Reynolds is seeking $100+ million in funding to create more residency positions in Iowa, which ranks 44th in patient to doctor ratio. Statistics show that once trained the majority of doctors will remain in the state where they went to medical school or did their residency.

On first glance this looks like a massive government handout to DMU. Yes, the state needs more doctors, but Iowa is a top-ten brain drain state for lots of underlying reasons (many of which have been created by republican governance) and until young professionals find Iowa a desirable place to live this is just throwing away tax payer’s money.

It appears the Dr's would have to stay in state for a number of years.

I don't see how this meets the stated goal of increasing the number of doctors in rural Iowa. That will probably require incentives that Kim will need to pry away from the DOGE crew.

I think it only allows those rural, critical access hospitals to offload more patients to UIHC / UnityPoint where transfers might be refused today.

LOLOLOLOLOL.... Bwahahahahahahahaha... You reap what you sow. Science oriented individuals don't want to live in Iowa under the GQP regime? Color me shocked.

Iowa, which ranks 44th in patient to doctor ratio.

Iowa has a high obesity rate and a high binge alcohol consumption rate. These actions have consequences, both resulting in an increase in health problems. I expect a high number of HROTers are in one or both of these categories right as I write this post.

Perhaps instead of complaining about doctor availability, people should take ownership and implement lifestyle changes so as to negate the need for a high number of doctors.

It does if you live in one of the top counties/cities. It's true that we don't have gator wrestling or monster truck rallies like you Noles have, but if you are in a blue part of the state you have a good quality of life.
JFC dude, I’m not a nole you clown. I’m from Iowa. Lived there the first 32 years of my life. Iowa is home, but I’d never live there again.

Every state is facing a problematic shortage of doctors. Every. Single. State.

If you don’t believe me, simply Google “physician shortage” followed by the name of your favorite blue state.

The federal government has allocated something like $14 billion for this program. Was Reynolds not supposed to apply for Iowa’s fair share?

She probably wouldn't use the funds for the intended purpose anyway.

lol, ok, but Iowa is 44th in being terrible at doctor to patient ratio. It seems Iowas radical right governance over the last decade or more should share some blame, no?

If not, they’d be bitching about her. Regardless, they are going to bitch about everything she does. Nothing is good enough in their eyes. Act like a bunch of victims of Reynolds. Show us on the doll where she hurt you, boys.

Care to address being nearly the worst state in this category or just gloss over that fact? Fvcking clown.

Also, most of the University of Iowa doctors leave the state.

So you're saying that Iowa doesn't stand a chance for getting doctors if every state is having a problem. Why would any doctor want to go to a state that has a MAGA governor and most people think iowa is nothing but a bunch of stupid farmers. Unless you're living around Iowa City, your medical care isn't going to be good. Have fun Iowa.

She's turned down money from federal programs before, such as school lunch programs. Or at least she's tried to.

I'll need to see that in US News and World Report before I believe it. Otherwise this is more of your typical non-sensical bashing of Iowa.

I'd like to point to where she hurt me in front of a doctor, if one was available to me.
In what world is 44 out of 50 good?

K. You live with Trad now. You're a jean shorts ball cap wearing burner dangling from your lower lip Nole now.

It's true there is good and bad no matter where you live. Nowhere is perfect. However, there are reasons Iowa is having a hard time retaining college graduates.

Making fun of people because they don't want to move to flyover country is not going to convince people to move to flyover country.

Sure. Explain to me how 44 out of 50 is good? Will this plan address the goals? Will the funding end under the Trump Administration and even be available?
