Last night on his "Herbies" preseason awards show on ESPN, KH said he is picking Minnesota to win the B1G West. Minney might be a surprise team this year and KH is entitled to his opinion but why would he pick the Gophers over us?

He also didn't mention King as a "Top Cover Guy" on defense. Mentioned 3 other dudes but not the reigning Jim Thorpe Award man.

He was probably just trying to be different. No way I would pick Minnesota over Iowa or Nebraska. Maybe not even over Northwestern. I don't think they are better than Wisconsin either but they have an easier schedule.

When has Minny ever lived up to the hype. They are known for starting strong against creampuffs and petering away toward the end of the season. I give it credit because the Gophers clobbered us in 2015 ... and made a nice comeback attempt against us last season ... But I just don't see them staying the course and winning the West.

We made him look like a fool in 2010 and he's been bitter about it ever since.

All I want is a little accountability. If Minnesota finishes 4th or worse in the West, behind a combination of Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, or Northwestern, I want Herbstreit to own this one and admit that it was a really dumb pick.

Well the QB was playing on one foot last year after the TCU game. Anybody remember watching him throw a perfect seed and then 5 feet over the WRs head the very next throw? See below. You could put any of the teams mentioned ITT as Herbies pick, but I am cautiously optimistic and thankful Iowa comes to our place. They return a lot of key pieces as well in 2016.

He's got as good of a resume as any QB in the conference with all his warts. It will be interesting to see what happens. We all know the history.

You think the chick and dude from the bathroom incident a few years back will hook up again at this year's GAME? Classic

I'm certainly not picking them to win the West, but I do think they'll be a pretty tough game and have a solid season. Now if things fall right and they win a couple they normally shouldn't, they could be sniffing the top of the standings for awhile.

That is Leidner's foot?

Herbie is one of the few decent ones at espn. He has been kind to the Hawks many times. Seems like minny is a popular pick lately. It's gonna be a good game up there this year. I'll be glad to see ML graduate, seems like he's been there forever!

Respectfully disagree.

A guy can be fair to the Hawks their entire life, then one bad prediction and he's all of a sudden got it out for the Hawks according to some. So many people on this board have such a hard time taking their hawkeye blinders off and looking at things unbiasedly. All Herbstreit did was make a prediction. You honestly think he is going out of his way to make the Hawks look bad? Get a clue

Compare the schedules though. It's not the same thing saying they both would win the division. Minnesota has way more of a legitimate shot. Indiana plays at Ohio St and at Michigan.

look.... there are 2 factors to consider....
Minnesota starts B1G play against Penn State and against Iowa...
Minnesota closes the season against Northwestern and Wisconsin.

I don't think they are good enough to win all 5 between... and it would be a huge surprise if they won even one of the 4 I mentioned above....

ain't no way...

if Indiana beats Ohio State and Michigan and Michigan State.... they got a shot.
that's the same shot Minnesota has.

ain't no way.

**** oh.....
the 2nd point is.... Road teams won more games last season than Home teams

Wait...you write a paragraph defending Herbstreit.....in response to a Haweye fan's (hawkbleeder's) two word comment...respectfully disagree? Wow.

Herbie is smart and cool, and not given to ridiculous hyperbole like most analysts. If he thinks Minny will win the West, it's because he thinks they will win the West - not because of some stupid bias.
Agree. Herbie is pretty good to listen too. I'm sure he has his reasons for picking Minny, but it's a major stretch!

You got it! It was also in reference to all of the people on this board that get their panties in a wad anytime an analyst doesn't say the Hawks are the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Also I've only figured out how to quote one message. His original message suggested that Herby basically had it out for Iowa, which is ridiculous.

Most years when Iowa deserves it, Herbie has given us love. Last year he wasn't on the bandwagon.

In hindsight, he might have been correct to avoid being a part of it. Iowa couldn't do anything about its schedule but win the games they played. But when you step back, aside from the "grind" of actually winning games each week, the Hawks weren't exactly battle tested. The close loss to MSU gave us a lot of credit. The blowout in the Rose Bowl gave it all back, plus more.
