Lockett coming?

I apologize for not understanding the workings of this NIL shit. I thought it had to be arranged by a school you were competing for. Everyone talks about colleges putting the packages together for theses kids, I guess they’re just being the voluntary middle man, but the kids could beat the bushes and do it all on their own. Learn something new every day😄

The school is actually supposed to not be a part of finding the NIL deals.

Not to read TOO much into it because they were former teammates and are still friends, but it was cool to see Lockett in Angelos corner cheering him on in the finals after he finished his own 3rd place match. He was one of the first to give him a congratulatory slap on the back after the W.

Any kind of connection to the Iowa program helps. I see Beric Jordan switched from Oklahoma state to Oklahoma. If they lose Lockett to us, is Smith on the hot seat to retire?

Have to think a succession plan is already in place, and Smith has just a year or two remaining. Coleman Scott left a head coaching gig at a good program to become the OSU Associate Head Coach. Meanwhile, Zach Esposito left the staff after having been there forever. It would make sense there's an understanding among all involved that Scott will take over in the near future.

Figured as much as soon as Coleman got hired. Give him a year in the program to take over recruiting and admin nuts and bolts.

Nope.

John will leave when he wants and there is no succession plan in place. Plus, he’s actually acting like a HC has to now - fundraising, NIL, portal.

It certainly HELPS Coleman that he’s there and on staff, for whenever John does retire. Because even when he “does” - it’s still his program.

Speaking of Beric Jordan, that kid looked amazing in the finals vs DeLuca. Lots of fight in him and was able to match DeLuca’s strength, pace and elite scrambling ability. DeLuca was just a little quicker. Future D-1 finals matchup?

It’s been awhile but Cody Brewer was a lightweight that won a title with the Sooners. Kendric Maple the year before. I wouldn’t have picked Princeton v Purdue either.
Fine… he’s far too limited in his skill set without having some Herculean strength to go with it.

And he didn’t go to okiest because he didn’t believe he could beat spratley- and I don’t see spratley as a finalist.

He lost to DeLuca by a razor thin margin. Do you think DeLuca is overrated?

That’s what I was thinking, but is blaze only a sophomore?? He’s probably an Ohio State lean, no idea where Henkel stands??
I know he finished 5th at Iron Man, but I thought he wrestled great. His consolation semi vs Lockett was a close one that saw him lose 3-1. He was in on a scoring position at the end of the third, but couldn’t finish. His quarter final loss to Birden was even closer, losing in tie breakers. He wrestles a very physical style, appears to be very strong and athletic. Hes got another year to grow and improve, but he looks really solid right now. His weight will be interesting. If he stays a 165lber, he slots in perfectly after Caliendo is gone. If he grows then there is the Ferrari, Arnold logjam for the foreseeable future.
