Luka Talk

When I left for vacation last week Ogundele was having trouble getting back to the states and was not expected to arrive on time...not sure if they have gotten that rectified and am not sure what the quarantine rules would be for him when he does make it back.

He is still in London. Talked with someone close to the staff yesterday. All men's players back but Josh. Also mens players all negative COVID19 tests.

However one manager is positive and a women's player also positive.

As to Garza. Feeling is that he will return this fall.

Going to be interesting as more and more schools are trying to figure out how to handle positive Covid tests.
Does the entire team need to quarantine? Staff?

Yeah, it's complicated. The women's team was together before the test results were known and the positive player had already been in contact with all members of the team (hugs). They are not self quarenteening because it was a "brief" contact. Seems they are more concerned if person has been in close proximity (less than 6 feet) for more than 15 minutes, that will trigger self quarenteening.

And the basketball support staff member that tested positive dates a volleyball player.

And stopping kids this age from getting together and not living life is going to be a huge challenge.

The one concern towards Luka is if there is a feeling there won't be a college basketball season, then he likely will stay in draft and pursue those options (which could include the 2-way G League deals)

Those few days before the deadline are going to be crazy...a lot of guys are going to have to make assumptions and take leaps of faith with all the unknowns out there. I wish they would extend the deadline even further, it's not like if Luka leaves on August 2nd that Fran will be able to fill the roster spot. So what is another month or so?

If 2020 holds to form, I'm not expecting to see Luka back in Iowa City his Fall.

Latest kick in the nuts. Picked up new car in Chicagoland on Tuesday, proceeded to hit deer near Galena on way home with less than 150 miles on the new car :(

You may as well mount the antlers on the hood.

The players are going to need to play it very safe. Stay away from downtown, isolate as much as possible. One thing I thought about while we were digesting the Jack Koerner story is why the heck was he spending the weekend at Lake of the Ozarks? One positive on the team and it could easily become ten or more.

You asked so I will answer on his behalf. He was with his father on a very special, Father/Son weekend with extremely close friends at a private home on a large lake. Going to the grocery store poses a greater covid risk. It wasn’t Woodstock or Lollapalooza. These players are heavily scheduled for 5 years, nearly 24/7.

On occasion, they get an opportunity to do something normal, so they do. Most can never attend family vacations or special occasions. The question was fair, I just want to provide context, which I hope is valued. No offense intended. We are all hawk fans. Go hawks!

With the amount of Iowans injured at Lake of the Ozarks, over the past few years, I'd say it's a fair question, for sure.
Going out on a boat, or JetSki on that place is a lot more dangerous than most recreations.

So it's safe to say the women's player is not one of the players in the practice photo posted in the women's BBall thread?

well just wait for the next testing update from iowa

I was actually kidding, I think he comes back and iowa goes to the final 4

WTH? As long as we're being optimistic, let's go for the Natty! If/when LG comes back, it's the best chance we've had since before Ronnie Lester's knee took a dive!

OH Chad...you blew the Bohannon transfer thing out there for a long time..how did that work out? You see people say many things (players included) that one (meaning you) can decipher how you deem (and/or your groupy friends)… did JBo (with the help of others) think about a transfer??...'sh*t' not many players don't...and it really become news when kin' speak for you (you fell into it).

So let me ask you ..did Luka turn down a pretty lucrative deal from Europe?
Did Frank tell at least 3 NBA teams Luka would go thru the G-League?..

and the big question...did Frank directly tell you this?....or maybe one of your 'staff' groupies?
The Bohannon transfer rumors were backed by Iowa's 247 writer in a podcast.

since you replied...never said he never considered such (what I said was 'many players' in times of frustration, school, girl friends, playing time, playing at a different position, etc, etc) consider a transfer.

Consideration happens 'all the time'...one can spread news of it if they want....but until it happens...its meaningless. How serious any player is considering a transfer can always be debated....young people (even brothers) say a lot of things. Especially on those I'm not happy days.
