Let's face it. Iowa has the easiest road to the Sweet 16

Don't think a team that just lost to Illinois has an easy road to a sweet sixteen. And Villanova could have easily been a 1 seed although I think they have been overrated playing in a weak conference. Plus I can't stand Jay Wright.
My favorite story about jay wright is from Mario Chalmers. Wright cut Chalmers and Sherron Collins from Team USA for the Pan Am games in favor of his own Villanova guy in the summer of 2007. Flash forward to NCAA tournament that year, KU is playing Nova in the sweet sixteen.
Chalmers said this
"So when it came to the Villanova game, Coach Self called Sherron and me into his office and said, “How do you feel about this Villanova game?” I said, “Coach, this is personal to me. I don’t like Jay Wright.” He was like, “I understand that, but keep it out of the media.” So when the media asked if it was a personal game, we’d say, “No, it’s not personal. It’s just another game.” But during the game we were talking all kinds of s--- to Jay Wright. We’d run by him and tell him, “Sit your a-- down! We got this!” Another time we said to him, “This is what you get for cutting us. We’re about to dog you!” Anytime we were throwing the ball in from the sideline, when he was standing up trying to call a play, we’d tell him to shut his mouth and sit down. There was one play where I threw a lob to Shady on an inbounds pass and he dunked over Scottie Reynolds. Right before I threw it I looked at Jay Wright and said, “Watch this!” That game was definitely personal for Sherron and me."

They beat Nova 72-57.

Mario Chalmers, what a class act that guy is!!!! You get cut from the meaningless Pan Am games, so you HATE Jay Wright? LOL, that has got to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Jay Wright is one of the classiest coaches in all of college hoops.

Also, Nova was a 12 seed that year. Kansas was a 1 seed. Kind of hilarious that this complete moron, Mario Chalmers, would talk so much trash to a team there was no doubt they would beat.

If you define class as being a tool then yes he is one of the classiest coaches. Also one of the most overrated coaches in the country. Sounds like you are still bitter about the loss.

Yes, Kansas beat Nova that year in the Sweet 16. Oh the shame.
then the same guy Jay kept on the team over Chalmers led Villanova to the Final Four the next season

You would give your left nut to have Jay Wright as your coach. You have Fran Mcaffery. Heck, Saint Joseph's (PA) wouldn't even hire Fran Mcaffery as their coach!!

I would never want Jay Wright to coach a team I was a fan of unless i liked watching ugly basketball. I don't have Fran McCaffrey, Iowa does.

Jay Wright coaches ugly basketball? Huh? That's a first. You hear that about Jamie Dixon or Tny Bennett or Fran Dunphy. But Jay?

His teams are usually pretty entertaining. Lots of dynamic guard action and teams that use match up advantages to play a unique defensive style. The guy had a 1 seed that went to the Elite 8 with only 1 starter over 6-5 in 2006. He took a team to the final four that only played one big guy, and that was an undersized power forward as the center, in 2009. The recent rendition of teams have been a real good blend of interchangeable 6-4 to 6-7 perimeter wing players switching and trapping and playing similar roles on defense that is entertaining. and the 1-2-2 3/4 diamond defense is his signature defensive set and you see more and more teams adopting it (like Beilein's 1-3-1 zone).

Criticize Jay for other reasons if you want, but the entertainment of his team's style of play is certainly a new one.

Pretty entertaining if you like watching paint dry. You are a fan of the team so your biased. Wright was voted one of the most overrated coaches in the country by his peers and one of the coaches polled said they didn't need to prepare a scouting report for Wright's teams.

Sweet. So criticize him for being overrated or not prepping or shooting too many threes or something.

but a boring style of play, you are the first person I have ever heard make that claim. Temple fans wouldn't even say something so ridiculous. And compared to the style of most of the Big Ten, that's real funny to call nova a boring team.

seeing as you probably haven't watched more than 20 minutes of Villanova basketball in the past decade, I'm guessing that was just a real weak attempt at trolling.

Please provide some examples of Jay Wright being a tool. I'd love to hear them. Try to find one "toolish" thing he has ever said in the media. I challenge you.

I've never heard anything negative about Jay Wright. Rick Pitino on the other hand...

Pitino just looks shifty. Agree on Jay Wright. If the Hawks can get to a game with Villanova I just hope it is as good a game as the last one when the two teams met.

While I liked the last result from when we met, I would rather not have a game where we get our asses kicked for 30 minutes before we hit some lucky long range threes.

I would, less likely it can happen twice.

The first thirty minutes from that game from Atlantis has actually been popping up, along with the two Creighton games from 2014, in my nightmares lately.

Well I don't think you have to worry about the Hawks going off from 3 the way Creighton did.

If Iowa shoots around 50% from 3 pt land this game will be fun. Sadly I do not see it.

Hell I would take 70% from the FT line personally.

Funny, that's exactly the way I remember it...... (Hawk Fan)

Imcan't remember exactly but I seem to remember that some of those 3s came from a player who wasn't normally a good 3 point shooter. Maybe Isaiah Armwood? I might be wrong.

Big Game James Bell started chucking 28 footers and a bunch of them dropped. They were a little out of character, especially at that point in his career. And they weren't part of good offensive plays, they were pretty much just chucks.

We got lucky

How many Hawk fans will be at the game? and...
After the Temple game will Hawk fans stick around for the wrassling tourney?

Lol @Villanova fans. I mean Iowa hasn't done much either in the tournament in the past couple of years. But you guys are acting like you're Kansas or Oklahoma or something.

You are not. You are the weakest 2 seed out there. Iowa has gotten a tremendous draw.

Womp, womp, waaaaaa.... Stick to something you know about.

By the way can recommend any stocks so I can avoid them.

Seems like the Hawks have been unlucky with ncaa tourney matchups. Temple was a tough matchup for us and obviously Nova was damn near unbeatable as they were on a roll and destroyed everyone.

Lot's of idiotic posts in this thread. Guarantee the OP hadn't seen a single game of Nova hoops since Bahamas.

Hey OP how is that easy road to the Sweet 16 working out? Looks like there was a huge crater created by the impact of a star going SUPER "Nova" and sucking the Hawkeyes into a huge black hole.

Nova proved they were a great team.

I, for one, was happy to see Nova win it all. It was especially cool seeing Rollie Massimino and Ed Pickney in the stands during the game.

My opinion is that was the 2nd best finish to a championship game in tournament history. Nothing will ever beat Wittenberg to Charles in 83.

"Villanova fans" = again, I have to take your word that they actually exist because I've never seen them. But I assume they're much like "Creighton fans" or "Xavier fans" in that they're a nice little group of football fans from other pro/college clubs that has a few team color shirts to throw on a few times a year during basketball season.

Also, and I mean this in the best way possible, you should be much more worried about UNC Asheville than us right now.

"Iowa fans" = again, I have to take your word that they actually exist because I've never actually seen them. But I assume they're much like "Rutgers fans" or Penn State fans" or "Nebraska fans" in that they're a nice little group of public school kids who don't know jack sh*t about college hoops but think that their mediocre to below average college football means something come March.

I think Nova just dunked again on your sorry ass team.

as008 is worse than Kilroy and it's not even close. The dude honestly thinks St.John's is the best coaching job in college basketball
