Let's face it. Iowa has the easiest road to the Sweet 16

Apparently everybody is happy with their draw. Probably for good reason.

Nothing left to do but see how it plays out.

This is incorrect. Villanova has the easiest road to the sweet sixteen. They get a terrible shooting Temple team or a reeling Iowa team.

Perhaps you should worry about winning your first game in the tournament instead of whether you will be facing Iowa or Temple. UNC Asheville did beat Georgetown earlier in the year at Georgetown. They also played Tennessee close as well.

Iowa's basketball budget is $6.8 mill per year.

That would rank you in the Big East at

St. John's $10.5
Georgetown $10.3
Marquette $9.1
DePaul $9.1
Villanova $8.1
Providence $7.3
Seton Hall $6.8
Iowa $6.8
Creighton $6.5
Xavier $5.5
Butler $4.5

Wow, you are certainly POWERFUL. Just like Rutgers and Penn State. Congrats on being so POWERFUL.

Your operating budget is only higher than the three new schools, who are just now starting to cash their Big East pay checks and will quickly hop up to the level of the others.

Congrats on being POWERFUL like Rutgers and Penn State though!!

An interesting note is that you could add up the bottom five big east schools on that list, add up their student body enrolment, and combined they would be less than Iowa. I thought that was pretty funny that these little schools are somehow able to make and spend more money on hoops than POWERFUL schools like Iowa and Rutgers and Penn State.

do you even pay attention to college hoops or is it all football to you?

since 2003, teams in the final four:

Big East:
Marquette
Nova
Georgetown
Butler
4 of the 10 teams

Big Ten:
Michigan State
Illinois
Michigan
Wisconsin
4 of the 14 teams

I don't care if the Big East plays football or not, that doesn't make Rutgers, Penn State, Iowa, Northwestern, etc... better hoops schools than Georgetown, Marquette or Villanova

I love how you skew your numbers to try and make your argument appear better.

2015 - Duke, Wisconsin, Michigan State, Kentucky (4/4)
2014 - Uconn, Kentucky, Florida, Wisconsin (3/4)
2013 - Louisville, Syracuse, Michigan, Wichita State (3/4)
2012 - Kentucky, Kansas, Ohio State, Louisville (4/4)
2011 - UConn, Kentucky, Butler, VCU (1/4)
2010 - Duke, West Virginia, Butler, Michigan State (3/4)
2009 - North Carolina, Connecticut, Michigan State, Villanova (2/4)
2008 - Kansas, Memphis, North Carolina, UCLA (3/4)
2007 - Florida, Ohio State, Georgetown, UCLA (3/4)
2006 - UCLA, Florida, LSU, George Mason (3/4)
2005 - North Carolina, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan State (4/4)
2004 - Duke, Connecticut, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech (4/4)
2003 - Texas, Kansas, Marquette, Syracuse (3/4)
2002 - Maryland, Kansas, Oklahoma, Indiana (4/4)
2001 - Duke, Michigan State, Arizona, Maryland (4/4)
2000 - Michigan State, Florida, North Carolina, Wisconsin (4/4)

Since 2000, the P5 conferences have accounted for 52/64 of the Final Four.

You are digging yourself your own grave. On what planet does that budget have to do with playing basketball? St. John's just went 8-24, finished last in their conference, yet they are at the top.

Hats off to you for thinking that one through.

Umm, sweet I guess. And a whole bunch of those are from the Big East.

Big Ten is a 14 team conference that has had 5 of its programs make the Final Four since 2003 (I forgot 2007 Ohio State in my original post)
Big East is a 10 team conference that has had 4 of its programs make the Final Four since 2003

Michigan State is a Final Four regular, so the Big Ten has more. But let's not go acting like the Big 10 is some balanced conference of POWERFUL teams that sends a variety of its members.

And you are correct. Usually it is teams from schools with larger budgets, which tend to be football schools, in the final four. But where you are incorrect is excluding the Big East, as these schools also have large budgets and can send teams to the third weekend.

And actually the Atlantic 10 and the American Conference have schools that put forth good efforts, are much better basketball schools than half the big ten, and should be included as well. You going to put Iowa ahead of UConn, Memphis, Temple, St. Joe's or VCU? That would be humorous. Those schools are all better hoops schools than Iowa. (Yeah, I even included Temple in that one)

So to be more correct, since 2000, 62 of the 64 Final Four teams have come from either current Football 5 conferences, or the Big East, Atlantic 10, or American Conference members.

And none of them have been Iowa, Rutgers, Penn State, Northwestern, Purdue, Nebraska and any other Big Ten team that I am forgetting...

Is this serious?

What makes the Big East a major conference, like the Big 10, or SEC, or ACC, or Pac 10, or Big 12, is that the schools have major operating budgets. They can afford to compete with the big boys, and that's how they do compete with the Big Boys.

But I guess you can't see that. You think Michigan State ($10.5 mill operating budget) dominates your conference out of luck?

And it's funny you making fun of St. John's. Sure they have struggled, but their most recent Elite 8 appearance was the same year as your last trip to the Sweet 16. (And St. John's has just recently doubled their operating budget, so they haven't felt the effects yet. They had been doing it cheap in the old big east before we got the big tv deal)

First things first. You have spent way too much time and effort trying to convince us that Villanova basketball is a blueblood program. It's not.

Second, I do remember when the Big East was a premier conference in college basketball (and frankly was saddened by the recent break up of the conference). I also remember when stone-washed jeans were popular.

Third, not that it matters, but you forgot to include Ohio State in teams that have made the Final Four. Up until Nebraska joined the conference, that would have been 5/11 teams. But honestly, who cares?

Four, college football is great. If your teams didn't suck so bad, you would probably realize that too.

Five, get a life.

I just remember Delaware being good back in the day. They used to be #1 for a while. They came and beat UNI in the Dome one year. Flacco was the QB and they were good! I think they continued to be good after he left as well. But I haven't honestly followed them since I was in college.

Oh okay so there are other things out east. I was just worried because you said no one cares about football. I thought the NE was a hotbed for football, but if no one cared about it made me question if all Nova fans were like that.
Flacco NEVER beat Villanova in Football. All losses. Look it up!!

I honestly don't have any ill will toward Villanova. I was four when they had that improbable win over Georgetown in 1985, and my dad still talks about that game today. Lol.

With that said, Villanova is not considered a blueblood in basketball. No offense.

If you want to post arbitrary statistics, I got a couple for you. Villanova has been to the Final Four four times in the history of their program. Iowa has been there three times, and noone believes Iowa has ever been one of college basketball's elites. Also, before the break up of the Big East, Villanova had a grand total of 1 Big East tournament championships. Iowa has won 2 Big Ten tournament championships in the short history of the tournament.

Nothing personal, but Villanova is not Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina, etc.

I don't think that any Nova fan would compare the program to Duke, Kentucky, UCLA or Kansas.

We are in the realm of teams with top 10-15 tournament appearances and tournament wins, multiple final fours, double digit elite 8 and sweet 16 appearances, a bunch of tournament success this century, and a national title. And we are one of the premiere teams in our region of the country. I don't care where you rank us, that's fine with me.

It was just comical hearing one of your posters claiming that Rutgers, Northwestern, and Penn State were real programs but schools like Georgetown, Nova and Marquette are not.

Regarding college football, you do know that we have a ton of NFL teams in the northeast, and we don't have any schools that play big time college football (no disrespect of course to Syracuse, boston college, and Rutgers). Also, the bowl system from an outsider's perspective is all whacky, and the single elimination format of the regular season, it just hasn't caught on out here. You are free to enjoy college football, but when people pound their chests about it with respect to a basketball game you might as well be talking about your wrestling team or Nova talking about our track team. We don't care.

Yes, every fan base has its fair share of idiots.

You recognize that Nova fans would yawn about an Iowa fan going on about Iowa's 20 + national titles in wrestling, yet you go to extraordinary, garrulous lengths to promote Villanova basketball as if Iowa fans would be completely enamored with its "rich" tradition.

Frankly, I'm not sure who you are trying to convince. Your efforts kind of remind me of a bumper sticker I saw one time: Nice truck. Sorry about your small penis.

Ummmm, isn't there a basketball game between the two teams coming up? And you want to talk football? And you think talking basketball is off topic?

Also, I don't think there is any attempts to impress going on here. No Nova fan is claiming they are duke. The only talk backing up the program were when your idiots tried to compare Villanova to Rutgers or Northwestern or Penn State.

Lol. At this point, no Iowa fan is going to hold their breath that there will actually be a game between Iowa and Nova. If Iowa gets past Temple, then we will talk.

My comment was in reference to the poster I was replying to who has inundated this board with an encyclopedia's worth of information about Villanova basketball. As I said before, I have no beef with Villanova or their fans. Most of my comments to him (or her) were tongue-in-cheek.

Every fan base has its fair share of idiots, as I stated previously. Anyone comparing Villanova to Rutgers, Penn State, or Northwestern is a mental midget, being facetious, on drugs, or all of the above.

I personally couldn't care about Flacco or Delaware. I just think its funny that Nova beats their chest over Div 1AA football. Beings they spend majority of their money on basketball.

This screams little brother syndrome. They keep flooding our boards about their program. I could care less about it. I don't care, if they beat us, they are favored and personally SHOULD win.

But we have to make it there first. Both Iowa and Nova have to win on Friday, boy how stupid would this argument look if the #15 & #10 seed wins. Oh boy.

Find me one Villanova fan beating their chest over Villanova football. Better yet ,find me one Villanova fan that can actually name a player on the Villanova football team.

Little brother syndrome? You guys don't talk about your upcoming matches on this site? You just spend all winter talking about your football team that nobody in the northeast knows exists?

What the hell else would you focus on??? Football? Please go back in your goofy Big East hole. You can't even keep teams in your conference. Yeah the Big East is powerful if you are talking about that game with a little net on the end of a stick. Wow THAT is powerful. You need to find a couch to have someone listen to your insecurity issues. So what does the Powerful big least do for the other 8 months of the year while other teams win the national championship in your power sport. I know you can kick everyone's ass in the netted stick game. Congrats

So you guys just want to talk football?

Okay. I am a New England Patriots fan. You probably can name a dozen players who have played for the Patrits the past decade, and can name a bunch of things about our coach.
You are Iowa Hawkeye fans. I cannot name any Iowa football player ever, and can not name any Iowa football coach ever.

Great football discussion guys. That was a lot of fun.

Now, seeing as the basketball tournament is underway, you want to talk about that? Or are you still thumping your chests out about being Ohio State's whipping boys in the Big 10? Is your football team as good as Penn State or are you more like a Rutgers type school? Not that I really care, but this is obviously what is important to you on a basketball message board.

And the Big East is comparable to the Big Ten for basketball. The Big Ten has the best team in Michigan State, but you have Rutgers, so that cancels each other out. Big East sends a higher percentage of its teams to the dance and has more top end seeds. But who cares, because you guys aren't Michigan State, you are Iowa.

Well if you can't name an Iowa football coach or a player than you just proved a point of how clueless the big least is on anything outside of basketball. Many, many Iowa players/coaches in the NFL nitwit.

I admit that most Big East fans are clueless on college football. Usually college football fans don't go to Big East schools, because, you know, the schools don't play college football. The Big East schools tend to attract college basketball fans. If a kid wants to go to a college football school, he can go to a Big 10 school. Not like Penn State or Rutgers or Iowa are difficult to get into.

I just looked up Iowa Football players in the NFL. Scott Chandler is the only one I have heard of, and he's some scrub back up tight end.
I also see Andre Tippet. I know of him as I am a Patriots fan. I had no idea he went to Iowa.

But seriously, you might as well be bragging about your wrestling team.

You continue to embarrass yourself with you lack of knowledge and your laziness to just look it up. Oh well....can't help a guido who doesn't understand the wonders of the Internet.

Seriously. Think about the angle you are working here and then you can feel great shame.

Nova has 16 national championships in track and field. Why hasn't this been mentioned yet? Because nobody cares because this is a basketball board. Just like your wrestling team and your football team.

Some serious insecurity going on here, bragging about basketball budgets.

Anyone with half a brain knows college sports revolve around football.

All other sports are along for the ride, and if you are a have not, you really don't matter.

Of your last fourteen posts seven have used the word "football" at least once. Clearly you are interested in continuing the football topic as much as anyone. You've been wise to throw in a few meth, farming, and Iowan's general lack of sophistication - that keeps us off your trail.

Here's a link to our actual basketball board. Why don't you head over and we'll meet you there in a bit.

LOL
Seems you know nothing about Nova and its fans.
In the Bahamas you got your azz kicked and there were more Nova fans than Iowans, or whatever you're called.

Two very inaccurate statements.
1) Iowa lost an OT game to 'Nova that they controlled for a majority of the time. Kinda the beginning of a string of blown games for the Hawks, but not an azz kicking by any means.
2) There is absolutely no way you were in the Bahamas for that Tourney if you think 'Nova had more fans than Iowa....it wasn't even close.

Hoping to see the Hawks and 'Cats face off on Sunday; would love me some revenge.

I think St. John's and DePaul ought to have a pillow fight over which school has the worst athletic finance department in college sports history.

I think it would be an interesting game. I don't see anyone on Nova that could guard Uthoff. I think Uthoff's size would bother Kris Jenkins. He's a tremendous player but Uthoff ability to block jumpers would cause him problems. Woodbury could handle Ochefu on the block. I think Clemmons would take Hart out of the game. Hopefully we get to see the match up. Lets take down Temple First
