I know this is a little late, but I have to weigh in on his amazing performance at Super 32s. My interest really peeked with Young earlier this year at the National Duals. Young Guns is obviously an amazing wrestling club as this kid has improved by leaps and bounds. He absolutely dominated Clingenpeel (who's no slouch BTW) at Night of Conflict and I had the opportunity to stream all his matches at Super 32 and not only does he win but he's exciting. He scores in bunches, chain wrestles really well, is a monster on top who looks to relentlessly turn guys. His style is a perfect combo of funk and brutishness(if that's a word). At Super 32 he put it on two guys (Daniel Bullard and Mikey Labriola) ranked higher than him, one of whom (Labriola) beat him last March at PA states. He was very close to majoring Archer (12-5 dec.) and pinned Labriola in the first period. Mind you to even qualify you have to finish top 4 in your respective state tourney, so he's putting it on high level guys. I know this board had been bangin on Morning* for our lack of top recruits, but credit where credit is due here. Young was a bit under the radar with state finishes of 5th and 4th, but our staff saw something in him and snagged him early. His performance at Super 32 will no doubt place him in the top 5 at 160 at he'll be a top 50 recruit.

Our lineup up the middle is going to be very exciting to watch over the next few year with Marinelli, Young and Kemmerer shoring up the middle of the lineup. Hoping we can bring Lee to the party. Nationals titles are coming Hawk fans!!!

Didn't Holloway dominate a tourney? There are more studs coming to Iowa than you mentioned. Renteria, Menjia(sp?),Erickson, Turk etc.

Not sure you're following. Turk was barely top 100 and I don't believe Holloway or Erickson cracked the top 100. If they did it was at the very end.

I'm excited about each of them because they have the potential to develop but they don't meet the level of "stud recruit."

Correct -- I think so cal was emphasizing the middle of the lineup above. Fortunately, we have studs coming in elsewhere in the lineup, too.

Yeah that's what I meant. Shaping up to be quite the murderers row in the middle there. I'm excited about the others millhawk mentioned as well. There's going to be a lightweight street fight nearly every practice with Renteria, Wagner, Mejia, Rathbun,Turk and hopefully Lee. Obviously Wilcke and Holloway are good or the Brands/Morning* wouldn't have recruited them, but I haven't seen enough of them to get really excited. Holloway's win over Ritter is pretty impressive though.

Turk was in the 60s and Holloway was in Flo's top 100. Both ranked and well thought of but not considered blue chippers

I think we will shortly conclude that the high school rankings of Turk and Holloway did not fairly reflect their abilities vis a vis their peers, just as it is clear today that Sorensen should not have been ranked the 11th best 149 lber his senior year of high school, as the Open Mat rankings indicated. Turk lost only to Kolodzik his senior year by 4-2 (they traded takedowns, but Kolodzik had two escapes, IIRC), and Holloway took it to Ritter at the end of his senior year, and lost a close one to Stevenson, yet was ranked 50 rungs + below those guys. I fully agree that both Turk and Holloway have a chance to develop into first-rate starters; I just think their collegiate starting points were not as far back as their high school rankings suggest.

Holloway was ranked at the end of the year. He had a very good Disnay Duals beating Wisconsin recruit Hunter Ritter by fall, along with a win over Ohio St recruit Kollin Moore. Both guys ranked higher then him. Think Moore was ranked at 182. He also had a very good match with Bobby Stevenson, but appeared to run out of gas. He won't have that problem once in the Iowa room. These great results are coming from a guy who only wrestles 3 months out of the year. I believe he was very good in football and in track(shoot out state champ). Real excited to see what he can do now that he is focusing year round on wrestling!

This is correct. People can get too caught up simply looking at rankings and not actually watching matches and deciding for themselves.
