He’s the one who made the point. My point remains the same: why drool over a guy who’s achieved nothing as a D1 assistant? If he wrestled at Michigan we wouldn’t be having this conversation. That should be reason enough.
Hiring a guy because he was super nice and wrestled at Iowa is not a great strategy. One could argue that’s a big part the problem we have currently. Why propagate it?
You guys have Nick Lee now as an assistant, Cael is smart. Every young wrestler who is anyone in the USA knows who Nick Lee is.

We have Star and Telford, who no one really knew who they were in their prime, let alone now.

Yes, I'm aware they are great people and had great high school careers.
Nationally, not so much.

Do you think Gabe beats Kennedy? I think it’s pretty close. Iowa is going to need a 197lber. Why not just beef up Angelo. He’s got the frame to easily do it but if you don’t then does 197 become a weight where you have to get a transfer? Anyone know any decent possibly 197 transfers?
Or are you counting on beefing up Ludington and starting him? Gonna be interesting.
I think Gabe will be more effective at 174, he is just too short at 184.
My guess is they RS Ludington and he's a 197. Can fill 197 next year with a 1 year portal guy
Yes. I think Gabe contends for a title at 74. I think he competes for AA at 84.
It feels like Gabe is going to be the classic high recruit that TnT takes backwards with their various decisions over time. He’s a 174, no 184, other guy gets the better starts, he’s on a pitch count, let him get frustrated and say un needed things, then fans get all over him in person and on line. All preventable stuff where he could have an optimized career instead he now feels discombobulated (and yanked around)
I’m not sure that Angelo would want to bump up only to meet his brother in the finals at nationals next year.
I thought it had been reported that Gabe said 174 was too much of a cut. Was that an error in reporting or what?

It was more of a cut than he wanted this year. IMO it won't be as bad next year since he will stay lower this summer.
Always much more going on behind the scenes than fans are aware. We watch the wrestling and think that's why all the decisions are being made much more goes into it .

Star recruits and has an excellent relationship with the team. Is he exciting or a national name…no. His style was boring but I’d say for what he’s been asked to do he’s exceeded expectations. Bobby I haven’t heard much great or bad about. Jden cox or someone of that ilk would be an upgrade.
Regardless of the cut he leaves himself he is too short at 184.
Instead of replacing coaches I think it would be more beneficial to get more senior level talent in the HWC.
You could make a valid argument he's too short for 174.
Kennedy would be the same argument.
Gabe is maybe 5’7. He could’ve easily cut the weight this year.

There's a difference in piss pounding kids your age in high school and wrestling guys 21-24 years old in college dropping 10-15 lbs now.
And with as much as these guys wrestle BEFORE college...what they do as freshmen might be their peak.
You can't assume the results improve between first year and senior season.
A career like Kennedy is very possible.
GA has never been real offensive no matter the weight. Everybody knows you avoid getting taken down by him and take it to 3rd period and you have a chance to win. Kennedy beats up on average guys and has nothing for good wrestlers. He’d had his chances. He’s doesn’t have AA skills barring a lucky unfolding of his bracket.

I think you do what is best for the team and the wrestler. I agree with Brands holding Ferrari out. AF wrestling doesn’t help us win a National Championship this year. Keeping him around is better for the program.
