Luke Wieskamp & Jack McCaffery, Class of 2025

What do we know about Curtis Stinson from WDM — also on the list?

Tony Roe is the Lead Scout for Prep Hoops Iowa.

He had these observations on June 18:

* 2025 Valley Combo Guard Curtis Stinson Jr.

* Looks like he's about 6-2 or so.

* Able to get to the bucket

* Nice stroke from 3.

* Positions himself well defensively.

* Lots of potential

* Son of former Cyclones PG.

I know when Stinson Sr. showed up to our 30+ pickup game , i sent his first layup to the wall :) He acknowledged a good block, and was decent enough that he didn't feel the need to embarrass me on subsequent possessions, which he obviously could have (and a lot of former pros would have).

He came with a couple other people and i assume one was his son who would have been probably a 6th grader then, but he played well beyond his years. (The kid might have been able to cross me up pretty bad too, but i don't specifically recall it happening).

I may be mistaken but I think the Stinson kid’s mom is Nicki Wieben of Ankeny high school and ISU women’s hoops fame. She had to be 6’4 or so?

Not to be Captain Obvious, but he is Clown U's to lose?
Honestly, I'd be surprised if the that was the case. Stinson has been gone a long time and ISU has had multiple coaches since then. Guessing his link to the program may be a bit broken up.

Did not know that. Would be a real strong genetic combo there

Correction. Stinson had the baby with Jamie Wieben, Nicki's older sister who was a good swimmer. Jamie was not into basketball or good at it like her little sister, Nicki. Jamie is tall and athletic and Nicki married some other dude and was living around Sioux City area last I heard.

check this out & watch:

Looks like Jack gets most of his points on outside shots. His old man needs to get on his ass and make him get to the rim more often (or maybe he does and he isn't scoring much under the basket).

? Did you watch the clip? Outside, inside, stop and pop, a put back in traffic, and even a nice little turnaround hook shot. No dunks - is that what you are looking for from this 9th grader?

Maybe I watched the wrong clips - I saw one put back and about 10 shots from 20-25 feet. The kid is talented. Highlites don't tell the whole story so maybe he is a beast under the basket.

6’8 and good shooting ability out to 25+ ft is a pretty good starter kit for a freshman in high school, imo. You have to think that either he grows to 6’10-11 and you really see him develop that interior game and become a player in the mold of Kriener/Garza, or is done growing but will work to become more explosive and develop that dribble-drive game. It isn’t often that we Hawk fans are following recruits as early on in their careers as we have been, Jack’s. His tapes will probably look a lot different even in a year or two than they do now.

Not sure that he’ll ever become the defender/slasher Patrick is, or the floor general/facilitator Connor is, but I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he becomes regarded amongst Iowa fans as the best of the McCaffery boys when it’s all said and done

Yeah I'd say so !!! If he is 13/14 he'll probably get taller but you never know. And I do agree that a lot of skill development takes place through all 4 years of high school.

This 4 minute clip is from April 20, 2021.

It shows both Jack & Luke Wieskamp, who both are now freshmen in HS.

I think you will see that Jack has a pretty modern game; he can score by driving it and posting up. He has the mid range shot and he can hit the 3.

He looks like a decent rim protector, too.

The way some Iowa fans have treated his two brothers I wouldn’t count our chickens yet if he blows up and blue bloods come calling.
There are a lot more fans that are fine with the McCaffery kids playing. A hell of a lot more. And we have actually gone to the games. A few idiots posting here or on Twitter don't really matter to them.
