Wouldn’t a 65,000 seat brand spanking new modern stadium be great???? Or no?
It would be great but the price tag would be staggering.Wouldn’t a 65,000 seat brand spanking new modern stadium be great???? Or no?
The day the South end zone was completed it was too flat...too open. Who the hell designs and then reviews these projects? They're not going to re-do the South...it's less than 20 years old.In 5 years they should clone what they did in the north end zone and redo the south the same way. Update concessions and bathrooms on the east and west side after that.
No. Remodel the south end zone and keep Kinnick tradition alive. You just can’t replicate or better the atmosphere.Wouldn’t a 65,000 seat brand spanking new modern stadium be great???? Or no?
Sorry man. I love tradition too. But maybe we are dinosaurs? I go to some of the new stadiums and think damn this is nice. But also love the cramped compacted cell signal/ Wi-Fi blocking Kinnick. Biggest wish is much better food options. Get some dang food trucks in there.No. Remodel the south end zone and keep Kinnick tradition alive. You just can’t replicate or better the atmosphere.
1) Old stadium with character
2) Fans close to field
3) Children's hospital
4) Pink Locker rooms
5) Local flavor with the residential homes/parking that adds safe haven for drinking when not in a public parking lot. (VERY IMPORTANT BENEFIT)
5) Bring back Hawkeye Express
‘Stachio, not a good poll here for the old timers who need to hold on to memories.
And we would lose the aura of Kinnick with the fans right on top of the players. The ONLY college stadium named for a heisman winner/war hero, needs to stay the "Home of the Hawkeyes"....It would be great but the price tag would be staggering.
This.....This is a serious question?
The layout of Kinnick Stadium is 75% of the reason it’s unbelievably hard to play there as a visiting team. Flushing that down the toilet would be among the dumbest things in the history of Iowa athletics.
Don’t think fans 20 years from now will care so much about that. How is it different than the Vikings with US Bank stadium? It’s loud as hell. This is a serious question?

They are dumps truthfully.No
How about Wrigley and Fenway? Bulldoze them. No. Absolutely not. No. Never ever ever ever.
But beloved dumps.......They are dumps truthfully.
Excellent point SP, that no one had brought up to this point. Would Iowa really destroy the best new tradition in college football?Rebuilding south stands like the north pretty much accomplishes the same thing as building an entirely new stadium for a fraction of the cost. New bathrooms, etc. And putting food trucks in the space created by doing that along with other family game day activities would also work really well.
You are probably right though that the U has been keeping that Mormon Trek parcel in their pocket in anticipation of the hospital eventually demanding the stadium space for expansion. Though I'm now certain the publicity from the Wave has permanently killed any desire for a stadium relocation.
The "wave" is quite the phenomenon. In just a few years it has become the number 1 ranked tradition in CF over others that are 100 years old.Rebuilding south stands like the north pretty much accomplishes the same thing as building an entirely new stadium for a fraction of the cost. New bathrooms, etc. And putting food trucks in the space created by doing that along with other family game day activities would also work really well.

And ****ing awesome. They are dumps truthfully.
Like this idea, make the south end zone like the north end zone, loud. Call me old school but I don’t want a stadium so comfortable that fans sit on their asses. I’m proud of Kinnick being known as a difficult place to play for opponents. I also don’t want the stadium further from where most of the students live.In 5 years they should clone what they did in the north end zone and redo the south the same way. Update concessions and bathrooms on the east and west side after that.
Truthfully, I love a good dump. 😎But beloved dumps.......
Lol,,.. "WHO does #2 work for?Truthfully, I love a good dump. 😎
It’s vastly different. The Vikings played at the Dome and before that the Met. Their new place is a complete upgrade. It’s not a good comparison. A new stadium at Iowa would not be an upgrade, unless better bathrooms and concession stands are vital to someone.Don’t think fans 20 years from now will care so much about that. How is it different than the Vikings with US Bank stadium? It’s loud as hell.
This and adding a thin strip of luxury boxes or something to the East grandstand. The south endzone is such a lazy design failure.Rebuilding south stands like the north pretty much accomplishes the same thing as building an entirely new stadium for a fraction of the cost. New bathrooms, etc. And putting food trucks in the space created by doing that along with other family game day activities would also work really well.

Bingo. ThisIn 5 years they should clone what they did in the north end zone and redo the south the same way. Update concessions and bathrooms on the east and west side after that.
The definition of 'progress' to progressives. Leave your soul behind. It just seems like tradition is going out the window as time moves along.
UIHC would love to get their hands on the Kinnick Stadium property. Every brick would be gone in a matter of months. And ****ing awesome.
I putting out a hit on the AD that tries get rid of Kinnick Stadium.
I just can't figure out why they had to leave those little grass corner pieces.I get that the south EZ is not good, but at the time it was built it was pretty great.
Iowa didn't have the kind of money they have now. But they got rid of the tennis courts and built that very cool pavilion. It was an amazing transformation - at the time.
Kinnick Stadium overall is a classic stadium. It became better when they widened seats, greatly updated the 1930's bathrooms, added more water fountains, etc.Keep Kinnick and redo south end zone like the north in the next 20 years or so to make it even more louder than now.
Homage to the old knothole sections plus it looks better than concrete.I just can't figure out why they had to leave those little grass corner pieces.
I love the exterior of the South end zone as it matches the character of kinnick, but agree the functional design was head scratching. On the flip side, hate hate hate the exterior of the north end zone, but it looks badass from inside the stadium. The day the South end zone was completed it was too flat...too open. Who the hell designs and then reviews these projects? They're not going to re-do the South...it's less than 20 years old.
Kinnick will make it to 100. By then, a new one may be in the works.
If a new stadium is built at some point, it should go here. Plenty of space for parking, good access, CAMBUS already runs there. University owns the land.
