Central Florida, in particular, accounted for 81% of cases reported in Florida and almost one fifth of nationally reported cases (3). Whereas leprosy in the United States previously affected persons who had immigrated from leprosy-endemic areas, ≈34% of new case-patients during 2015–2020 appeared to have locally acquired the disease (4). Several cases in central Florida demonstrate no clear evidence of zoonotic exposure or traditionally known risk factors. We report a case of lepromatous leprosy in central Florida in a man without risk factors for known transmission routes.

It's going to come out that "krokodil" was just propaganda to give law enforcement bigger budgets when what was really happening was the return of leprosy

It may be related to Central Florida getting clobbered by two major hurricanes last year. When modern electricity, water treatment, air conditioning are knocked for an extended period you are quickly reminded that much of peninsular Florida was literally swampland 100 years ago.

First Malaria and now Leprosy, Meatball is a failure machine
And you failed Impulse Control 101, which must explain why you cannot refrain from making stupid posts.
Central Florida is also a popular tourist area with huge international turnover and a magnet for people from all over the world who take jobs in the hospitality industry; many are from tropical climates.
Who knows where this may have started. Thank God for modern medicine.

Nationwide about 180 cases a year. Maybe 20% are originating in that Orlando area per news reports.
Need to trace that outbreak quick.

I’m always surprised when Florida folks think everyone wants to storm over their border to take up residence. Anyone with half a brain or more isn’t even considering the option. You can turn the lights off and don’t wait up, we’re not coming.

Big facts.

SO glad you put that in writing!

It will always be Hansen's disease to me. Leprosy and TB are kissin cousins bacterially speaking.

You keep saying that. Get off your ass and go.
Your governor can't wait to leave Florida. He wants out of Florida so bad he's spent a week pretending he can be a human to people in jean shorts at the Iowa State Fair.
