I wonder if KF gives PP full autonomy to run the Defense? No reason to run deep plays later in the game.
Funny he used "voted down", instead of "overruled". Also, if it was KF, you don't throw shade on the HC like that in a press conference.
No one will believe this, but it might not have been KF.
And BTW, the OC should not have full autonomy to call plays. He's part of a team just like the players.
He said (regarding deep plays) "I had a couple of them ready for later in the game and wanted to run them but got voted down" . So is KF voting him down? The OC should have full autonomy to call the f'ing plays.

I don't mind a head coach having veto power but my question is it seems pretty ****ing obvious this team would benefit greatly from opening up even just a tiny bit so why in the hell is he vetoing a deep shot? I do not understand what the hell he's so scared ofI wonder if KF gives PP full autonomy to run the Defense?
I agree, not 100% but 99.98% autonomy.
I think its obvious that the back to back years of serious leg injuries really put him back. We all knew last season that he wasn't right even before his last injury. Hopefully he keeps progressing. This is Cade's 6th year in college.
And his footwork is still an issue.
The full text of the tweet:
Tim Lester on Cade McNamara's performance so far:
"This is going to go against the popular opinion, but I thought last game was one of his best games."
Adds that he had a good throwaway on a bad ball. Had a couple drops in there.
He says that his footwork was a LOT better last week.
As always this just shows that people on the board and other fans, often have NO idea why certain guys aren't more involved, and yet they bitch anyway. Nice to hear the OC put this out there...
Yes. 99.98% is not full autonomy. HC has to be some calls, hopefully very limited. Like 4th down or 2 pt conversions. Even then it should be more of an approval or "try again" of the OC's decision than it is telling him what to do.I wonder if KF gives PP full autonomy to run the Defense?
I agree, not 100% but 99.98% autonomy.
What? Lester really said that? Hello, Beth . . .He said (regarding deep plays) "I had a couple of them ready for later in the game and wanted to run them but got voted down" . So is KF voting him down? The OC should have full autonomy to call the f'ing plays.

Yah, other teams "save" standard football plays, like throwing the ball deep. That's why Iowa State and Troy didn't try that sort of foolishness against Iowa . . . LOLIf true, going deep was unnecessary against the Gophers, and probably more valuable to save for the Buckeyes...
Sure. And you allowed 3 to Iowa State that cost the ball game because you put NO pressure on the QB. Hell, the Minny QB looked like Tom Brady as long as Iowa put NO pressure on him. What did he do--hit like 12 straight? But then Iowa got some pressure, and he looked like a middle school kid. I don't necessarily want sacks, but PRESSURE is vital if you're gonna beat big-boy teams.
Of course. But what if you can't run against 8 or 9 in the box? Whatcha gonna do? Other teams pass down the field. Iowa?I don't about your knowledge level, but listening to Lester talk, I realize as much as I watch football and think I'm on it, I know virtually nothing. For example, who recognized that a play call was designed to go to a WR and it was open for a long gain, but WR ran the route wrong.
I have no idea what play it was, but I'm sure I was saying, Put Sullivan in!
As far as holding off on some pass plays, the running game was unstoppable. Scratch where it itches. I remember that from a long while ago.
That's a very interesting answer. If the "group" was 2, TL & KF then it wasn't voted down, just rejected. But why use the word "group". It sounds more like the group was at least some of the coaches, including KF.
Poor analogy though. I mean we were "Troy's OSU". What else were they going to do to try to stay in the game? Even ISU had no option but to try going over the top. They couldn't run the ball against us. I'm sure KF and everybody else took some enjoyment in punishing The gophs by running it down their throats. Interesting that Michigan used the same formula to upset USC. THIRTY TWO passing yards for M in that big win. But, yes, we'll need to be creative in the pass game to stay in the game at "The Shoe". This bye week could not have come at a better time. I wouldn't be surprised to see a series or two for Sullivan in this one.Yah, other teams "save" standard football plays, like throwing the ball deep. Another interesting point was his talk about running against a stacked box.Of course. But what if you can't run against 8 or 9 in the box? Whatcha gonna do? Other teams pass down the field. Iowa?
Group was a way of not calling out KFz directly. Maybe the WR coach was on the headset too at the time. But who else would overrule the OC...but the HC who we all know is risk-averse to a fault. That's a very interesting answer. If the "group" was 2, TL & KF then it wasn't voted down, just rejected. I agree with the majority. We were rolling over the Gophers. Eating clock and chewing up the field. The late 3rd and 4th quarters was probably not the time to show anything new or take any unnecessary risks.
We are going to see more of Sullivan than most posters think.Poor analogy though. I mean we were "Troy's OSU". What else were they going to do to try to stay in the game? Please do not take this as snark or an insult, but the answer makes a difference in what I would say. Have you ever coached anything beyond youth sports? Not an implication that you don't know what you're talking about.Group was a way of not calling out KFz directly. Maybe the WR coach was on the headset too at the time. Not denying what you're saying but you are also taking coach speak as it's gospel, it may not beAs always this just shows that people on the board and other fans, often have NO idea why certain guys aren't more involved, and yet they bitch anyway. Nice to hear the OC put this out there...
Sure, but every time they interview anyone outside, they say they play basic defense. Extreme discipline. It's not exotic stuff.I wonder if KF gives PP full autonomy to run the Defense?
I agree, not 100% but 99.98% autonomy.
Hey it is all Cade's fault!!!!!!!!!Lester's comments about the guys and routes, etc just shows how little the VAST majority of us understand the intricacies of the offenses in major level football. Yeah, some here played at high levels, and we have varying levels of understandings of scheme intentions, formations, etc. but Tim talking about guys making wrong reads and then running wrong routes and making wrong cuts.....
No problem. Not beyond age 13, but what does that have to do with it? It's more about using the right verbage on a touchy subject. I've experienced that numerous times in business situations and company meetings. Sometimes you euphemise a bit to avoid conflict or controversy. Please do not take this as snark or an insult, but the answer makes a difference in what I would say. I bet the #8 block will get some chuckles in film room, but he did just enough to take his guy out long enough.
Him or Curtis will be flaming in the 1st quarter for something.I'm glad Ragnar watched and hopefully won't embarrass himself again when we go to the #3 team in the country with a billion dollar NIL...
