Lightweight U is not Iowa

Who cares? It's for discussion purposes. The numbers and cutoffs are arbitrary, but again, it doesn't really matter. We don't get anything for being "lightweight U". And sure, the numbers were probably cooked a little bit because it's not terribly interesting or attention-grabbing to say "In the first edition of a new series we want you all to read, the answer to our arbitrary question is...exactly what you think it is!"

I will point out to my boy CP, though, that 15 isn't REALLY a round number either, since round numbers are loosely thought to be integers ending in zero. Round number isn't even REALLY a term in math, it's more informal. Numbers that end in zero are true "round numbers" while numbers that end in 5 are "more round" than numbers that end in a different number.

Just started reading this board. Didn't realize there was so much crying on this site.

I don't want to speak for CP but I assume he was counting in quinary.

According to TR Foley, the advanced collective farming districts of pre-Brezhnev Soviet Russia based their target per hectare yields on 15 year cycles as that represented 3 complete 5-year Agriculture plans, so I also think it can make sense in this context as well. That is if you believe, as TR does, that the standard decade is an outmoded measuring unit preferred mainly by hyper-capitalist, patriarchal Kleptocracies like the present-day United States.

I mean, it's really that simple.
Could you repeat the stuff about the thing? ;)

Sensitivity is overated. CP and Willie are the first to jump on Twitter and trash Hawkeyereport when they see feed back that doesn't make them "feel" good or paints them in a negative light. They act like 11 year olds that got their Halloween candy taken. Very thin skinned and unprofessional! BooHoo! :)
You can easily avoid that by not going on Twitter and worrying about what clowns around the world are thinking on a second by second basis. I get all the "social media" I can stomach by coming here to talk Hawkeye Sports, unfortunately not near enough with just Hawkeye fans.

Guys, really? I literally laughed out loud at the obvious click bait title of the "article." I'd be willing to bet that 15 years was the only possible variable that placed anyone ahead of Iowa at 125 so of course that is the unit of measurement they used.

I'm excited to hear WC Willie's thoughts on this topic. He tends to reel Pyles back in when he drifts wayyyyy out there. Hopefully it gets addressed on FRL today.

Big picture though - this generated plenty of interested and has me excited to listen to them talk about it. That's a win for the sport every day of the week. WCW and CP are great for the sport and know what they are doing.

I am waaaay too lazy for this to be true. but good idea for the next topic, as it appears to be a winning strategy for generating social media traffic.

My guess there is a few windows Iowa wouldn't be at the top. Just eyeballing it probably 1-4 years and 13-16 years beyond that I am guessing you would have to go WAY back to get some other teams close.

We did talk about it on FRL today.

it was a fun episode imo.

in summation -

1) i agreed with HR that their argument that the numbers should have been run from the weight change year (as opposed to 15 years ago)

but that

2) some pople on HR thinking it was a conspiracy theory to make iowa #2 was 'out there'

WCW is the Fox News of wrestling. Fair and balanced!

The super clickbaity title combined with a head scratching time frame made it seem pretty sketchy. I am sure it was just a poor choice of time frame combined with good copywriting, but if the goal was to crown 125U, 133U, 141U ... it seems like a no-brainer to go back a few more years when 125, 133 141... were invented.

I will say this. If you had told me to name the top 3 schools over the last years at 125 and 133 respectively. I would not have said Cornell is even in the conversation at 125 and I would not have guessed OSU was in the conversation at 133. I would have had Iowa at number 1 and everyone else "at what difference does it make, no one is even close."
So as a fan, I find this interesting.

Now the whole hectare, 5 year agricultural cycle, kleptocracies thing - I was all over that. :)

You guys are funny. I listened today. Laughing about clickbait when your twitter post was like one of those late night news promos "what school is 125 U? the answer may surprise you. More at 10!" You're tweet plus the photo of a guy from Iowa sure looked like you were trying to draw a response from Iowa...

Obviously you were not listening than Jay because everything is not about Iowa

Thank you for reminding me. I was being foolish and just using visual evidence to back up my findings. ;)

How silly of me to assume a tweet with an Iowa guy in it was SUPPOSED to mean "it isn't always about you, Iowa" (pretty much a direct quote from Pyles )

Also from the FRL they talked about defending their opinions with the wrestling community on forums and twitter, which i absolutely love that they still interact with the community and don't think they have thin skin at all for doing it. The 'thin skin' part comes from the manner in which the defense sometimes comes I believe... where instead of defending the position, its defending the position while also belittling the opposing viewpoint as being clearly inferior or stupid. I think that is the part that gets people fired up a bit. But as with all things it goes both ways, there are definitely Iowa fans who belittle CP's or willies opinion, just because of who they are. But it seems like when 'Iowa fans' do it we always get singled out and spotlighted a little bit more so than any other team. Just my take on the situation, i suppose.

Personally I think you are right. They did talk about that today too and I agree, it's not the fact they defend themselves it's how they go about it.

Willie made some comment that was to the effect "stuff gets said about us and we are supposed to take it" which isn't fair to the fanbase. Go ahead and defend your position, but the starting point of your defense shouldn't be a holier-than-thou that we often see from Pyles. I understand they are getting a lot of response/tweets/forum posts, but they go 0 to 60 in generalizing Iowa fans.

True, it isn't. It just so happens we have the largest wrestling fan base in the nation, by far. Anyone with a clue knows this. I assume Flo has gotten a tip about this, but pure speculation on my part.

To be fair, I go on a ton of wrestling web sites and FLO doesn't get 1/10th of the flak they do here on any others - except possibly the dumpster fire known as The Mat.

The title of this article was good.
As for the results I really don't give a s&it no darn awards for this type of stuff.
I just want National Champs and a National team title
I do enjoy all the wrestling that flo provides so thanks for that.

OMG just read some of the conspiracy theories about the 125U on the Iowa boards... #Laughable
