Kim Reynolds seeks federal funding to ease Iowa's critical shortage of doctors

Here is the first post in the thread. Can you point out where Lucas is “incensed”?

For some reason you decided to jump in to let us know that 44th out of 50 isn’t that bad because every other state is struggling as well. Solid logic as always.
I like TJ, but he's a brand loyal Republican. He is under the mistaken belief that Ronald Reagan will once again become a role model in his party. For now he's stuck with blind brand loyalty and the desire to TJ up threads to distract from the cluster f**k going on in states like Iowa.

It was a general comment dumbass about democrats solutions and their failings. Reynolds hasn't failed as far as I am concerned.

Back to the topic.....Reynolds isn't responsible for the OB/Gyn shortage. I've already explained that to you. Fact is, lots of primarily rural states have similar issues.

What is your solution?

I'll start....Id be for a state sponsored med mal coverage. That would help. That's about all I can see that the state could do to help solve the shortages aside from loan repayment etc. I've already mentioned.

I've noticed you haven't mentioned anything. I'll you've done is identify a problem as you see it. One that is way more complex than you could probably understand unless you're in the business so to speak. Maybe you are. No idea.
To be fair , the Iowa policy on abortion has made some OBG-YN doctors not even consider practicing in Iowa

It was really dumb to hitch their wagon to something the vast majority of Iowans did not agree with. There was no reason to change policy

You don't think the regents have cut funding to the med school over the years?

Well, sure she cut funding, but that was to stop the woke. She didn't understand that the supply of doctors would dry up, and she'd start to take heat from her rural base. Now it's an issue.

You’re remarkably full of shit for someone who is seemingly capable of not being full of shit.

How many “brand loyal Republicans” do you know who voted against Trump every single time he was on a ballot? How many “brand loyal Republicans” do you know who voted for both Biden and Harris?

How many “brand loyal Republicans” do you know who voted for Greg Landsman over both Steve Chabot and Orlando Sonza and also voted for Tim Ryan over JD Vance? Hell, the only Republican I recall voting for in the past 8 years is Mike DeWine.

As for this thread, I simply pointed out that every state in America is dealing with a physician shortage. The federal government has allocated money for states to help retain physicians and Reynolds is simply trying to get Iowa’s fair share.

And then you and your buddies went multiple different directions, bitching about private school vouchers and summer food programs and at least one poster preemptively accusing her of funneling the money to her friends even before Iowa has received the money.

Because let’s be completely honest here - this was going to be a “Goddamn it, Kim!” thread one way or another. If she didn’t apply for the money you guys would instead be ripping her for not taking advantage of an opportunity to improve health care in Iowa.

The fact that she is applying for this money merely determined the direction your criticism would take.

Interesting idea. Has any other state tried this, and did it work?
Not that I am aware of. Haven't researched it. Haven't practiced anywhere but here. I can look a bit later if this is an actual question.

I think it would work yes. UIHC docs are covered by state malpractice as one example.

100%. Just like the bonus the teacher received after COVID. The complained about that too. Because it came from Reynolds.

"Why didnt the para's get it too? They work hard.. Kim SUCKS!" What a joke.

The USA does have a shortage of physicians. It is going to get worse in states with aging populations and restrictive healthcare laws. It is not the same situation for every state. Iowa's problem is going to get worse because of brain drain and abortion policies. That is a fact that you are ignoring.

You could easily educate yourself. I am not spending my time on a message board informing someone who pretends like they know what is happening. Yet you act like you know what is going on. Hilarious.
We all have opinions and I’m expressing mine. If you are an expert and have the fix, then fix it. Hilarious you don’t but act like you are a know it all and have all the answers.

That’s the Iowa Medical Society claiming without citation that Iowa is 44th. What is their source? Where is the data? I provided a link from a reputable survey that shows Iowa at 19th. Please provide a link to an actual survey that proves Iowa is 44th.
TJ…. Folks are not lined up at the borders waiting to move into Iowa. Iowa has had one if the lowest growth rates in the US for several decades… my lifetime case matter of fact. The “brain drain” has been problematic for list of my adult life. These are the facts! Spin it however you will, but there are reasons folks don’t move to Iowa. The weather sucks is the primary reason. It has nothing to do with income taxes. Iowa is NOT labor friendly and for the past 50 years has dedicated itself to expel labor unions from their work force. Rural Iowa is dying in front of us. There are very limited opportunities to make a good life there. Manufacturing jobs have fled for the (poorer) regions of America (Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisianans) leaving empty buildings and depleted populations. If it were not for 4 or 5 urban areas in the state, Iowa couldn’t exist. The one constant during the demise of Iowa has been the strength and the growth of the Republican Party and its “programs of progress” for Iowa.

Umm…that’s exactly my point, Joel. These are age-old problems that Iowa has faced for nearly two centuries. This isn’t because of abortion restrictions or MAGA. It has been this way since before any of use were born.

The USDA’s Economic Research Service recently studied rural poverty and well-being. Among their findings was this - ”The lowest rates of physicians per capita are in rural counties with an urban population of less than 2,500.”

That describes about half of the counties in Iowa. And that’s how it has always been.

Let's talk about the states that new or transferring physicians prefer. Stop talking out of your ass.

Yes I think that does play a role yes. Ob/Gyn wise.

Train elsewhere stay elsewhere.....
It impacts any doctor (really anyone) who wants to have the ability to be free to make decisions for themselves and their patients. If I'm a doctor, why would I want to be in a state that may take away other rights just for a political reasons.

Congrats for not being in the cult. That's why I like you, but, yes, the governor is somewhat responsible for things in their state.
