Kinnick Damage

Just received a picture... Doesn't look good. Standing water and turf has huge bubbles pushing up. Fortunately a lot can be done with artificial turf. Not sure how to upload pictures on here.

Should be a drainage system in place to evacuate the water on the field tho at high volume it takes time. Shouldn't be no permanent damage.

Iowa Press Release

The University of Iowa Athletics Department is aware of the water that covered the playing surface of Kinnick Stadium due to significant weather in the Iowa City area Tuesday evening. The field has now drained.

Continued evaluation will occur Wednesday, and additional information will be provided when available.

When I saw that picture, I didn’t figure those were ‘bubbles’ under the turf, but probably where actual drainage was taking place (I could be wrong).

Hope they show they are made of more than the engineers on the project, wow.

All the water that was on the field eArlier came from the passages between the East and West stands and the new North EZ I believe. Some looks like it travelled through gravel and lighter colored dust on the East side. The west side looks like it washed out some of the dirt that is under the NEZ.

I worked on the south endzone redo in 1982. We had poured 3 parallel walls to support steps on both the east and west sides along the existing brick walls. The field was still astro turf at the time. After carefully dumping and compacting sand fill ( up to 20' deep in some spots ) during the week, we returned to work Monday to realize the 8 inches of rain over the weekend had washed most of the sand onto the field as far as the 20 yard lines. Looked like the delta of a river on either side of the stadium. Originally we were instructed by the U of I to keep all mechanized equipment off the turf. The foreman had guys start shoveling wet sand into 5 gallon buckets and carry them up the steps to be dumped in the concourse. Talk about medieval construction! Eventually the owner showed up and got permission to get our 5 ton truck and a loader onto the turf. I think we eventually hauled 25 loads of sand off the field. Sometimes Reggie Roby would show up at noonish to punt and I'd shag some of his longer punts. CSB.

Meanwhile in Minnesota...

An excited PJ Fleck sprints around demaning that that playing surface is taylor-made for his boys because this...THIS is why you row the boat.

(Sorry I changed it from earlier... Im tired)

LOL, your first one was priceless. Best post of the month. ;)

Today and tomorrow are expected to be low- to mid-70s with no rain. Things should bounce back quickly.

Friday and Saturday both project a half inch of rain. That may not be great.
