HI All,

Started watching the new season of Last Chance U that was released today on Netfllix. It follows Independence CC out of Kansas. Their first opponent was Iowa Western and M. Sargent has some mentions in the game.

Just thought it was worth a mention as a chance to see Sargent in action and to let people that need a football fix know that this is out (not sure if I like the new season though yet).

So, what did they mention about our future three time Heisman winner?

He just has a few nice carries and I think scores a TD or 2 in a win over ICC.

No actual focus on him, I was just surprised to hear his name and thought it worth sharing.

I had watched his IWCC videos, but never his high school tape. To summarize, the entire video is him making one guy miss and then running for a long touchdown.

Really intrigued by his running style. His stride reminds me of one of the all-time greats (not going to say who for fear of being accused of ridiculous hyperbole).

Daviyon Nixon #54 is also in the show.. one play owns his guy pretty good to disrupt the play..

Laugh a little when the icc defenseive tackle ran his mouth about Iowa offensive lineman and then he gets worked.. heck that whole team got worked

I'm just hoping to see some holes like the ones in the video highlights when he plays for the hawks.

I didn’t watch the highlights, but Dochterman compared him to Shon Greene more than once on his podcast with Morehouse. Smaller, but I believe he compared his balance and physicality to Greene’s? I’ll assume that is who you are hinting at.

Love Doc, but don’t see that much Greene in him. I’m talking about an all-time great back, not a Hawkeye.

I kind of see some Emmitt Smith ... in his stride and balance. IS that who you were thinking Touchdownmypants?

Son #2 played high school football with ICC WR Calvin Jackson. He signed with Washington State. Juan Harris is slated to play at ICC this fall.

That was funny... Everybody knows big ole corn fed midwestern boys are never good offensive linemen! LOL

He reminds me of Tavian Banks.

I'm not usually impressed by highlight videos but this kid's highlights were better than I was expecting. But, yeah, the way he makes cuts and accelerates is a lot like Tavian Banks. He's got good instincts and has a chance to be pretty good. How good is anyone's guess but the talent is definitely there.

Based on those highlights I'm not sure where he is seeing Shon Greene.

Wow, I can actually see a bit of that (Emmitt Smith style).

For me, the way he cuts on a dime throughout those videos just screamed Tavian Banks to me. If I recall, Tavian was a hell of a soccer player in high school, which he credited for helping him make sharp cuts that left defenders in the dust when playing football. I wonder if this kid ever played much soccer.

Anyway, anyone else seeing a little Tavian in those highlights?

I still have nightmares about trying to tackle Tavian in high school. The concept of "contain" just didn't work when he came to your side of the field because he would just run around you and still beat the linebackers and safeties to the corner.

I touched his shoulder on one play and considered that a win lol.

Ed got him in the first set of highlights :)

Just got through the first episode. The QB is a grade A douche. Cool to see Sargent tear it up. Also forgot TBoy White was at IWCC. I think he got some D1 interest out of high school IIRC.

He gets better. Against the defending national champs, Garden City, the QB uses the N word. An automatic two game suspension. The official doesn’t eject him, but chooses to warn the QB at half. The QB’s reaction to the ref he mumbles, “alright F you”. Still doesn’t get ejected.

Also, what started the scuffle that lead to the N word being exchanged was all started by the QB. Independence is taking a knee to end the half and the QB takes the snap and just stands there. After a few seconds, a D line breaks through the line and tackles him. Everyone gets pissy.

Tavian was on another level. Sargent has a lot of promise, but Tavian had world class speed. If he'd run track, he'd have been among the fastest sprinters in the country his junior and senior years at Bettendorf. He was faster than Tim Dwight, Shaw and Willie Guy. Easily.

I had no idea Tavian was faster than Dwight.

I just meant the way he cuts looks a lot like Banks. I had no intention of comparing the two in terms of speed and overall talent. I think the kid looks good on film, but like I said how good he ends up being is anyone's guess.

Not sure Tavian was faster than Dwight. I was at the City vs Bett game and the same thing happened to Banks when he tried to tackle Dwight with an angle. I don't think either of them had ever played against someone as fast as they were and they had problems with pursuit angles.

There’s a somewhat legendary story in the annals of Iowa football, that’s verified, of a race between Dwight and Banks in the Ped-Mall. Banks won.

I see a Shon Greene in that high-school highlight.

Yep. Greene is who came to mind for me. I wasn’t too confident in my thinking so I pulled up some Greene highlights and he runs almost exactly like Greene.

Yeah, that comment stuck out to me as well ... summarizing here but in a nutshell saying the oLinemen are from Iowa so they can't be that good.
