot of the movie just felt extremely lazy and it felt like they just took a new hope and threw in a few wrinkles. What I did like were the characters, especially Finn. I would say it is much better than episodes 1-3, but not better than 4-7. Overall I enjoyed the movie and will watch it many more times.
Rey had some training with a staff, clearly, after beating the hell out of those guys who tried to take the droid, and she was beginning to discover her abilities. Plus, Ren's saber was far from perfect, whereas she was using Luke's.

Also, did you guys know James Bond was the mind tricked Storm Trooper?

I thought this movie was very similar to Episode IV, in many ways, and far superior to the prequels.

It was good. Right up there with A New Hope and Empire. Dialogue and new characters were what made it good. Mixed in old characters well and laid things out foe the next 2 installments. Like that JJ used sets, models and costumes versus just CGI. Had an authentic feel. Fun movie that makes you want more. My kids (13 and 11) loved it and we're on the edge of their seats several times during the film and are still talking about it hours later. Good 1st attempt by JJ... looking forward to the rest of the films.

I would rank it right up there with Empire and Return of Jedi maybe not better but close.

It was super annoying in my theater the audience would clap anytime a main character showed up.
That's what they do in
SW movies when first shown, and part of the fun. If you didn't like it you should have waited to go see it.

Hopefully Rian Johnson (Looper 2012) can direct the next two up to par with this one. He's been contracted for Episode VIII and IX

Is JJ making these movies for the foreseeable future?

Edit, never mind I got to millah's post.

Um. Finn got his ass handed to him 2 times. So not sure what you mean by him being able to go toe to toe. I think Rey was getting her ass kicked as well, until she used the force.

I have no problem with your other gripe but if you say that about this movie then you have to say it about 4 and 6 because they were able to get shields down and destroy 2 Death Stars pretty easily.

Basically I think you're reaching and reaching pretty far.
Um, sorry but you're way off. Finn did lose the fight but not until he basically went toe to toe with a fully trained Jedi knight or equivalent, and The Rey situation, they both have access to the force. Why would her access to it trump his? I'm not reaching at all. If you can't see these flaws, you're just blinded by your fandom.

Daisey Ridley is one of those chicks that are hotter when not dressed up. I thought she was hot as hell in the movie. Not as much when all dolled up. She is a very natural beautiful woman.

Ren is not even close to a fully trained jedi knight. Finn also has battle training and experience...though I can give you that one more than Rey. Rey was a badass.

Toe to toe? He got whooped by the storm trooper and it took all of 2 spats with Ren and he was done. That's not toe to toe.

The Empire/First Order has to stop building structures with such design flaws.

Why did R2-D2 suddenly "wake up?"

Where did the map come from? Who created it? The old guy that looked like Obi-Wan? Luke because he wanted to be found? Or, somebody else? If so, why not ask that person where Luke is?

Did Kylo, Phasma, and the other bad guy leader (who was made to mimic Hitler) get off the Starkiller?

Why was Finn in battle as a storm trooper when he was supposed to work in the sanitation department?

How were Han and Chewbacca "in the right place at the right time" to capture the Millenium Falcon?

Kylo was a mental wreck at that point and to be effective with the force you have to "clear your mind, Luke" and focus. He was anything but focused after killing his father and taking a blaster bolt to the ribs. Just my 2 bits.

The Empire/First Order has to stop building structures with such design flaws.- I have no idea but it did seem fairly easy

Why did R2-D2 suddenly "wake up?"- I'm guessing because Rey finally arrived on the planet(Luke's daughter maybe)

Why was Finn in battle as a storm trooper when he was supposed to work in the sanitation department? maybe he got promoted

How were Han and Chewbacca "in the right place at the right time" to capture the Millenium Falcon? They said they were tracking it some how

These are all valid points, like I said before, you have to be willing to overlook some glaring plot holes in most movies. This Star Wars movie had way to many IMO. Maybe it's because I'm a fanboy and had big expectations.

I think it stems from the age you were when you saw the others because there are glaring weaknesses in those as well.

Yes and no. Sith's use the force through passion, anger, and pain. Kylo Ren is young and inexperienced and needs to learn to harness his anger.

Your second point is very good, though.

It's in the mix of the 1st trilogy of ranking

If that's the plot hole WTF are you talking about

The problem is the story arc mimicked A New Hope, which if you are going to start your trilogy you need an origins so I get it

The plot hole was one piece of the map is all that was needed?? With the resources the First Order had they could/should have found or at least been close
The plot hole he speaks of wasn't really a plot hole. They had no idea that R2 had the other half of the map.

Did you notice him hitting his wound? He was doing that to channel more power through his own pain. Problem with that guy is that he's conflicted as hell. Way too much emotion with that guy. Vader and the Palpatine always kept their cool, and controlled that rage though.

Yes, I saw him doing that. I believe that's something that Darth Bane did with force rage as well. Somewhat good for short bursts of aggression, but not sustainable.

Hey look! Didn't know this website supported this!

Anyway, while your strategy is good, it ignores personal feelings for the droid. If it were a dog, would you do the same thing? Not to say they wouldn't have done that, but I can see how they wouldn't even think of leaving the droid for dead.

I'm willing to chalk most of those to "I'm not going to reveal everything in the first movie", but they are questions that could use some answers. Or not, most of those really don't have an essential role to the main plot of the film. They could also be explained in the books and comics that came out to set up this movie. I have not read those so I do not know, but they are considered canon.

I think their problem is they use Womp Rats as a unit of measurement. If they are going to keep doing that, then I think they should build things slightly smaller than a Womp Rat.

Well, they also use a unit of distance to measure time so there's that as well.

I thought Daisy Ridley

Better than Empire? Blasphemy. I liked it a lot, but Empire is one of the best movies ever made. Period.

If I had to rank them now, it would be (1) Empire, then a gap to (2) Star Wars and (3) The Force Awakens (but I think those two are almost interchangeable), then a big gap to (4) Revenge of the Sith and (5) Return of the Jedi and then a huge gap to (6) Attack of the Clones and (7) The Phantom Menace.

I can go with this....re-watched Empire for the first time in about 10 years and it's definitely the best...to me. I believe that was the only episode in 1-6 that wasn't directed by Lucas.

I thought the movie was really good.

My biggest issue was the casting of Kylo Ren. This is, I assume, the primary antagonist for these three movies, the big scary bad guy.

Then he takes off his helmet and he's an Andy Samberg-looking dork. Seriously? The guy is a dork, not a badass.

Then he gets mad and goes all Space Balls Rick Moranis on computer equipment.

Didn't know that....I can still blame Lucas for the Ewoks right?
Well you can blame the Motion Picture Association of America. Lucas wanted a full out Wookie warfare, but the MPAA wanted something cuter to get the rating down from a PG-13 to PG for broader audience appeal.

Now I'm really sad......that would have elevated ROTJ to the top of the heap of Star Wars films. :(
